Obit Ruth Bates WeylandRuth Bates Weyland, an elegant, creative, and funny woman, passed away May 28, 2023, at the age of 94. Born March 5, 1929, in Grantsville, Utah, Ruth grew up in Ibapah, Utah, and later lived in Tooele, Utah, for most of her adult life. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who cherished her family.

Ruth was a successful business owner who operated the Fashion Crossroads clothing store in Tooele for many years. She was an avid reader and writer who enjoyed writing poetry and authored a book about her life called Water Under the Bridge. Ruth enjoyed travel and was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Salt Lake City Temple for a number of years.

Ruth is survived by her sisters Louise Cook and Eva Trimble; her children Maureen Johnston, Richard (Heidi) Weyland, and Tina Weyland; her grandchildren Mindy, Adrienne, Dane, Lindsay, Tanner, Benjamin, Hannah, Samuel, and Joseph; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Harlo Bates and Mable Hall; and her siblings Daisy Symonds, Betty Cook, Lenard Bates, and Arnold Bates. 

A viewing will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 9 a.m., at Skyline Ward Chapel, 777 E. Skyline Dr., Tooele, Utah, followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m., also at Skyline Ward Chapel. Ruth will be laid to rest in a graveside service at 3:30 p.m. in Ibapah, Utah. The funeral service will be live-streamed at my.gather.app/remember/ruth-weyland.
