Obit Jeanne Williams Brooks AndersonJeanne Williams Brooks Anderson died June 4 at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. She was born March 16, 1928 to Kimball Williams and Trena Nielson Williams in Cortez, Colorado. Her ancestral family arrived in Utah with the Willy Handcart Company. Her great-grandfather, Jens Nielson, is known as the founder of several communities including Cedar City and Bluff, Utah, as part of the Hole-in-the-Rock expedition. Every summer on the last day of school, Jeanne rode the Lyman Freight Truck from Grand Junction to Blanding where she caught the U.S. mail truck to Bluff to spend the summer with her grandparents, Freeman and Margaret Nielson. Growing up in the depression era, Jeanne learned to value and love gardening and later in her adult life had truly splendid gardens in Bluff. She had a natural curiosity, loved archaeology and geology, no doubt influenced by the beautiful natural surroundings of southeastern Utah. She graduated from high school in Grand Junction, Colorado and attended Mesa College. Her marriage to George Brooks in 1946 produced four children: Cynthia, Katheryn, Patrick and Michael. Married to Boyd Anderson in 1958 (until his death in 2000), after which her youngest son Alan was born. Jeanne was wholly dedicated to San Juan County and worked on behalf of the community to develop the Sand Island picnic area and negotiated with an oil company to sell their foot bridgem also known as the Swinging Bridge, for $1 to the Navajo Nation, making travel more convenient for tribal members. Truly of pioneer stock, Jeanne was an industrious worker in addition to her philanthropy. In the late 1950s she worked at the family business, the Twin Rocks Trading Post, in Bluff. She also worked in several physician and dental offices throughout the years and for Delta Plan Insurance. She retired from Educators Mutual Association in Salt Lake City in 1993. Her survivors include her children, Cynthia Schneider of Puyallup, Washington; Kaye (Randy) Stambaugh of San Diego, California; Patrick Brooks (Julie) of San Diego, California; Michael Brooks (Valerie) of Ketchikan, Alaska; and Alan Anderson of Tooele, 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Her only brother, Neil Williams and her husband, Boyd Anderson preceded Jeanne in death. At her request no formal services will be held. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Adopt-A-Native Elder, a charity supporting elderly traditional Navajo weavers.

Obit Sharon Colleen Gundersen LarsenHeaven got a little brighter today as our beautiful angel left this world. We lost the beauty of her smile, the warmth of her friendship, the sound of her laughter, the artistry of her hairstyles and the beautiful fragrance of her flower gardens. Her beautiful voice has now joined Heaven’s choir. She has always been a friend to the friendless, a listening ear to the discouraged and downhearted. No one loved little children and babies more than Sherry. To those who didn’t know Sherry before her disease, you missed one of Earth’s greatest ladies! She was a beautiful wife, a devoted mother and a dedicated sister and friend. Yes, Heaven got a little brighter while our world grieves her loss. Sharon Colleen Gundersen Larsen was born Sept. 9, 1943 to Grant and Marjie Gundersen. Sherry grew up in Holladay, Utah, graduating from Olympus High School. While she was attending Continental Beauty College, she met the love of her life, Earl, at a church dance. They were married on September 14, 1962 in the Manti Temple. They moved to Grantsville in 1964 and have lived there ever since. Sherry worked out of her home as a beautician for many years, making many lifetime friends. Sherry loved music. She sang with her sisters on many programs, including many Old Folks Sociable’s and funerals. She also loved to play the accordion. Sherry was a woman of great faith. She was very active in the LDS Church, serving in many ward and stake positions. After Earl retired, they served a mission in the West Indies where they were able to serve the young missionaries and the special people of Guyana. Sherry was preceded in death by her mother, Marjie Calvert Gundersen. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Earl Larsen; her children Becky (Robert), Julie (Steve), Connie (Doug), Gary (Tiffany), Michael (Gina), Michelle (Justin), John (Brooke) and Laurie (Cody); her 32 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren — the joy of her life! Duane John Sundloff

