Obit Clifford CrockerClifford “Kip” Crocker passed away Feb. 19, 2019, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Kip was born Nov. 5, 1943, in Kingfield, Maine, to Leland and Ethel (Witham) Crocker and graduated from Mt. Abram High School. He attended business school until he was drafted to serve stateside in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict.

During Kip’s time in the service, he met and married Louise Kindred. They had three children and were divorced after 25 years of marriage. Kip later married Jackie Orton, who preceded him in death.

Kip spent many years as a skilled carpenter, taking great pride in his concrete finishing and other carpentry skills. His latest work included the remodeling of several schools throughout the Salt Lake Valley with Hughes Construction.

Dad enjoyed NASCAR, often making us turn on the TV while he was helping us with household tasks so that he could hear it from the room in which he was working, which almost always resulted in him putting the task off until the next weekend so that he could enjoy the race. He was also an avid pool player, and enjoyed hunting for quite a few years.

Obit - Billie Jeanne Hammond Gunther1931-2019

Billie Jeanne passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Retreat at Sunbrook in St. George, Utah, at the age of 87, Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019, due to incidents of old age. She did have to fight a struggling battle for many years trying to stay with us, but she finally had to let go. She was born April 7, 1931, in Lake Point, Utah, to Willard and Norma Hammond. She married her handsome, strong husband, Marvin Gunther, on Sept. 24, 1949. He was a World War II Veteran.

Billie graduated from Brigham Young University with BS and MA degrees in education. She was a wonderful, sought out, 3rd grade teacher. She taught school for 20 years in the Alpine School District, Orem, Utah. She is remembered for getting all the children in her class to sing a solo and use a microphone. She had a way with giving the children enough confidence to perform at their very best. They did productions all over Utah. Billie also taught piano lessons for many years. She was an extremely gifted musician. She played many instruments, including the piano, bagpipes, accordion, flute and many more. She was responsible for many church talent shows and plays. Billie made sure her own children were very involved with the road shows, and other productions. Even when her own children were grown, she had a way to involve her family in many productions, such as the family precious moments production. Even the grandchildren performed the musical numbers professionally.

Billie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving a full-time mission with Marvin in the St. George Temple, visitor center, and historical sites mission. One of her favorite places was Fairview Canyon where she enjoyed camping, fishing and being with her family. Everyone enjoyed the campouts at Fairview. Obit Marva Jean Draper 1“Jean” Draper, a long-time resident of the Tooele area, died March 6, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Jean was born as a coal miner’s daughter Feb. 8, 1933, in Park City, Utah.

Obit Marva Jean Draper 2In 1967 Jean moved to Tooele, Utah, where she quickly joined the Tooele Civic League through the encouragement of her aunt, Ruby Roberts. Highlights of her community service were many. One of those she was most proud of was receiving a certificate listing her in the Library of Congress Bicentennial Edition for Outstanding Community Leaders. She also was honored as Club Woman of the Year by the Tooele Civic League as well as Club Women of the Year by the Utah General Federation of Women’s Clubs. All who knew Jean know she was always “living the volunteer spirit every day.”

Though accomplishments were many, her devotion was to her husband and children. In 1954, she married her “Forever Sweetheart,” and was blessed to have spent 64 years with her love, Ivan Draper. In 1965 they solemnized their marriage in the Salt Lake LDS Temple where they were sealed to each other and their children, for all time and eternity.

Jean loved good food, socializing with everyone, and had a great sense of humor. She will be well remembered for her devilish smile whenever she played one of her practical jokes on someone, her childlike laugh and blushing when as she told you a joke. She truly wiggled while waiting for your reaction. For those of you who did fall for one of her pranks, you will be blessed with this memory. They were delivered in kindness and fun to those she loved the most. Jean was truly blessed in life. She said it best upon her retirement at age 72 as a successful Realtor for the Tooele County Board of Realtors for many, many years; “The time has arrived for me. Some people try to turn back their odometer. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I have traveled a long road and some of the road was not paved, but what a wonderful trip, made possible by all you great people.”

Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Draper, and is now in his loving arms. She is survived by their children: Alan Draper, Karen Bush (Larry), Debra Mondragon, Elmer (deceased), Claudia Draper-Garrett, Julie Watts; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; her sister, Connie DeYott, Don (deceased); as well as her nieces, nephews and cousins.

A visitation will be held Monday, March 11, 2019, from 6 – 8 p.m., at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main St., Tooele, Utah. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Tate Mortuary. There will be a visitation prior to the service from 10 – 11 a.m.

Special thanks to Rocky Mountain Hospice, Cottage Glenn, and her devoted daughter and niece, Karen Bush and Denyse Deyott, for all your loving care.

“My life’s been full, I’ve savored much. Good friends, good times, and loved-one’s touch.”

She was born July 10, 1943, in San Fernando, California, to Dean Joseph and Gladys Mecham Pulley. She married Duane LeGrand Kummer on June 5, 1964, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Mom grew up in Strawberry, Utah, and attended Duchesne High School. She spent a lot of time at the home of her Grandma Mecham, whom she dearly loved. She later moved to Salt Lake City to attend the University of Utah. Mom was employed at LDS Hospital where she married her boss and love of her life. They would send love letters through the hospital messaging tube system, hoping they would get to the right person. Their love for each other was shown in every action for nearly 55 years.

Mom and dad raised their family in West Jordan, where they lived in the same home for 44 years. It was there that they taught their children the values of compassion, hard work, and service. They later moved to Grantsville to spoil their grandkids and help teach them the same values. Every grandchild loved to talk to grandma; they knew that her love was unconditional.

The legacy of mom’s life was her family. She was a devoted mom who was eager to participate in any activity her children were involved in, from PTA President to the most enthusiastic side-line cheerleader. She adored her grandchildren, and they adored her. She enjoyed traveling in the motorhome, usually with family, to church history and historical sites. Nauvoo was a particular favorite of hers.

Mom had an unwavering testimony of the Gospel. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many callings in Primary, Young Women’s, and Relief Society, and made life-long friends. Mom loved family history and spent years researching her family and learning about their life stories.

She is survived by her husband, Duane; son, Brian (Laura) Kummer; daughter, Tami (Bob) Chambers; daughter, Christy (Ryan) Wangsgard; grandsons, Andrew and Coy; granddaughters, Madison, Ashley, Alyssa, Whitney, Courtney, Lindsey, and Mailey; great-grandson, Luke; sisters, Coleen (Don) Layton, Launa (Kevin) Smith, Pam Kent, and Jackie (Rick) Thomas; brother, Kenneth (Paula) Ivie; brother-in-law, Glenn Kummer; and many nieces and nephews.

She was welcomed back to her heavenly home by her son, Jeff Kummer; sister, Patsy Pulley; parents; stepfather, Ken Ivie; parents-in-law Ralph and Beatrice Kummer; and brothers-in-law, Ricky Kent and LaMar Kummer.

Carol was unfailingly kind and loving and she was very much loved by anyone and everyone who knew her. A true “fifties” gal, she loved Coca-Cola, diners, oldies music, and the USA. She could twirl a baton like a pro, but couldn’t help spilling on herself every time she ate (only passing on one of those attributes to her family). She was a spark of joy and strength to all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two of her children, David and Shawna; and her special friend, Glen. She leaves behind her daughter, Julie (Rick); and her sister, Ann (Val); as well as fifteen grandchildren; eleven (soon to be twelve) great-grandchildren; not to mention hundreds of teapots.
