Obit Cicely Michelle TrujilloCicely Michelle Trujillo (Scooter), age 44, of Tooele, Utah, left us to join our heavenly father on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018. She was a 1992 graduate of Tooele High School. Cicely had the soul of a gypsy, heart of a hippie, and the spirit of an angel. Her eclectic style led to a love of all genres of music and art. She was quick-witted, strong-willed and she loved finding the beauty in hunting treasures and antiques.

She loved animals, her cats JC and Scruffy. She was our family handy woman; if it was broken, she would fix it. If she couldn’t fix it, she would find it a purpose. She was known as “Smiley” because of her infectious smile that would light up a room, which now fills our hearts. She left us too soon, but leaves us with a lifetime of memories and son (Dylan) who continues to carry on her love and joy. Dylan (aka Bo) was born on Cinco De Mayo in 1991 to Cicely Trujillo and Joseph Riley.

Anyone who knew her was always welcomed and knew she would help those in need to the best of her abilities. She was very kind hearted to all. Our lives were blessed by the precious moments of her presence and will be cherished forever. She will be missed dearly by all of us.

Cicely is survived by her loving parents, Richard and Becky Trujillo; life companion of 16 years, Darrell Carberry; son Dylan Trujillo, the light of her life; stepson Kole Carberry; two sisters, Angie (Roger) Slater and Denise (Tim) Olinger; several nieces and nephews, Alexa, (Nick, Tripton) Clemo Presley Montano, and Tommie Olinger; and many aunts, uncles and friends who love her dearly.

Obit Robert William Durrant 11924 – 2018

Robert W. Durrant, age 94, “Jumped the ditch” and rejoined his beloved wife, Mary Dean Stringham Durrant, on Friday, Sept. 21, 2018. Obit Robert William Durrant 2He was born on June 2, 1924, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Walter H. and Ella Rigby Durrant. He had twin sisters, Eva and Ella, a half-sister, Grace, and 3 half-brothers, Rendell, Tom and George Durrant.

In 1926, he moved with his family to Vernon, Utah, to take over the 270-acre homesteaded farm after his grandfather died. He attended school in Vernon and Tooele, but was unable to finish school, serve a full time mission for his church, or to be drafted, because his father had cancer and his brothers all went to war. So he stayed in Vernon to support his ailing parents and care for the farm. Robert did help with the war effort by working in the munition factory in Tooele.

He met Mary Dean Stringham as he attended BYU as a non-matriculated student and they were married on Jan. 18, 1952. Robert and Mary raised six children on their farm in Vernon: Dean (Juleen) of Orem; Roger (Marjorie) of Tooele; Ann (Clyde Mason) of Washington, UT; Laura McComack (Duane Griffin) of Sherman, TX; Robyn (Sam Liddiard) of American Fork; and William (Lisa) of Vernon. Their posterity includes 35 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Robert worked for several years for the Union Pacific Railroad, and more than 15 years at Dugway Proving Ground. He first worked in the animal barns caring for the animals, later as a boiler mechanic, and in the Self Service Supply Center at Dugway.

Robert was a very active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of his life. He was baptized on Sept. 11, 1932, ordained a deacon on Aug. 1, 1936, a teacher on Sept. 3, 1939, a priest on Aug. 10, 1941, an elder on July 18, 1943, Seventy on 30 on March 1947 by S. Dilworth Young, and High Priest on Jan. 13, 1963. He served as a Stake Missionary for the Church and was honorably released on Aug. 1, 1947. He served many years as the Ward Clerk in the Vernon Ward, and had many other callings.

He served a mission for the Church with Mary from January 1992 until February 1993 in the California Oakland Mission. The couple also served in the baptistry in the Jordan River Temple for 13 years from March 1993 until June 2006. His wife Mary returned home on April 5, 2016.

Robert’s true passion in life was farming. He loved caring for the land raising crops, irrigating with the Harker water, riding horses to round up his cattle on the forest, and mostly teaching his children the value of hard work. He loved hunting and camping and being together with family and friends. Robert had a beautiful tenor singing voice and often sang with his Sister Eva Yates for Church meetings, funeral services and civic events.

He is the last surviving member of his immediate family and is survived only by his wife’s siblings: Brother, William C. Stringham, (Marjorie) of Woodland Hills; and sisters, LaRue Larsen of Richfield, Norma Christensen (Clark) of Elsinore, and sister-in-law Alice Pritchett of Orem.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the Vernon Ward chapel in Vernon. Friends may call to greet the family on Friday evening, Sept. 28, from 6-8 p.m., or Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Leave condolences online at didericksenmemorial.com.

Obit Fay Smith 1Fay Smith, age 95, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, at the Rocky Mountain Care Center, in Tooele, Utah.

