RJ Holland

Obit RJ HollandRJ Holland of San Tan Valley, Arizona, passed away Dec. 4, 2015, in Holladay, Utah. He was 86. RJ was born Jan. 13, 1929, in Norman, Oklahoma. He later moved to California, where he worked at the Del Mar Cannery in Monterey. He later got drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War, where he got two Purple Hearts and many other medals. He later came back to marry his sweetheart, Lorraine L. Williams. He worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Oakland, California. After he retired, RJ moved to Tooele, Utah, and then to Wenden, Arizona. Lorraine passed away in July 1994. RJ later married Ivonda Irwin and moved to San Tan Valley, Arizona, where she passed away. He was preceded in death by his wives, his parents, his seven brothers, three sisters and one daughter. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, camping and boating with his family. Later in life, one of his greatest joys was riding his Goldwing trike (we thought he was having a midlife crisis). RJ was a member of the GWRRA motorcycle club, and a proud member of the NRA. RJ is survived by his son, Ronald J. Sr. (Laurie) Holland, Magna, Utah; daughters Rayla Jayne (Dewey) Holland of Robert Lee, Texas, Vicky (Steve) Hoagland of San Tan Valley, Arizona, and Rita (Kenny) Beatie of West Jordan, Utah; grandchildren, Jenifer Marshall, Ronald J. Jr. (Liz) Holland, Justin Myers, Rachel Myers and Marty Myers III, Rhett Hoagland, Lacy (Dave) Smith and Misty (Zane) Lawhon; 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandkids. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Prescott, Arizona, at the National Cemetery with military honors. Obit Patricia Carol AlbersPatricia Carol Albers, of Mather, California, passed on Dec. 15, 2015, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was a native of Big Spring, Texas, age 57. She was a former resident of Tooele, Utah. Loving wife of Randall Albers; cherished mother of Joseph Thomas and Angela Thomas. She had 14 grandchildren. She was the daughter of Tom (Carolyn) Mills and Lizzie Mikesell and sister of Cynthia Gillette and Kathryn Johnson. Friends are welcome for visitation Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, from 4-8 p.m. at Price Funeral Chapel (6335 Sunrise Blvd., Citrus Heights, California, 916-725-2109) and are invited to attend services Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at 10 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mather Ward Chapel (9821 Old Placerville Rd., Sacramento, California). Interment will be in Garden City, Kansas.

Obit Krystal Dawn FongerBorn Feb. 13, 1992, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Kenneth Lee and Jeannie Fonger, Krystal passed away unexpectedly Dec. 17, 2015, in Cedar City, Utah. Krystal recently became a mother to a new baby boy in September, which was the proudest moment of her life. She was a wonderful mother to baby Dezzert. Krystal was a strong, independent, loving woman and lived life to the fullest. She loved being outdoors and the ranch life which included her horses, working with her livestock and being with all of her family and friends. She was attending college at Southern Utah University, will be receiving her bachelor degree in animal science and had planned on moving on to veterinary school. She was loved by all who she came in touch with and left a lasting impression in everyone’s heart. She will be dearly missed by all. Heaven has received another beautiful angel. She is survived by son Dezzert; fiancé Joshua Booth; parents Mike and Jeannie Mavity, brothers Mike (Thelma) Scott, Weston and Clancy Mavity; sisters Jennifer (TJ) Madilynn Mavity and Kayla Girod; grandparents Vickie (Dick) Rolfe, Judy Fonger, and Blaine Johnson. Krystal is survived by many uncles, aunts, cousins and special friends who loved her more than words can express. She was preceded in death by her father Kenneth Lee Fonger; grandparents Butch Fonger, Joe and Myrtle Shields, Tommie Petroff and Kathy Johnson and Uncle Jack. A memorial and celebration of Krystal’s life will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015, at 7 p.m. A viewing will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. prior to the services at the LDS cultural hall at 415 W. Apple Street in Grantsville, Utah. The family is requesting that you bring your favorite story of Krystal that can be shared with her son as he grows older. Obit Gayle Reneé Russell NelsonOn Dec. 16, our sweet Reneé returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father. Reneé was born in Tooele on Feb. 22, 1960, to Lamar “Moe” and Gayle Russell. She attended Tooele High, where she was on the swim team and was valedictorian of her class. She graduated in 1978. She and Rick were high school sweethearts. They were married on Nov. 15, 1980. Reneé has been keeping Rick in line since. She has always been his angel. She worked various jobs in the community, the most recent being at the Tooele City Cemetery. She also took care of her mom. She was always giving of her self and was passionate in her work. She loved doing arts, crafts, crocheting and fishing. She loved listening to Keith Urban. She is survived by her husband and mom; sisters Roxann (David) Stoddard, Angie (Greg) Dohlstrom and Valerie (Brett) Castagno; mother- and father-in-law Judy and Cecil Nelson and sister-in-law Tammy (Jesse) Dunn. She was preceded in death by her father and her infant brother, William. Services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 23 at 5 p.m. at the Tooele Moose Lodge, 1100 E. Vine Street.

