Shirley Ann Boothe passed away on Jan. 25, 2015, after a courageous battle with COPD. She was born on September 18, 1944, in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, to Perry Herman and Florence Caroline Landgraf. She grew up on the family farm in Sullivan, Wisconsin, with her sister, Phyllis Marie Weber. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1962. She married Laurence Martin Deegan in 1962 and had two daughters: Dee Ann Marie (Scott) Parry and LuAnn Sue Olson. She helped to raise her two nephews; James Paul Deegan (deceased) and Francis “Joe” Deegan. During 1977, she moved to Utah. On Aug. 19, 1979 in Elko, Nevada, she married her sweetheart, DeVon “Hungry” James Boothe. They made their home in Erda, Utah. Their marriage enhanced Shirley’s family by adding four children; Karee (Bart) Powell, Cindy (Dave) Gillette, Jay (Danielle) Boothe and DeAnn (Rodney) Ruby. Her children, grandchildren and many friends and neighbors were the recipients of her natural talent as she made dainty crochet doilies, porcelain dolls, quilts, Christmas tree ornaments and many other crafts. She loved gardening and food storage; she bottled everything from apples to venison. Her adventurous spirit was evident through the years as she always enjoyed a good road trip, she was able to handle a full dress Harley, played pool, fished, hunted, rode and raised horses (S & B Quarter Horses). She enjoyed seeing her horses on the race track. One of the offspring (Dontgimmenobs “Gimm”) from her horses won the 2013 World Chariot Racing title in Idaho. She enjoyed the company of her bird, “Bud,” and taught him to mimic her voice and phrases.
Shirley worked at the nursing home in Tooele, bartended at the S & W in Lake Point and was a manager at the Union 76 Truck Stop. She retired in 2008 from the Flying J where she worked at several locations including; Lake Point and Salt Lake City, Utah, Evanston, Wyoming, and Wells, Nevada. Shirley loved her 25 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Her weekend pals were her two grandsons, Connor and Landon Olson. She truly appreciated her grandson Raymond’s companionship and helping hands after “Hungry” left her side. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, DeVon “Hungry” James Boothe; her parents, Florence and Perry Landgraf; her sisters, Phyllis Marie Weber and Linda Lou Landgraf; DeVon’s daughter, Delin Boothe; her great-granddaughter, Brylee Ann Couvrette; granddaughter, Cortney Bruce; and son-in-law, Todd Elsbury.
