Obit Edward Adolph WatsonEdward Adolph Watson, district court judge, stake president, bishop, community servant and devoted family man, completed his earthly life Friday, Nov. 8, 2019, at LDS Hospital. Born June 28, 1936, to Marion “K.T.” and Florence Watson, he lived a humble and meaningful childhood developing a deep devotion to his family, especially his sisters Elaine and Linda, a fascination for the beauty of nature, a love of animals and an appreciation for the community of Grantsville.

“Eddie” often reminisced of Grantsville in the old days, his friends, playing basketball for Grantsville High School, the beautifully decorated junior proms and the delicious burgers, shrimp sandwiches and chocolate shakes at the old Skyline Restaurant.

He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southwest Indian Mission primarily to the Hopi people, where he developed genuine love and respect for his Lamanite brothers and sisters.

Edward obtained a bachelor of arts in history from the University of Utah and soon thereafter followed with a degree of law from the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah. He served his community as the Tooele County Attorney, Third Circuit Court Judge for Tooele County and a district court judge for the State of Utah. During his career and service to his community he earned the nickname “The Judge” as he was fair and equal in the administration of the law, without corruption, favor, greed or prejudice.

He loved serving as first counselor to the stake president in the Grantsville West Stake, bishop of the Grantsville 7th Ward and many years on the high council for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His ancestors were of great importance to him and he loved collecting and preserving genealogy. Serving his fellowmen and responding to the needs of others brought him great happiness.

Edward loved his family and their home. He took great pride in his wife Karen, and their children, Shane, Juli and Alexis. He spent many hours tending to the beauty of their surroundings and enjoyed farming and beautifying the land. He was a great support to his family in all their endeavors and was always ready and willing to help. He took great pleasure in welcoming people to his home and was proud to support the young athletes in Grantsville little league football and baseball as they used “Watson Field” to hold practices and scrimmages. Obit Helen Marie Copley ChristiansenOur dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend was called home to join her husband, parents, and brother Nov. 14, 2019.

Helen was born June 24, 1940, to John B. and Helen Smith Copley in Salt Lake City, Utah. The family welcomed John Stephan Copley on Oct. 17, 1941. Helen and John attended elementary school in Salt Lake City before moving to Tooele, Utah.

Helen’s mother and her mother’s family migrated from Scotland to Salt Lake City, Utah, after joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Helen’s great-grandfather was the gate keeper at the Salt Lake Temple. Grandma Copley always made Scottish shortbread at Christmas. Grandma’s Scottish shortbread recipe became Helen and her family’s favorite recipe and has now become a family Christmas tradition. Helen’s father, John B Copley, was born and raised in Kentucky. He lied about his age and joined the army when he was 16 years old. While stationed in Utah his friends organized a blind date where he met and then married Helen Marie Smith. The family referred to John as Grandpa Copley, and loved to listen to his stories about his family, Kentucky and his fishing trips. Helen was very proud of her heritage, her parents and adored and respected her brother, John Copley. Helen and her sister-in-law, Jane Copley, have worked together for countless hours and many years researching and documenting the Copley and Smith family genealogy.

Helen married Wayne Christiansen on April 5, 1957, in Tooele. After the ceremony Wayne pushed Helen down Main Street in a wheelbarrow. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City temple in 2018. Helen’s own family was small and her relatives were scattered around the country. When she married Wayne she married the whole Christiansen family. She loved the big family parties and family reunions. They started their lives in Tooele, then moved to Grantsville where they raised their family. Helen said that of all the careers and positions that a women could have in this life, the one she wanted the most was to be a mother. Helen and Wayne had six children, Toni (Danny) Dickman, Vicki (Keith) Cordova, Bud Christiansen, Bill (DeAnn) Christiansen, Clint (Kristi) Christiansen, and Amy (Rick) Palmer. The family grew to include 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Helen’s family was the priority in her life. She made every child and grandchild feel like they were her favorite and they knew they were loved. They all love their Grandma Helen. She was always reaching out to her family as well as others to help. She never missed sending birthday or holiday cards to her loved ones. She made sure all the grandkids had a treat for every Valentine’s Day and Halloween.

Helen was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions serving others. Helen retired from Tooele Army Depot and also worked for the Tooele School District and Walmart. She received many awards and recognitions while working during her employment at Tooele Army Depot.

Helen taught unconditional love and forgiveness by the way she lived her life. She was selfless and humble, always putting other’s needs first. Helen was a kind gentle loving spirit and treated everyone she knew with kindness and respect. There are no words to express how much she will be missed by her family and friends.

A viewing will be held Nov. 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 428 S. Hale St., in Grantsville. Interment will follow at the Grantsville Cemetery. Services under the direction of Didericksen Memorial.

He married Margaret Elaine Boswell on Aug. 28, 1948, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 25, 1957. Together they made their home in Tooele, Utah, and raised four children.

As a young boy, he had a natural mechanical talent and displayed a deep interest in automobiles. He overhauled his first automobile engine at nine years old, telling his mother which parts to purchase from the Sears catalog.

