Obit Carole Elkington Peterson2/18/42 – 3/22/20

On the morning of Sunday, March 22, 2020, our loving momma, grandma, and great-grandma returned home to be with her sweetheart John Alton Peterson and the many family members who preceded her. After battling Alzheimer’s for several years, she is now free from the disease that held her captive in her last days.

Carole was born Feb. 18, 1942, in Grantsville, Utah, to Lynn J. Elkington and Georgia Hammond Elkington. Carole grew up in Grantsville and attended Grantsville High School where she participated in many extracurricular activities.

After graduating high school, she attended LDS Business College and Utah State University, where she met her sweetheart John Alton Peterson. They were married in September, 1963, and sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple the following year. Prior to John’s passing in March 2017, they celebrated 54 years of marriage.

Carole was a pillar of the community. She was brilliant. She was employed by the State of Utah for 30 years where she served as the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives for most of her tenure, while serving on many national legislative committees. She was a member and past president of ASLCS  (American Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries), the Mason’s Manual Commission, where she was instrumental in helping rewrite Mason’s manual rules and procedures for Legislative rules and process, and NCSL (National Conference of State Legislatures). Her international counterparts recognized her when she organized an international committee called ANOMAC, (Association of National and International Major Officials of Mexico and Federal Districts).

As a working mother she always balanced her career and family duties in a manner that was unmatched. Carole always made time for her children and grandchildren. She served as a home mother at the elementary school and a den leader in the Cub Scouts. She was a baseball coach for teen young men, where she was respected and loved by the players and coaches in the league. Her baseball boys still call her “Coach” to this day! Carole and her sweetheart John rarely missed any sporting events, recitals, or extra-curricular activities of their children and grandchildren. She would sometimes attend three or four events in a day, loving every minute of it. She loved attending Utah football games with her family, home or away, and would throw up her “U” to rally the crowd. She was the life-blood of every party, as her smile and enthusiasm filled every room she entered.

Carole was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many capacities throughout her life. Most of her loving acts of charity were done outside her church callings. She was loving, compassionate, caring, generous, and accepting. She delivered countless boxes of groceries and envelopes of cash to homes where she knew it was needed. She was always thinking of others who were less fortunate. She was an example of true discipleship and never expected accolades for her generosity.

Her husband John Alton Peterson, her parents, Lynn J. and Georgia H. Elkington, her two brothers Verle Lynn and James Wesley, and many other relatives preceded Carole in death.

She is survived by her son Phillip John Peterson (Sherron), their children PJ (Kailee) with children Connor and Noel, Brennen (Danna), Mikaela (fiancé Nick Trythall), and Nathan; son David James Peterson (Christine), their children Kylee (Alyssa) and Alexa Olsen (Isaac); daughter Jan Dawson (Steven), their children Taylor (Madisen) with daughter Lucy, Spencer (Kylie), Paige and Maren.

The family is extremely grateful for the staff and residents of Whisper Cove Assisted Living in Kaysville for loving her while family members could not be with her. We would like to thank nurse Cassidee and the Dan Van Cott family for their love and compassion they showed to Momma as the Alzheimer’s progressed. We would also like to thank her best friend Helen Kaye for her lifelong friendship. Helen Kaye exemplifies what true friendship really means.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 28, 2020, in Grantsville, Utah, where Carole will be placed to rest next to her husband and many family members. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.

As a result of restrictions related to Covid-19, we are unable to have a traditional funeral service. Although family and friends can pay respects, social distancing will be honored and visitors will be limited to 10 at a time. Again, family and friends are welcome to pay respects while honoring social distancing restrictions. A celebration of life, in her honor, will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to an Alzheimer’s foundation of your choice. Condolences may be shared at: www.lindquistmortuary.com.

Andee Joy Duncan

Obit Andee Joy DuncanAndee Joy Duncan passed away due to medical complications brought on by blood clots in Logan, Utah, on March 26, 2020, at 41 years of age.

Andee was born Jan. 8, 1979, in Tooele, Utah, to loving parents Shane and Vickie Duncan.

As a small child growing up in Dugway, Utah, Andee displayed an unusually strong creative spirit. Of her many talents, dancing, music, and art were her main interests. Whether participating in dance recitals as a little girl, perfecting the flute in her teens, winning accolades for her photography as an adult, Andee’s creative brilliance was evident. Andee’s attention to detail, combined with said creativity in her youth, led to the design of many games whose rules to this day confound her younger brother and cousins.

