0127 Obit Richard N. GallowayRichard N. Galloway, 38, joined his mother, Leona Galloway, and father, Lehi Galloway, on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2015. He was born in Tooele on Dec. 29, 1977 with seven brothers and three sisters — Alan, Lee, Harold, Leon, Floyd, Curtis and Paul Galloway; and his sisters, Mary Moody, Terry Wall and Leeann Moody. He had lots of nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law. He always seemed to smile or make a joke, whether it was riding the go-karts and ATVs in the fields, picking fruits from the trees out back, or just picking on the loads of kids running every place during the family BBQs. He will be missed. We are holding a service for Richard on Friday, Jan. 30 at the stake center at 1025 Southwest Dr. in Tooele, Utah, at 10 a.m. We would like to thank family and friends and the folks at Dalton Hoopes Funeral Parlor & Undertakers. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.daltonhoopes.com.

Obit Noreen Peterson Whear BensonOn the afternoon of Jan. 14, 2015, the world lost a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She fought a valiant 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her greatest treasures, her family. Noreen was born Oct. 15, 1947 to Elmer W. and Elnora Johnson Peterson. She was the youngest of four children, having an older brother and two older sisters. Noreen was tenacious, spunky, fun-loving and always busily involved. By the time she graduated high school in 1965, she already had a job. Through the years, she had many different jobs, retiring in 2003 from the Tooele Army Depot where she was a contract specialist. She married Bill Whear in Sept. 1966 and two daughters were born of this union. Lisa and Kelli. How she loved her girls and later the grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they came along! They lived in Tooele throughout their marriage except for two years in Panama. Noreen was full of life, always fun to be around, mischievous. She had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. She and her friends would get together and end up laughing until they were exhausted. People were drawn to her and she had many lasting friendships. She was generous to a fault and many friends, family and even strangers were recipients of her generosity. She helped anyone she met who was in need. She never judged them, she only saw they were in need and helped them. She married Pete Benson in Dec. 1998, adding two step-daughters, Kim and Sarah, and four more grandchildren. Pete and Noreen moved to Hurricane, Utah, after her retirement so Pete could be closer to his mother to help care for her. While in Hurricane, a little brown stray dog came into her life. Noreen named her Sophie, they were inseparable. Pete and Noreen returned to Tooele in July 2014, hoping that would stir up fond memories of her old hometown where she lived most of her life. She courageously dealt with great medical burdens, being legally blind and also having Alzheimer’s. It was a lot for one person to bear. She remained loving and giving until she was no longer able to. Noreen is survived by her husband Pete, her daughters Lisa Whear and Kelli Goodchild; step-daughters Kim Benson and Sarah (Bob) Brown; sisters Doris Koford, Karla (Fred) Christensen and brother Wayne (Ana) Peterson. Also grandchildren Travis and Alyssa Green, Kaitlin (Jeremy) Sorenson, Tate and Olivia Kelley, and Mattie Goodchild; Sam Benson, Kenadee Nez, Preslee and Cylas Brown. Great-grandchildren Carter and Sydney Spendlove and Milo Sorenson. And last but not least, her four-legged companion, Sophie. A celebration of life ceremony will be held Saturday, Jan. 31 from 1-3 p.m. at the Eagles Nest at the Tooele Army Depot, Building 1005. Please join us in celebrating Noreen’s life. The family would like to give many thanks to the dedicated caregivers at Harmony Home Health and Cottage Glen Care Center for making Noreen’s last weeks more comfortable.

Obit Ferne Snyder MatthewsFerne Snyder Matthews passed away peacefully on Feb. 5, 2015, in Grantsville, Utah, at the age of 95. Ferne was born Aug. 23, 1919, to Ernest and Gertrude Tripp Snyder in Tooele, Utah. She had a happy childhood and learned to be generous as she watched her father share what they had during the Depression era. She did well in school and graduated from Tooele High and Seminary in 1937. She attended Utah State University and worked various jobs. She married the love of her life, Chester Harold “Skin” Matthews, on Nov. 7, 1941, in the Salt Lake Temple and moved to Grantsville to reside on the family farm. They were blessed with two sons, Ernie and Paul. Tragedy struck when Skin died unexpectedly on May 10, 1962. When the boys were raised, they took over the farm and Ferne moved to Salt Lake. She went back to school and earned her LPN degree. She worked at LDS Hospital in the nursery for 25 years where she loved taking care of new moms and babies. She retired in 1989 and moved back home. She was an active member of the LDS Church and Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Three things were important to Ferne: her family, her faith, and sharing food. She loved holiday parties and especially enjoyed preparing food for the deer hunters and cow hands. Even if you told her you weren’t hungry, she brought food. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, telling stories, spoiling her grandkids, talking on the phone, decorating Skin’s grave, flowers, and the farm. Despite being a widow for nearly 53 years, she remained totally devoted to her husband and temple marriage. She was known as “Grandma Ferne” to many and will be missed by all who knew her. Caessea Anderson

Obit Caessea AndersonOn Sunday afternoon, Feb. 8, 2015, Heaven received our beautiful, loving child back into our creator’s arms. Our pain and sorrows are profound and overwhelming, and we have all been shaken to the core of our being. Caessea is 9 years old and everywhere we look there is a void, a longing, and a memory of the things we have done, and plans never accomplished. Caessea was born on May 4, 2005 to Chip and Necole Anderson. She attended West Elementary and was involved in programs, science projects, and many other activities and earned high marks in everything she attempted. She dreamed of becoming a teacher, a chef, an architect and one day a veterinarian, and shared those dreams with all who would listen. She was always helpful, kind, polite and attentive. Her smile was infectious and she was happy fishing, shooting, watching videos, playing with her dolls and building castles, bird houses, or a doll house from scraps around the house. Caessea was presented with her first niece, Arianna Land, a year ago and took care of her with the kindness and gentleness and spirit that can only come from a profoundly loving soul. Her great-great-grandmother recently celebrated her 90th birthday and she and Caessea spent precious time together and she loved helping with decorations and serving the seniors. There will always be an empty seat at our dinner table and the little voice to ask if we can have our family dinner and can we say grace. These words are but a page in the gift from God that we are so blessed to have in our lives. We’ve heard it said that time heals all wounds. The world, our community and our family are devastated at the loss of a wonderful child and all the possibilities and the dreams that should have been. Caessea is preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Lenore Johnson; great-grandparents, Alvin and Ethel Anderson; great-grandmother, Grace Boyter; uncle, Jack Anderson and great-great grandfather, Clyde Thompson. She is survived by her parents, Chip and Necole Anderson; three sisters, Dustee and Jolene Anderson and Kayllah Land (Dustin Land) and her niece, Arianna Land, as well as her sister and brother, Jessea and Wyatt Keilman.
