Obit Robert T. Barrett and Betty BarrettRobert T. Barrett, 82, of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away on May 9, 2014 in Tooele, Utah, with his loving family by his side. His loving wife of 63 years, Betty, joined him for eternity on June 27, 2015. In anticipation of this time, Betty prepared these words: “So, you DID come to this gathering! We all had different kinds of fun, along with problems that we worked out to my satisfaction. So, remember how we did that so that I will always win in the end! Now, you’re all supposed to laugh … knowing that I love you all very much. Now, enjoy the rest of the day and tell happy stories to each other. I will miss you all and look forward to seeing you all again someday. Love, Nana, Bami, Mom, ditzy Betty.” In an effort to prevent her from getting the last word in: We will miss your antics, your snide remarks, your “I love you more’s” and your sticking your tongue out at us — most of all, your hugs and unconditional love, not to mention your one-finger salutes. To Grandpa/Dad — even though your mind was slowly stolen from you by the cruel Alzheimer’s, you never forgot any of your family and you could always pull off a great joke. We will continue to miss your loving smile, sound advice, the “I love you kid” and “are you still my girl?”, those strong hands and your loving eyes. A very special thanks to Dr. Trude and those crazy, caring ladies from Canyon Home Health Care and Hospice: Barbara Herrera, Ellen Rojas and Cherylynn Miller, aka “Cinderella.” Ladies, we truly could not have made it without you. You made both Mom and Dad smile and laugh. A simple thanks will never be enough. Mom and Dad, never forget that “we love you more.” Mom and Dad are survived by their four daughters, Becky Bracken (Dean), Brenda McClain (Brad), Sherry Kimes (Bouie) and Pam Woods; their grandchildren, Bobby and Cathy Hammond and their daughters Megan and Emily, Timmy Hammond and his son Ozzy, Dawn and Cal Yates and their children Brady, Maddi and Charli, Lesley and Craig Walker and their children Amanda and Tyler, Lindsay Barnett and her children Jacob and Maddie, and Ben Barnet, Forrest and Lesley Kimes and their children and Bradley Kimes, Angela and Eric Cooley and their children, and Kenna, Douglas, Logan and Sean Woods. Mom and Dad both chose to be cremated and their family will be returning them to Iowa to be buried in Hillside Cemetery in Cedar Falls.

Angela Lea Buchanan

Obit Angela Lea BuchananAngela Lea Buchanan passed away in the early morning of June 30, 2015 at her home in Grantsville where she lived with her husband Donald and her sister Stephanie. While she had been ill for many years, her death was unexpected. She had overcome many setbacks and her loved ones assumed her immortality. Such is the illusion of earthly life. In addition to Donald and Stephanie, Angela is survived by daughters Cortney, Lauren and Katie. Each daughter has a child — Etta, Ewan and Gabe, respectively. She loved them all desperately and without bounds. Angela was born on Feb. 25, 1965 in Vernon, Texas. Life’s flow took her to many other places but Texas was her heritage. Texas politicians were beneath her contempt. She idolized Molly Ivins and Ann Richards. She left the state only after Houston’s humidity and pollution made her life unbearable. Angela’s sympathies were with those who receive less than they deserve. On these she bestowed the gifts of her attention, her entertainment and her art. She created beauty with abandon and without any regard to practical consequences. She sought attention relentlessly but for a noble purpose. She reflected her light on unnoticed objects of beauty and individuals of rare and unappreciated quality.

She did not abide by religion or science. She thought that when we die, we remain in the Universe in the form of some kind of imperceptible energy. Those of us who loved her pray that her intuition was correct.

Jack Lewis

Obit Jack LewisJack Lewis was born Oct. 1, 1929, to John and Mollie (nee Jones) Lewis in Malad City, Idaho. The sixth of seven children, Jack followed in the athletic footsteps of his older brothers and played football, baseball and basketball in high school. He also excelled in academics and served as president of the 1947 Malad High Senior Class. He married Donna Waldron on Nov.17, 1950, and thus began a beautiful partnership. A “Jack-of-all-trades” and master of many, Jack worked hard his entire life. He grew up doing farming/ranching work and continued that after purchasing his father’s land — giving John a life estate, which allowed him to spend all but the last year of his life in that home. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Jack delivered milk for Cream O’Weber in Dugway, Tooele and Salt Lake. He went the extra mile for those in remote areas such as Dugway and delivered many other things (donuts, birthday cakes, and once, even a strapless bra). Upon retiring, he turned his attention to welding — making metal art out of bits and pieces of old machinery. One of Jack’s goals was to see the United States and together he and Donna visited 49 of the 50 states and the capital cities. They shared these cross-country trips, as well as many other camping, waterskiing, snowmobiling and sight-seeing vacations, with their children and their siblings. They were always ready to go and ready to share the adventure. Jack visited the 50th state (Hawaii) the year after Donna’s death (January 2009). Throughout his life, Jack shared his zest for life; the joys of vacation; his love of reading; and his excellent work ethic (don’t just do your best, do the extra to help your fellow man) with those around him. He always put Donna first, his children next, then his family and friends. If he thought of himself, it was last. Surviving family members include his children, Jackie (Bill), Marlene, Kyle, Blane (Brenda) and Bonnie; his grandchildren, Aimee (Paul), Brian (Akiko), Kristin (Daniel), Denise, Michael, Timothy (Sarah), Gregory, Travis, Allix and Nicole; his great-grandchildren, Xevan, Akari, Abbeigh and Kelden; Noble and Aisa and his brother Barney. He was predeceased by his sister Nada and his brothers Lionel, Marlo, Dean, and Ray. Condolences may be sent to www.garnerfuneral.com. Funeral Directors: Garner Funeral Home.
