Obit Elizabeth Ellen Smith SampsonElizabeth Ellen Smith Sampson was born Aug. 4, 1946, in Ogden, Utah. She passed away Sept. 27, 2015, in Stockton, Utah. Ellen was the fifth child of Raymond and Elizabeth Smith’s nine children. When her older sister, Sally, moved out of the home, Ellen was the sole daughter in a home with six brothers. She was thrilled when her baby sister Janine was born, despite their 15-year age difference. Ellen married Floyd Leroy Sampson in Chula Vista, California, on March 7, 1970, and was later sealed to him in the St. George Temple in 1972. She said of her true love, Leroy, that she never felt happier than the day she married him. Leroy worked at a mine in Eagle Mountain, California, as they began raising their family. Shortly after their fourth child was born they moved to Mesa, Arizona, where Ellen was a homemaker. In 1989, they moved their family to Portland, Oregon, where Ellen and Leroy stayed until 2007. They have lived in Stockton, Utah, since 2007. All loved Ellen. She was always willing to serve, whether it was to bring a meal or sew up a dress. She showed her great love for her Heavenly Father through her joy of teaching His Gospel.  Ellen was able to combine her love of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and her love of service in serving a mission with her husband at the Salt Lake City Conference Center as a tour guide. Ellen’s greatest joys in life were her four children and 11 grandchildren. She spent countless hours sewing for all of them. Most remarkable is that she made each of her daughters’ and daughter-in-laws’ wedding dresses. Her children feel honored to call her mother and her grandchildren know they were blessed with the greatest “Little Grandma” ever. We love her. We are who we are because of her devotion and faith. Ellen is survived by her husband Leroy; her four children, David Sampson (Tiffany), Kevin Sampson (Jennifer), Kristi Rosengreen (Carl) and Katie Steed (Marc); and 11 grandchildren: Raelynn, Sydney, Austin, Jaemynn, Kylie, Hailey, Melia, Braden, Lucy, David and Vivian.

Services by Tate Mortuary on Friday, Oct. 2, at the Stockton LDS Chapel, 405 N. Connor, in Stockton, Utah. Viewing from 9:30-10:30 a.m.; funeral services at 11 a.m.

Obit Velma Udeen Welte WolterMarch 8, 1917-Sept. 25, 2015. Our beautiful beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend left us for another journey at the young age of 98. Velma was a strong, determined, ambitious, feisty woman who loved gardening, traveling, anything to do with the outdoors — she was up for any type of adventure. We will treasure our moments with Velma. She was truly one of a kind. We will miss that little twinkle that used to light up your eyes. And we will miss the sound of your voice, your laughter and your sighs. Don’t worry about mourning me, I was never easy to offend. Feel free to share a story at my expense and we’ll have a good laugh in the end. Love, your family.

To Velma from Carson — You were so intelligent, awesome and funny! I will miss you because you were the most lovable person in the world! I wish you were here, but you’re in a better place now and with Grandpa Chet. Love, Carson.

When You Remember

I hope that when you remember Velma you don’t think of her this way.

Instead remember the good times you had or the funny things she’d say.

Remember her in springtime, how she loved the fragrant breeze.

Remember her in the summer as the sunshine kissed her cheeks.

Remember her in autumn, how she loved the turning leaves.

Remember her in winter watching snowflakes drift in the breeze.

But although Velma surely loved these things remember she loved you all more.

And don’t lose heart because we’ll see her again when we all reach that distant shore.

*In lieu of flowers hug your parents, grandparents, or give them a call daily.

