Obit Florence JohnsonOur loving Sister, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Great-Great-Grandmother, Florence Helen Kim Gordon Johnson, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 21, 2018.

Florence was born on Aug. 7, 1918, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Charles A. Kim and Ingaborg M. Kim. She was the third of four girls. Florence’s mother passed away when she was four years old. Because of this, she became a very hard worker, and had a strong relationship with her father.

Joy is one of the best ways to describe the life that Florence lived. She always had a smile on her face, and had strong relationships with so many people surrounding her. On Sept. 15, 1936, Florence married Alvin H. “Tone” Gordon. They were later sealed on Dec. 30, 1957. They were married for 38 years and raised three wonderful children, Elaine, Kim, and David.

Florence and Tone were very active and enjoyed bowling, softball, waterskiing and many other activities. Tone passed away in 1975. Florence later married a former grade-school acquaintance, Ralph Gustav Johnson, where she continued to live a very active lifestyle. He passed away in 2013.

She was very competitive, which was evident by her many golf, bowling, and softball trophies, blue ribbons at the county fair, and three holes-in-one! She absolutely loved to play golf, and was still swinging the clubs on her 100th birthday. Many of the life lessons she learned on the golf course matriculated into her own life as she said, “Be happy. It is easy to do the wrong thing and be miserable. Always do what you love.”

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ingaborg; her two sisters, Ruth and Irma; her son, David; her great-grandson, Joseph; and her great-granddaughter, Zoie.

She is survived by her sister, Harriet; her daughter, Elaine; her son, Kim; her stepdaughter, Karen McCormack; and 13 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 41 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Dawson Hollow Ward, 2435 E. Cherry Lane, Layton, Utah. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 9-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Tooele City Cemetery. She will be buried next to her husband Alvin.

“The Little Cares That Fretted Me.”

The little cares that fretted me

I lost them yesterday,

Among the fields above the sea,

Among the winds at play;

Among the lowing of the herds,

The rustling of the trees;

Among the singing of the birds,

The humming of the bees.

The foolish fears of what might happen,

I cast them all away

Among the clover-scented grass,

Among the new-mown hay;

Among the husking of the corn

Where drowsy poppies nod,

Where ill thought dies and good are born –

Out in the fields with God.

Michael John Rueckert

Obit Michael John RueckertAfter cheating death more times than seemed humanly possible, on Dec. 31, 2018, Mike died doing what he loved — skiing with his family.

Michael John Rueckert was born May 15, 1955, to Albert and Goldia Rueckert. He graduated from South High School, served in the Japan Osaka Mission, then attended the University of Utah before earning his doctorate from Los Angeles Chiropractic College. He always slept well because he knew that if we worked hard, the Lord would bless it. He worked alongside his brothers in both serving and business his whole life.

Mike and Kendra’s marriage was “a classic tale of true love and high adventure.” He found a partner who would support him in his adventures and love him for it. For 41 years they enjoyed taking trips together, anywhere from Alabama to Iceland. Their love was shared through playing games and doing puzzles. He would frequently tell Kendra and their kids how beautiful her face is. He demonstrated his love with clever cards and gifts. Together they were unstoppable, from planning a party to serving their neighbors.

Mike was loved for his loud laugh, his wide smile and his gag gifts. He was always happiest outside — hiking red rock canyons, cruising snowy slopes, kayaking and skating on thin ice. He was often seen running long distances around Stansbury Lake. But, his greatest superpower was being a husband and father.

Mike’s faith was based on action; his personal motto was: “Get off your butt and serve!” His humor, “git-er-done” attitude, and enthusiasm for the gospel was contagious. He was a scout leader, a bishop and a temple worker for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mike and Kendra had accepted the call to depart for the Philippines Cebu Mission on Jan. 21, before Mike’s unexpected transfer.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Albert Adam Rueckert, and his brother, Andy. He is survived by his mother, Goldia; five brothers, Tom (Debbie), Dave (Ann), Jim (Becky), Rob (Sarah), and Dan (Eloana); his wife, Kendra Dee Moffett; six children: Sparkle (Nestor), Troy (Katie), Rusty (Susanna), Spring (Kaplan), Marty (Cindy), and Rondi; and a plethora of grandchildren (15).

