Obit Shirley Ann Seely 2Her children embraced her as she was released to His care and a happy reunion with loved ones. Shirley was the heart of the home and the center of the lives of her children and family. She selflessly served her family and others in countless ways. We praise her name and cherish the many happy moments she created for us.

Although she was often in terrible pain, she was an example of courage and determination as she faithfully tended to her family’s needs, worked, and served others. She never let it stop her from loving her family and graciously giving to others.

Shirley graduated from Granite High School and was an excellent student graduating with honors. She also enjoyed participating in school musicals, often sharing stories of singing and dancing with friends. She supported her children in their educational goals and was always there to cheer them on. She loved music and was pleased to marry a music teacher.  Music filled the home due to her encouragement of developing musical talents. She was always supportive of the performances, music, and aspirations of her children and attended numerous plays and performances her children were in. She also supported her husband’s many concerts and parades. Shirley enjoyed singing as well, and always had a good ear for music. She was also a great artist. She loved creating handouts and posters for church callings, drawing house plans, and decorating her home with beautiful things. She loved gardening and always had beautiful flowers surrounding the home.

She enjoyed watching Shirley Temple, Westerns, Doris Day, and classic movies. She was keen on keeping her home clean and had an art for organization.

Though Shirley was primarily a homemaker for most of her life, she spent some years as a front desk supervisor and was responsible for pre-authorizations at the Spanish Fork Clinic. Shirley was also an executive in sales and ran a home business with her husband for a time.

Shirley was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a shining example to her children for her dedication and sweet testimony. She served in several leadership callings including the Relief Society Presidency, Mutual (Young Women’s) Presidency, and Primary Presidency. She developed copious amounts of materials for Primary and Relief Society that she has passed along to her children. She was a very effective teacher in Relief Society and Primary and was always a teacher to her children. She always carried a light about her and exemplified the principles of her faith.

She made everything wonderful with the care and service she gave to her family and delighted her family with her love. Birthdays, Christmas, and Thanksgiving were always magical because of her. She was generous and always giving to others. Shirley was always concerned for the well-being of her loved ones. She was always willing to lend a listening ear and give her advice. She adored her grandchildren and children and always made them feel special. She loved cooking for them and produced the most glorious meals at every gathering.

Shirley always dressed impeccably. She is a beautiful, elegant, cherished, and elect woman. She is an example of endurance and faithfulness to all. The light and warmth of her love will remain with us and can never be dimmed. Her smile and laughter would light up a room. Obit Thelma GollaherThelma passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 84, on Oct. 28, 2019.

She was born June 28, 1935, in Lake Point, Utah, to Brigham Dewey Davies and Thelma Leon Hammond, with her mother passing away shortly after giving birth.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth LeRoy Gollaher. They began their life together in the Salt Lake Temple 67 years ago. She is survived by children, Allen (Elesa), Debra (Mike) Schofield, Kelly (Cathy), John (Stephanie); 17 grandchildren; and 65 great-grandchildren; half sister Janet (Walt) Parker and half-brother Jerry (Linda).

Thelma was born into a family of six brothers and two sisters and was raised by her father and stepmother, Doris Olsen Davies. She was preceded in death by her father; mother; and stepmother; brothers, Howard (Clarine), Farrel (Gloria), Gilbert (surviving wife Jean), Keith (Pat); sister Darlene (Max Welcker); and son, Michael (Clarice).

Thelma’s first love and best friend was her husband. She dearly loved her family especially the grandchildren and her church. She served faithfully many years in many positions, sometimes having four to five callings at the same time for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, one being the pianist at a very tender young age. That love for music led her to increase her talent and she was able to learn the organ from the Tabernacle organist, Roy Darley. She influenced the lives of many people she met whether a friend or stranger. She would strike up a conversation with anyone. She was a great example to all of us throughout our lives by watching her do many acts of unselfish service, showing love and kindness to everyone she met, and by having a strong testimony and love for our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Mother was a darn good cook and homemaker with a flare for making all kinds of candy and goodies, like divinity and panocha pecan rolls, especially at Christmas time. Oh, how she loved Christmas! She enjoyed giving out many gifts to others in secret with the help of her “special elves.” Her children dropped the gifts off while she was the getaway driver hoping not to get caught. What fun we all had!