Don W. Froscheiser

Obit Don W. FroscheiserHeaven’s gates opened wide for one of Tooele’s oldest and finest community members, Don W. Froscheiser. He passed away at home surrounded by loved ones, “where he really wanted to be,” on Oct. 2, 2015. Don was born Dec. 3, 1926, to David and Minnie (Siebenacher) Froscheiser, raised on a country farm in Hebron, Nebraska. This is where he learned the value of putting in a long full day of hard work and the mastery to repair everything. After graduating high school Don pulled up his roots and moved to be with his sister and brother-in-law Ken and Ray DuBois in Tooele, Utah. Don was selected to go into the services. After testing to go into the U.S. Air Force with exceptionally high scores the United States Army convinced him to join them. He was the first person in Tooele to be drafted into WWII. This is where Don learned skills that would set him apart in future positions. Following deployment in the Army, he spent time as a Merchant Marine working on boat engines. After military service, Don went to work for Western Chemical Center in Tooele where he met his future bride, Gladys Carl. Don and Glad married June 20, 1953. He began raising his family with son Kim, born April 2, 1956, (deceased Sept. 12, 1970) and son, Kary, born June 5, 1958. He went to work as Director of Manpower at Tooele Army Depot, where he served until his retirement in 1988. Don retired young to enjoy his real passion, restoration of classic cars. T-birds where his specialty; many of them have been seen in various parades and even on TV shows and movies along with Don. He loved to gather together with friends and friends of friends, all drinks were bottomless. Known as the Martini Man, Don swears by the fact that he invented the “Dirty Martini”; the deer hunting party was his favorite. He opened his house and pool to all, friends and neighbors where everyone enjoyed the golden delicious apples from his old apple tree. Many Tooele folks might have known Don by his supporting role in the community, working with the credit union, being Birch’s Pharmacy’s personal bouncer, directing the traffic flow after the Demolition Derby at Deseret Peak Complex, and winning concert tickets for being the oldest person attending the derby. Friends and family may call at Tate Mortuary, Friday Oct. 9 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Mountain of Faith Lutheran Church, 560 S. Main St., Tooele, Utah. Don will be laid to rest at the Tooele Cemetery, next to his wife Glad and oldest son Kim, surrounded by extended family members.

Obit Julian ManzanaresJulian F. Manzanares, age 77, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a rare brain disorder. Julian was born Oct. 17, 1937, to Solomon and Lupita Manzanares in Blanco, New Mexico. He married the love of his life, Karen Bolinder, in 1957 in Tooele, Utah. After retirement, he worked as a campground host and also a school crossing guard for the Grantsville city schools. He didn’t know the word “retirement.” His greatest love was spending time with family, in his garden and being involved with his grandchildren. He loved Westerns — not a movie he couldn’t quote. He had a quick wit and was beloved by all who knew him. He deeply cared about the children in his care as a school crossing guard, purchasing coats and gloves for those in need. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Harmony Hospice staff who lovingly cared for our father. Obit Kenai Taylor-RamirezMamma’s little angel — Kenai Taylor-Ramirez has returned to heaven to join his grandma, Jodie, to play and watch over his family. He was the strongest little boy who fought long and hard, but his little body could not take any more. This little miracle was the highlight of his family’s life. Everyone who had the chance to meet him automatically fell in love with him. Kenai has the happiest, outgoing and cheerful personality you could ever see in a child. He is a very strong, stubborn, courageous, and very brave little boy who would not give up easily. He was his mommy’s little sunshine and every ounce of pride she has is in this little boy. “It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone. A part of me went with you; the day God took you home. If tears could build a stairway, and heartaches make a lane, I would walk my way to heaven, and bring you back again.  In life I loved you so dearly. In death I will love you still. In my heart you hold a place no one could ever fill.” Kenai is so much loved. He is survived by his loving mother Kelsey Taylor, uncles Brandon and Brayden, aunt Kristen, grandparents Rob and Andrea Taylor, father Reo Ramirez, aunts Teresa, Tianna and Monica, uncle Michael, grandma Irene and grandpa Snow, as well as many other great grandparents, cousins, great-aunts and uncles. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Jodie Baker, great-grandmother Dolly Taylor and great-grandfather Ronald Taylor Sr.

Until we meet again, little dude. Rest in peace.