A viewing will be held Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, from 6-8 p.m., 5899 Bayshore Drive, Stansbury Park, Utah. The funeral will be Saturday, Jan. 5, at 11 a.m., 417 Benson Rd., Stansbury Park, with a viewing from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be at the Stansbury Park Cemetery.

I enjoyed spending time at the fraternal organizations in Tooele and had good times with many friends who were made by bartending at the Elks and Eagles for many years.

I didn’t have much to offer the world and have many regrets. I pray Almighty God forgives my faults and leads me to life everlasting in the Kingdom of Heaven.

In closing, I would like to share my favorite quote: “Cowards die many times before their death — the valiant taste of death but once!”

Adios, goodbye… until we meet again.

Samuel Edwin Job

Obit Samuel Edwin JobSamuel Edwin Job, age 74, passed away peacefully at his home in Stansbury Park, Utah, on Jan. 4, 2019, after age, and Lewy Body Dementia, slowly took its toll on his mind and body.

Many knew him as a kind and mild-mannered man, a librarian, a story-teller, a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, a brother, a son, a teacher, a neighbor, a gardener, a bee-keeper, a missionary, and a friend. He was known for his long, entertaining stories, which he loved to repeat often. He loved chocolate, nuts, fruit, vegetables, and ice cream. He appreciated books and movies. He enjoyed participation in sports, like diving, fishing, and jumping on the trampoline. He spent a lifetime learning and teaching others.

He was born Jan. 1, 1945, in Yuba City, California, the second child of Robert and Irene Job. He enjoyed his childhood with his parents and four brothers. He moved quite a bit, living in several places as a child, including New York, Maryland, Oklahoma, Germany, and multiple cities in California. In high school, he participated in football, track and field, basketball, and swim. Funny thing, his graduating class voted him most likely NOT to succeed (why would anyone vote for this?). Naturally, as any sane person would, he spent his life showing otherwise. As an adult, after joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served and taught the people of Chile for two years as a missionary. Following his mission, he attended and graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree. While attending the university, he met and married his sweetheart, Sylvia Heward, for time and all eternity, in June of 1973, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Together, he and Sylvia ventured to Snowflake, Arizona, where he was an elementary school teacher. They later lived in Livingston, California, then Kearns, Provo, and Orem, Utah. While living in Utah, he returned to BYU to earn a master’s degree in library science. Following graduation, he worked in Utah for several years until he found a position that brought his family to Riverside, California — the place they called home for almost 30 years. In California, he worked as a college librarian for San Bernardino Valley and Crafton Hills for a total of 28 years. After retirement, Sylvia suffered a stroke; they sold their home and moved together to reside in Stansbury Park, Utah.

He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, from the time of his conversion, serving in multiple capacities. His testimony and faith and hope in the redeeming power of his Savior, Jesus Christ, helped him to raise and nurture a family. He found success, love, and joy, as a faithful husband, for 45 years, and a devoted father to each of his children.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia Heward Job; brothers, Robert (Louise) Job, Theodore (Susan) Job, John Job, and James Job; 10 children, Julianne (Ryan) Williams, Samuel (Kelly) Job, Marianne (Frank) Mayo, JennyLyn (Brent) Taft, Jeremiah (Sharon) Job, Evelyn (Samuel) Ellsworth, Daniel (Nia) Job, David (Tausha) Job, Jonathan Job, and James Job; 23 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Olivia Job.

Services will be held in Tooele, Utah. The funeral service will be Friday, Jan. 11, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1037 W. Erda Way, at noon. Viewings will be held Thursday, Jan. 10, 6-8 p.m., at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main Street, and at the church prior to the funeral from 10-11:45 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at Stansbury Park Cemetery.