We express our love and appreciation to the staff, nurses and aides from Rocky Mountain Care and Hospice in Tooele, for their compassionate, loving care they gave to our mother through these difficult years. We appreciate the kindness and love shown to our mother by Canyon Home Care Staff, especially Sharon.

A viewing will be held Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, from 6 to 8 p.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1366 E. Canyon Road, Lake Point, Utah. Service will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019, at 11 a.m., with a prior visitation being held from 10 to 10:45 a.m., at the same church building. Interment will be at the Lake Point Cemetery.

Obit John J. Yasenko IIIOn May 9, 1987, Johnny’s voice was heard loud and clear as he entered this world (which never changed!).

Jen, Johnny’s birthmother, had faith and chose life. Selflessly carrying Johnny, Jen chose adoption when he was born. Jen said because of the circumstances of her pregnancy, she knew that Johnny was meant to be. Later in life, Johnny would often say, “I’m just glad to be alive!”

Johnny was later joined by brother, Jared, and sister, Jessie. Growing up, the three J’s became a whole entity and a force to be reckoned with when they chose to work together. They continued to be close friends and supported each other.

Johnny attended Tooele, Utah, grade and junior high schools and Hannibal Missouri High School. He graduated from Western Illinois University with a degree in science. He had a voracious appetite for learning and was a life-long learner. He enjoyed sharing and debating his opinion on everything!

Johnny’s love of the outdoors led him to work with the Boy Scouts of America. There he impacted many young lives by teaching respect, love, and enjoyment of this amazing world. Johnny then moved to Denver and worked for Nationwide Insurance. Colorado ended up being an ideal place for Johnny to continue to explore the outdoors he cared so much for. He camped, climbed, hiked, golfed, snorkeled and skied. Alpine skiing became a passion which he excelled at after his first ski lesson with Jessie in 2017. For the last two years, he skied almost every weekend of the ski season.

Johnny also had a beautiful, God-given singing voice, wrote his own music, and was self taught and very talented on the guitar.

Johnny worked so he could live. His fantastic amounts of energy, endurance, and ambition helped him excel in everything he did.

He had a personality that was loving, caring, and bigger than life. He brought laughter with him wherever he went and he was his own unique person. Johnny lived life to the fullest and he always moved through the challenges in his life, refusing to get stuck.

Johnny left this world Oct. 3, 2019. Johnny leaves behind fiancee, Maria Renee Banquet Fuentes; parents, John Yasenko and Ann Chase Yasenko,; brother and sister, Jared and Jessie; and too many friends and family members to mention. He is and always will be sorely missed.

Obit Dennis Lee Cunningham 1Dennis Lee Cunningham slipped away quietly from this life in Bodfish, California, during the early morning hours of Nov. 1, 2019, at the age of 77. Obit Dennis Lee Cunningham 2While he will be missed, there is a joyous reunion awaiting. Obit Dennis Lee Cunningham 3Dennis was born at home July 31, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Delmar David and Ella Rebecca Fisher Cunningham. He was the third of seven children. He had an adventurous spirit, quick wit, joyous laugh and a beautiful smile that warmed our hearts.

Dennis was a loving son and brother who enjoyed taking his siblings on many adventures. The family moved from Utah to California for work where his father was drafted into World War II, and his mama went to work for Howard Hughes Airlines as a riveter. The family grew and when work was available, they returned to Utah. Dad loved California, especially Kern County, and the beach cities like Redondo. He spoke of it often, followed his heart, returned to Kern County and said he was home.