Obit Duane John SundloffOn a beautiful summer day, Dad left his home, surrounded by his family, to go join his “bride” Lucretia Ann Sundloff “Cre”, our mom, on the other side. Duane John Sundloff was born March 3, 1935 to John T. Sundloff and Leone E. Sundloff. Duane was their only son and youngest brother to his sister Melve. We know our dad has just had a HUGE awakening on the other side as we’re sure he was greeted with love by his wife Cre (our mom), his mother, father, sister, mother and father-in-law (Okey K. and Olleva Davis) and brothers and sisters-in-law. Duane was always proud of his “Sundloff” and “Kelley” Ibapah legacy and history. On Dec. 8, 1951, he took Lucretia Ann Davis “Cre” as his wife. For more than 61 years, they built a wonderful life that revolved around family. Together they were blessed with five children, Claudia Ann Collett (Douglas), D. John Sundloff (Joy), Thomas K. Sundloff (Meladie), Stephen K. Sundloff (Cidnie) and Laura Peay Greene (John). Family was the core of everything to our parents. From these five children, they had 15 grandkids and to date 40 great-grandchildren. Dad was so proud of his legacy. Dad enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, boating and all sports activities. He started his own automotive shop and was self-employed for more than 40 years. Dad and mom enjoyed their later years during the winter at their home in Hurricane, Utah. Our dad was “one of a kind!” Our dad built a strong legacy of family based on togetherness. We’re so glad to call him dad, grandpa, grandpa-great, Uncle Du, and friend. He was preceded in death by both parents, his wife Lucretia (Cre), his sister Melve Bublitz Ricks, his father and mother-in-law, his sisters and brothers-in-laws Art Jarl, Harry Sneed and Richard and Della Mae Horak. We know dad would never have even made it this long without the extra support from his grandson Lance Sundloff and his wife Sierra, who became Dad’s full-time caretakers. At times, it required EXTRAORDINARY CARE. We also express our sincere gratitude to the staff at CareSource. Their loving and skilled staff in the last several months who came daily to Dad’s house to assist. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2015 at the LDS Stake Center, 2675 E. 4430 South, SLC, where visitations will be held on Thursday, June 18 from 6-8 p.m. and on Friday, June 19, 2015 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Messages to family can be posted at www.HolbrookMortuary.com.

Obit Afton Maland WarburtonAfton Maland Warburton, 83 years young, sweetly passed from this earth Saturday, June 13, 2015, at her home in Grantsville, Utah. She will be greatly missed by those who lived at “the compound” and those who lived away from here also. She was born Nov. 14, 1931 in Lake Shore, Utah, to William H. and Zina Maland. Being the youngest child, she was used to getting all the attention she wanted. She had two brothers, Earl and Reed, and two sisters, Norma and Sarah, all who have preceded her in death. She married her sweetheart, Jerry H. Warburton, on Feb. 24, 1951 in Elko, Nevada. They spent all the time they could together, hunting, fishing and exploring the Utah West Desert until he passed away on Nov. 24, 1986. They were sealed together for time and all eternity on Sept. 1, 2012 in the Salt Lake Temple. She spent five months traveling around Alaska but returned to the desert, living in Grantsville during the summer and Quartzsite, Arizona, in the winter. She will be deeply missed by her Quartzsite friends and all the fun times they had together. She is survived by her three children, Rebecca (Lynn) Taylor, Grantsville; David (Annette) Warburton, Grantsville; and Jeff (Louise) Warburton, LaPoint, Utah. She has made hundreds of quilts, selling some and giving most away. We love her but know her life on earth is finished and she has a great work to do on the other side of the veil. We love you Mom, Grandma, sister, aunt and friend. A viewing will be held Thursday, June 18 from 11 a.m.-noon at the Grantsville 9th Ward, 415 West Apple, Grantsville. Obit Tom DowellTom Dowell unexpectedly passed away on June 13, 2015. He was born in Burley, Idaho on February 18, 1963 to Thomas and Eva Dowell. In 1982, he married his true love and sweetheart, Angela Jolley. They were married for 33 years, residing in Burley, Idaho, until they moved to Grantsville, Utah, in 2003. While in Idaho, Tom worked for Circle D Farms for 19 years before accepting a job with Quality Automotive Group (which recently changed to Performance Auto), where he has worked as the recon manager for the past 12 years. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent as much time as he could hunting, fishing and camping. He may have been “The World’s Greatest Camp Chef.” He also enjoyed cars, trucks and anything that had four wheels and an engine. Working was something that he never shied away from; he was such a hard worker. When he wasn’t working at his full-time job, he loved to be working on his “projects” or helping others with their “projects.” Tom had such an amazing talent for fixing anything. He was best described with words such as kind, gentle, unselfish, loving and genuine. He was known as the quiet man with the “biggest heart” who would “do anything” for anybody. Of all the things that he loved and enjoyed, Tom’s greatest love in life was spending time with his family and his best friend and sidekick Mylee. He is survived by his wife Angela Dowell, son Tommy Dowell, daughter Angie (Rick) Nay, parents Thomas and Eva Dowell, sister Nora (Blaise) Kent, brother Virgil (Kathy) Dowell and brother Lloyd (Anna) Dowell. There will be a celebration of his life for all friends and family on June 27, 2015 from 5-9 p.m. at 707 Deer Hollow in Tooele, Utah. Tom’s wish was to be a donor, once again helping others.