In his early teenage years he worked as a miner in the Scranton and Mammoth mines then as a section hand for Union Pacific Railroad. After marrying and moving to Tooele he began working as a mechanic for Fred Davis Garage. His talents and self-taught mechanical skills were noticed, leading him to be one of the first at overhauling an automatic transmission. At the age of 43 he invented a trailing arm suspension system for which he received a patent. He also received an achievement award from the Scientists of America for this invention. Vincent became known by many in Tooele and surrounding areas for his reputation as an honest mechanic and automobile salesman. After 20 years of service in several positions at Bonneville (Ford) Motor Company, and 10 years of service at Tooele County Garage as lead diesel mechanic, he set out to achieve his life-long dream of business ownership. Vincent opened and successfully ran his first business, Jones Automotive in 1988.

In 1999, Vincent and his children purchased Flaming Gorge Lodge. As owner he loved to greet visitors and tell stories, and made many friends along the way. He operated his towing service while there, and often shared his testimony of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with those he helped.

He was an active member and served in many positions for the Church such as Young Men’s counselor, secretary for the Elder’s Quorum Presidency, and president of the Seventy’s Quorum. He had a deep love for the Church and loved to serve daily as a missionary. He leaves us with a legacy of unconditional love and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his children, Linda Rae (DeLoy) Adams, Debra Kae (Bob) Harris and David Lee Jones; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Dale Charles Jones, Gene Lane Jones, and Lynn Jones; two sisters, Beverly Paul and LaRaine Holman.

Lillian worked at various jobs and retired from Litton Industries in Salt Lake City, Utah. In retirement the Spikers traveled extensively from coast-to-coast and enjoyed several motor homes for traveling and camping. They were also actively involved in Tooele Senior Citizens with participation in may dances, dinners, and events held there over more than twenty years.

Lil loved family and spent happy times with her four children, their spouses, her 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She loved to fix huge meals and fill her house to overflowing. Often it was hard to walk through some of the large rooms in the house because the floors were covered with sleeping grandchildren. Every one of the grandkids loved Grandma and she loved them right back.

Lil was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, William Martin, Col. Sidney Martin; sister, Peggy Gladdish; and grandson, Andrew Spiker.

She is survived by her husband, Boyd D. Spiker of Tooele, Utah; daughter, Chere Lynne Spiker of Murray, Utah; sons, Boyd D. Spiker Jr. (Judi) of Tooele, Stephen R. Spiker (Dee) of Carlsbad, California, William L. Spiker (Lynette) of Mesquite, Nevada; ten grandchildren, Shauna Spiker Muller (Charlie) of Madison, Alabama, Brian Spiker (Monica) of Vista, California, Darci Spiker (John Backschies) Calabasas, California, Amy Treadway of Murray, David Garreaud of Salt Lake City, Utah, Tonya Garreaud of Portland, Oregon, Megan Parrinello (Chris) of Hileah, Florida, Kelly Spiker (Roozie) Anaheim Hills, California, Katie Fox (John), Temecula, California, Dr. Ryan Spiker (Elizabeth) of Salt Lake City; 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy is her family and she was proud of it.

Funeral arrangements are through Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main St., Tooele, Utah. There will be a viewing Saturday, Nov. 23, at 11 a.m., service at noon. Interment will follow at Tooele City. All who wish to attend are welcome.

Obit Carmela Angela Gualtieri Robertson DenneyCarmela Angela Gualtieri Robertson Denney (Millie) left her peaceful, quiet life in this world Nov. 23, 2019, of causes incident to old age.

Millie was born in Tooele, Utah, on June 23, 1930, to Emidio and Guissippina Brunetti Gualtieri. Her parents immigrated from Agnone, Italy, in the 1920s. Her father worked at International Smelting and Refining before opening Walter’s Café on Broadway. Millie and her sisters spent their after school hours working in the family restaurant where she met and married Lloyd Robertson. They moved to the San Francisco Bay area until 1962 when they returned to Utah to help Bob and Jemma Johnson run Bob’s Garage in Grantsville. Lloyd later became a long-distance truck driver and after his death in 1972, Millie met Hudson John Denney to whom she was married until his death in 2000. She lived next door to her daughter in Grantsville until Saturday.

She babysat for neighbors, worked in a school lunchroom, and worked at the Skyline Restaurant, Elena’s Café and the Midtown Café. She loved being a florist in Draper but enjoyed bingo, slot machines, crossword, and jigsaw puzzles more in retirement.

Hopefully the entire Gualtieri family, Emidio, Guissippina, Elena, Jemma, Jean, Ilda, Millie and Angelo, are now reunited and enjoying a big spaghetti dinner in heaven. Millie is survived by one son, Dan (Donna) Robertson of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; and one daughter, Cathy (Scott) Williams, Grantsville; nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren also blessed her life.

At Millie’s request, no funeral will be held. Her ashes will be placed in the Gualtieri/Robertson family burial plot at the Tooele City Cemetery. The family extends a special thanks to Sheila Snow, Cindy Valdez, Dr. Sara Carstensen and her hospice nurses for their patient care during the past year.