He served in the Navy, was discharged and returned to Utah where he married Rosalie Kae Wrathall on Feb. 24, 1963, later divorced. Daughter, Candace Lee Cunningham (Candy), was born Sept. 13, 1963. He married Lana Faye Cook on Sept. 24, 1976, later divorced. Daughter, Mollie Mevonne, was born Sept. 8, 1977.

Dennis loved music, fast cars, family, friends, dogs, coffee, cake, ice cream, chocolate, vegetables, seafood, birthdays, Christmas, sunshine, and being outdoors. He found a love of driving big trucks and traveled coast to coast in all 48 states for 45 years. He was very talented, loved working with his hands, would take on projects, and could build or fix anything. He was giving and gracious. A unique soul with a charismatic smile, warm laugh and infectious personality.

Dad instilled a love of music and how to do the twist. He taught us to keep secrets (Don’t tell your mother), and how to defend ourselves (Get a bigger stick). Dad loved to nurse a skinned knee with mercurochrome, and treat colds with warm Jello and Vaporub. He taught us to be confident, humble, thankful and productive.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, sister Renee Annette, and daughter Mollie Mevonne. He is survived by five brothers and sisters: Delmar David Jr. (Ruth), Yvonne Cecile, Tona Marie, Cynthia (Nelson), and Bruce Fawn (Sarah); daughter Candy; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to brother Bruce who gently cared for him in his final days. We are forever grateful for the love and care given during this difficult time.

A memorial will be held Nov. 16, 2019, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Eagles Hall, 50 S. 1st St., Tooele, Utah. Please join us to honor Dennis and share your memories.

Obit Irene Dolores Lancaster CarreauIrene Dolores Lancaster Carreau passed away Nov. 4, 2019 in Cottonwood, Arizona. Irene was born in Elma, Washington, on Oct. 19, 1929 to Fred and Anna Lancaster. She had two brothers, Les and Frank.

Irene attended schools in Bremerton and Puyallup, Washington. She graduated from Puyallup High School in 1948. She was employed by Hunt Foods, Inc. in Puyallup and then St. Regis Pulp and Paper Company in Tacoma as an executive secretary.

Irene was married to Thomas J. Carreau at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Tacoma on June 30, 1956. She left employment to be a stay-at-home mom one month before her first son, Lawrence Wayne (wife Ruby), was born in 1956. Her second son, James Bradley (wife Cheryl and son John), was also born in Tacoma in 1958.

In April of 1962 Tom’s employer, the US government, transferred him to the Tooele Army Depot from the Fort Lewis Depot in Tacoma. Irene and the family moved to Tooele, Utah, in July 1962. Irene’s third and fourth sons, Anthony Lloyd (wife Liz whom passed in 2008, daughter Amanda, and son David) in 1966, and Timothy John (wife Gadir) in 1968, were both born in Tooele.

After her youngest son turned 16, Irene returned to employment; first with H&A Bike Shop, and then with the Tooele Army Depot in the training and development program. She later transferred to the motor pool until the depot closed in the early 1990s, when she then retired.

Irene was a Scout den mother for many years in the 1970s and 80s in Tooele while her four boys were active in the Pack 604 Cub Scouts. She will be remembered by many scouts for her examples of kindness, respect, and integrity which she taught throughout her time as a den mother in Tooele.

Irene and Tom enjoyed a long retirement together and they were married for 57 years before Tom passed away in 2013. She then sold her home of 52 years in Tooele and moved to Venice, Florida, with her son Tim and his wife. She then moved to Arizona to her son Larry’s home in Cottonwood until her passing.

Irene will be remembered for her loving, kind, compassionate, and always happy personality. She carried out that sort of integrity graciously throughout her lifetime, and always brought out the best in everyone near to her, no matter who it was. That was her gift.

In respect for her wishes, there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, the family simply asks of everyone to extend genuine kindness to all of those around them. That is what she would have wanted, for that is who our mom, Irene Dolores Lancaster Carreau, was.
