Joe E Gutierrez was born Aug. 23, 1936, in Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico, to Alfonso Gutierrez and Lorencita Mondragon. He passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, in American Fork, Utah.
We have lost our loved one but now he is with God and the Angels in Heaven.
Joe married his high school sweetheart Fabiola Cordova and together they raised their five children Harold Gutierrez (Pamela), Bob Gutierrez (Tawna), Joe Gutierrez (Shelly), Joann Shubert, and Novella Gutierrez. Joe was very proud of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Susanna Valerio and Eleanor Jaramillo. Family was very important to Joe and he loved his family very much.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved grandson Justin Shubert; his brothers Benjamin Martinez, Jake Martinez, Benito Gutierrez; and his sister Rachel Trujillo.
Joe worked 30 years at the Tooele Army Depot. He served in the National Guard and also owned his own business. Upon his retirement, he started a cattle ranch which kept him busy for the next 20 years. In his free time, he took pride in coaching Junior Jazz basketball. Joe was also an avid fisherman who enjoyed camping and hunting. Joe enjoyed traveling all over the western United States, returning to his childhood home in New Mexico and visiting with family and friends.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 9, 2023, at St. Marguerite Catholic Church in Tooele, Utah. Mass will begin promptly at 11 a.m. with graveside service at the Tooele City Cemetery to follow. Pallbearers Harold Gutierrez, Bob Gutierrez, Joe Gutierrez, Ben Gutierrez, Dusty Gutierrez, and Tristan Cholico.