Andee graduated from Dugway High School with honors in 1997. Her quick mastery of most subjects and high capacity for learning led to a want and need to understand the technicalities and inner workings of any subject or object that held her interest.

A love for film and theatre resulted in her obtaining the lead role in the Dugway Elementary School 6th Grade class production of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew and a weekend job in high school operating the film projector at the local theatre.

After graduation, an enthusiasm for theme parks, working with children and a fearlessness reserved for the young, provoked a sudden relocation across the country to Orlando, Florida.

While in Florida, Andee worked at both Disney World and Universal Studios. While employed with the latter, she worked on the production of a popular children’s entertainment program and in this position was closely affiliated with the Make-a-Wish Foundation where she helped to bring absolute joy to sick children whose wish was to become acquainted with their favorite, singing, dancing, purple dinosaur.

Andee is survived by her mother Vickie Duncan, brothers Cody Duncan and Christopher Duncan, and with many loved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father Shane Duncan, grandparents Warren and Mary Lou Ahlstrom, grandparents Farren and Roween Duncan, grandmother Irmgard Ahlstrom, aunts Jeannie Hogan and Kathy Edgeman, uncles Bob Hogan and Gary Edgeman, and cousins Tara Fulmer and Taft Ahlstrom.

Andee was a talented, sensitive, strong-willed woman who lived life strictly on her own terms. Her evident desire to make others happy was matched only by her love for animals. There were not any hungry stray cats prowling the streets in whichever neighborhood Andee happened to live.

Andee will be greatly missed and will remain forever loved.

Our family would like to thank the Logan Regional ER staff for their care of Andee.

A graveside service was held at the St. John Cemetery, in Rush Valley, Utah, on Tuesday, March 30, 2020 at 1:30 p.m.

Obit Carl Edward FramptonCarl Edward Frampton, peacefully passed away in his home surrounded by love Thursday, April 2, 2020. Carl was born in Grass Valley, California, on April 10, 1942, moving to Tooele, Utah, with his family shortly thereafter. Carl was raised by his mother Mary Antonia Homan Frampton as an only child after her husband, Carl Albert Frampton, passed away from a mining accident when Carl was three years old.

Carl had many good friends in his neighborhood in Tooele and it was those friends who introduced him to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After graduating from Tooele High School, he attended the University of Utah. While there, he played on the golf team and enjoyed studying business. Dad loved golf! He spent many days on the greens in Stansbury Park with friends and family. Carl could tell you when and where every major tournament was played throughout the year; you could find him on any of those days watching along at home.

Carl married Ann L. Johanson on Aug. 26, 1967. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 10, 1984.

Carl enjoyed trap and skeet shooting and was successful at both. He won several tournaments and even competed while the family was living in Germany. He taught his kids how to shoot and they have fond memories of shooting with him.

Carl spent his career working in civil service as an auditor, first at the Tooele Army Depot, which is where he met Ann. He ended his career working for the government when he retired from Dugway Proving Grounds.

Carl and his family have so much love, respect and profound gratitude for those who served him in his later years while he was on dialysis. His lifelong friends and his 5th Ward family will always have a special place in our hearts for all they have done for our dad.

James Lougy

Jim Portrait-8x10-printMagna, Utah

James “Jim” Stephen Lougy passed away April 2, 2020, at the age of 70. He was born March 23, 1950, in Tooele, Utah, to Hap and Charlene Sellman Lougy, the eldest of five children. He inherited from his dad a love of the land and an inquisitive mind, and from his mom a wicked sense of humor and affinity for practical jokes. He spoke lovingly of his youth growing up in Tooele, and of the lifelong friendships formed during those years. Like a combination of Dennis the Menace and the Great Brain, his many harebrained schemes and exploits often landed him, his little brother, and their group of friends in heaps of trouble, but left them with an abundance of darn good stories to tell.