Obit Fay Smith 2Fay was born in Tooele, Utah, on Sept. 2, 1923, to Clyde Ephriam and Hattie White Smith.

Fay worked for many years in local business establishments starting with the Tooele Drug Store located on the north corner of Main and Vine streets. When that store was sold the new owner moved to a new location across the street on the south corner of Main and Vine. Both of these stores had lunch counters. Fay was well known for taking care of the “regulars” who visited the lunch counters in those stores. Later, when different businesses bought these locations, Fay was employed at Caldwell Drug, located on North Main St., and was owned and operated by Bill and Maurine Bickmore.

After several years at Caldwell Drug, Fay took a position as a dispatcher at Green Top Cab Co., owned and operated by the Gillette family. She was employed at Green Top Cab until she retired.

The Smith home, located at 309 S. 100 East, in Tooele, was located on what was referred to as “Cemetery Hill.” In the wintertime, most of the Tooele youth used this hill for sleigh riding. It was very common for some of us relatives to use the Smith home as a warming place, after several passes down the hill.

Fay is survived by several cousins and other extended relatives.

A graveside service was held on Monday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m., at the Tooele City Cemetery in Tooele, Utah.

Obit Betty May Denney BarrusBetty May Denney Barrus, 87, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Monday, Sept. 17, 2018. She was born Feb. 16, 1931, in Downey, Idaho, to Joseph Boyd and Vivian Reynolds Denney, the fourth of six children.

Betty graduated from Blackfoot High School in Idaho in 1949 and married Neil Hunter Barrus in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in 1951. From that day on her single-minded purpose was the nurture and care of her husband and family. They had five children and mom spent her days employed at home using her homemaking skills: cooking, sewing, cleaning, gardening and preserving food, teaching children, and continually serving others. They spent 31 years in Coeur d’Alene raising their family and enjoying the beauties of Northern Idaho.

Betty served in many church callings, including Relief Society President twice. After retirement they served missions to Samoa and the genealogy library in Salt Lake City, Colorado Denver North, and the Nauvoo Temple. They relocated to Nampa, Idaho, to be closer to family and spent many years as temple workers, traveling, and helping their kids with all kinds of projects.

Betty loved to read and is known for her collection of Teddy Bears. She had a special spirit about her and all could feel it even when she lost the ability to communicate the last two and one half years of her life. Her family and the gospel were her life. She lived with her daughter, Brenda Petersen, in Grantsville, Utah, for the last six years.

Betty and Neil spent 64 years together before he passed away three years ago and they have left their family an extraordinary example of true love. Betty leaves behind their children: Pamela (Rolf) Bitsch, Ron (Tanis) Barrus, Brenda (Dave) Petersen, Shauna (Mark) Comstock and Denney (Allison) Barrus; 19 grandchildren and 56 great grandchildren with one on the way. Betty is also survived by her sister, Marjorie, and brother, David.

Obit Robert Rolland WoodsonRobert Rolland Woodson, “Bob,” “Gabby,” “Woody,” “Gramp,” “Pop Pop” and “Dad,” passed away unexpectedly at his home in Tooele, early Saturday morning, joining his dad, precious mom and older sister, Lorraine.

Robert was born Sept. 14, 1946, to Robert and Ruhama Woodson in Kincheloe, West Virginia. He was the oldest son of 12 siblings. They include: Lorraine Small, Lawrence Woodson, Wayne Woodson (Rhonda), Adelene Allen (Mason), Gordan Woodson (Kathy), Phillip Woodson (Tammy), Dewaine Woodson, Floyd Woodson, Noreene Heater (Bruce), Jerene Sprouse (Gary), and Marlene Anderegg (Andy).

Robert grew up working on the family farm milking cows, feeding the hogs and chickens, rabbit hunting and gathering the chicken eggs in the evening. Farm life was rarely easy but with the 12 of them there was never a dull moment.

In November 1966, Robert was drafted into the Army and was stationed at Tooele Army Depot where he met his soon-to-be wife, Peggy Johnson. Robert and Peggy were married Nov. 25, 1967, shortly before Robert left to serve in the Vietnam War. He came home in November 1968 even more patriotic then when he left and that pride has always remained with him. Robert and Peggy made their home in Weston, West Virginia, and later settled in Tooele, Utah, where they raised four daughters: Shauna Woodson, Kim Hervat (Mark), Cathy Hammond (Bobby) and Robin Woodson.

Robert worked at Tooele Army Depot as an electrician for 46 years. Prior to a traumatic accident at work in April 1996, which restricted a lot of physical activity, hunting, fishing, camping and 4-wheeling were Dad’s passions. His love for all of them came out with the stories he told, and boy, he could tell a story.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, 10 siblings, 4 daughters, 7 grandchildren, 2 great- grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Robert was proud to be a Grandpa and Great Grandpa and had a deep love for all of them. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