Jim joined the Air Force in 1969 and was one of the first graduates of the new computer key punch system, and later cross-trained into computer programming. He married his high school sweetheart Jody in 1970 and together they began their life at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho. In 1973, during the Vietnam War, Jim was sent overseas to Thailand where he helped facilitate the return home of service men and women after the war ended. He liked to recount fondly of returning a year later to see his son Steve, then 3, run excitedly between the legs of people in the crowded airport yelling, “My daddy! My daddy!” Daughter Jamie, only 4 months old when he left, was decidedly cooler in her welcome, but they quickly made up for lost time. The day the family moved to Hill AFB, Utah, in 1977, son Scott decided to make his appearance. Soon after, Jim was stationed at Randolph AFB in San Antonio, Texas. Although it was hard being away from relatives in Utah, the family enjoyed this time in Texas immensely and made many long-lasting memories, from chili cook-offs to rafting down the Guadalupe River to dancing the Cotton Eye Joe. Two years later Jim was honorably discharged from the Air Force having made the rank of E7, which was quite an achievement to have received this rank in under 10 years. After discharge, Jim continued to work hard for his family, attending night school at Trade Tech (now Salt Lake Community College) and earning his Associates Degree in Computer Science. Jim worked as a computer programmer at Utah Power & Light/PacifiCorp and Discover Card Services until a major stroke in 2014 forced him to take an early retirement.

Jim was an avid rock collector and lover of geology. He was thrilled he got to experience a “big one” as he called the recent 5.7 Magna earthquake. A voracious reader and teacher at heart, he was well known for handing off books and magazine articles saying, “Here, read this. There’ll be a quiz afterward.” Jim’s love of music was infectious; he played in a rock band in high school, performed sing-a-longs with his family, taught his grandchildren to play guitar, and always had a song in his heart and a tune to share. He had a passion for photography, and left behind a treasure trove of photos capturing family trips, soccer games, babies, family reunions, holidays, and other precious moments. He was never happier than when he was with his family, especially his grandchildren, taking them on adventures to national parks, caves, or even just to the Halloween store to pick out a new decoration for his scary tableau. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, coworker, neighbor, and friend, forging deep and meaningful connections with people through his kindness and ability to strike up a conversation on just about any subject. Above all, he was unfailingly selfless in his generosity and willingness to help others. He will be remembered for his twinkling blue eyes, mischievous smile, signature wit, storytelling prowess, sense of humor, and for picking out just the right nickname to make you feel special. To his grandkids, he will always be Bumpa, the smartest man in the world.

He was preceded in death by his dad Hap, his brother Donny, and his in-laws Vermont and Joy Thompson. He is survived by his loving wife Jody; his sons Steve and Scott; his daughter Jamie (Rob) Covington; mother Charlene; brother Monty; sisters Cindy Perry and Leisa (Mark) Bankhead; grandchildren Jeffrey, Jordan, Jaidyn, Kaitlyn; and numerous nephews and nieces. He is already being missed by his new furgrandbaby, Arya.

Due to the pandemic restrictions, no funeral services will be held at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, to be announced. For more information go to tatemortuary.com.

Bob is survived by his wife Deborah; children Bob, Trisha, Tommy, Suzy, Liz, and Josh; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents William Elder and Virginia Creekmoore; and his brother Jack Elder.

Bob was born Nov. 28, 1940, in Middletown, Kentucky. Bob joined the U.S. Army and served his country in Vietnam. He ultimately settled in Tooele, Utah, where he lived most of his adult life with his “Bride” and best friend Deborah. After retirement from Tooele Army Depot, he pursued a hand-full of business ventures and ultimately ended up finishing his professional career as an inspector in the fire and life safety industry where he was able to spend several years working with his son, Josh. The new industry suited Bob very well; he made many new friends and left a lasting impression on all those who worked side-by-side with him.

Bob loved the outdoors; camping, fishing with his friends, and even in the final years of his life was able to enjoy the outdoors with his family. He loved to explore the outdoors in his side-by-side with Deborah, tinker on a multitude of projects around the house, and always enjoyed a good movie while relaxing in his favorite chair. He was well known to be a jokester and have a witty funny joke at the ready when the opportunity presented itself. He loved to sing in his church choir, the house, or pretty much wherever he felt the desire to sing. Whenever Bob started to sing the room filled with smiles. He enjoyed spending time with his friends shooting pool at the senior center or playing some poker with his buddies. He was, without a doubt, a very social person who was well liked within many circles of friends. Bob will be missed by all who were blessed to know him, but he has left us with many memories to laugh about together.

Due to the COVID-19 virus and restrictions on group gatherings, we will defer his celebration of life service to a more appropriate and safe time this summer.