Obit Jeanette BrownJeanette Brown, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, unexpectedly returned to her heavenly home on the morning of Dec. 17, 2015. Jeanette was born on June 26, 1939, and raised in Grantsville, Utah, one of eight children of Arthur and Eveline Oliver. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in various capacities throughout her adult lifetime. Jeanette was fond of music, whether listening, performing or directing. She particularly enjoyed showing her love for the Savior by writing and directing the choir Christmas and Easter programs at church. Family was the most important thing to Jeanette. She was fiercely loyal to her children and grandkids, and always ready to offer a helping hand or advice when any of them were in need. She loved spending time with family, whether camping and fishing in the great outdoors, attending sporting events, playing cards or board games, watching movies, or simply talking on the phone. Jeanette is survived by her husband, George Brown, her three boys — James (Frances) Walker, Joseph (Rosemary) Walker and John (Roxanne) Walker, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two older sisters, Winona and Ruby, and her baby brother, Lynn. She is preceded in death by her parents, her older brother Elden, and her older sisters Ruth, Alice and Dortha. Jeanette will be deeply missed by her family, friends and loved ones. Viewing will be at 9:30 a.m. and funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 22 at Tate Mortuary in Tooele located at 110 S. Main Street, followed by a short graveside service for family to be held at the Grantsville City Cemetery located at 370 W. Main Street, Grantsville, Utah.

Obit Jerry Wilson SteelmanJerry Wilson Steelman, age 68, died at his home in Stansbury Park on Friday, Dec. 18, 2015. He was born on July 7, 1947, in Decatur, Alabama, to Gentry and Melba McWhorter Steelman. He married Patricia Hughes on Aug. 2, 1969, in Decatur, Alabama. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969-71. He worked for many years as a chemist at Dugway Proving Grounds. He is survived by his wife Patricia and his son Christopher (Jennifer) of Stansbury Park; his daughter Jennifer Steelman of Washington, D.C.; a grandson Hayden and a sister Patricia Laseter of Hanceville, Alabama. He is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Angela. A memorial service will be held at Tate Mortuary on Sunday, Dec. 27 at 3 p.m., where family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Interment will be later in Decatur, Alabama.

Obit Mary R. HatfieldOur beloved Mary R. Hatfield left this earthly life on Dec. 20, 2015, after a long and courageous battle with carcinoid tumor cancer. Mary was born Dec. 17, 1964, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was raised in Pine Canyon, Utah, and graduated from Tooele High School. She later moved to Riverdale, Utah, and finally settled in Cedar City, Utah. Mary had a talent and love for sewing, crocheting, cooking and baking, which she enjoyed sharing with everyone. She enjoyed sightseeing and long road trips with her husband. She worked as a pro-cashier at The Home Depot, where she made many dear and lasting friendships. She is survived by her loving husband Wayne Whitman (Cedar City, Utah); stepdaughters Sarah (Jason) Catrambone, (Williston, North Dakota) and Sadie Whitman (Livingston, Montana); granddaughter Callie Catrambone; mother R. Lucille Hatfield (Pine Canyon, Utah); brothers Larry (Jan) Hatfield (Erda, Utah), Raymond (Julie) Hatfield (Tooele, Utah) and Tom Hatfield (Pine Canyon, Utah); sisters Michelle (Todd) Mickelson (Herriman, Utah), Amy (Heath) Andrew (Bismarck, North Dakota) and Wendy (DeeJ) Payne (Erda, Utah); and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She is preceded in death by grandparents Ray and Ruth Harrison and sister Celia Ann Graft. We would like to thank the doctors and staff at Valley View Medical Center and Dixie Regional Medical Center for their tender care of her. At Mary’s request, there will be no funeral services. She will be cremated and continue to road trip with her husband. We love you and miss you! Until we meet again.

John (Ross) Andersen

John (Ross) Andersen passed away Dec. 7, 2015, at Ivins, Utah. Born Sept. 3, 1928, to Vernal A. Andersen and May Neilson, he served in the Navy from May 1949 to Feb. 1952. He married Edna J. Owen in the Salt Lake Temple on Nov. 14, 1951. He lived in Tooele and worked at the Tooele Army Depot until he retired. He served at the Jordan River, Provo, and Mesa temples from 1981 to 2008. He is survived by his wife Edna Jean Owen; son John R. Andersen (spouse Christine); daughter Pamela K, (spouse Terry Jewett); Deborah Andersen, wife of deceased son Charles; son Ivan Andersen (spouse Teresa); daughter Daisy May (spouse Bill Kelley); daughter Laurellee (spouse Wade Zimmerman); 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; brother (Pinky) Vernal Andersen (spouse Nina); sister Ruth Paxman and sister Shirley Rakes. Thanks to all our family and friends for your wonderful association and loving support. Please no flowers, buy yourself a BYU game ticket compliments of Ross, BYU’s biggest fan :). Obit Allen F. MartinezAllen F. Martinez, born Aug. 29, 1951, passed away peacefully on Dec. 21, 2015. He was survived by his wife Kathleen, father Esequiel Martinez, sister Paula (Chris) Eisenbrandt, children Melinda (John) Martinez-Sanchez, Shelly (John) Christensen, Angela Martinez and Tobias Martinez, stepchildren Brian (Lorri) Dahl, Brenda (Paul), Keith Wilson, Carrie (Tyson) Vorwaller and Jeremy (Heather) Wilson, grandchildren Shelyn (Chris) Vargas, Jordy Christensen, Angel Martinez, Anthony Sanchez, Arianna Martinez and Ceasar Sanchez, niece Brandy (David) Boltz, as well as nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by mother Mabel Martinez and niece Brooke Boltz. He worked at Anaconda Carr Fork Mine and Tooele Army Depot and retired from Vandenburg Air Force Base. Our dad loved tinkering and riding his bikes, being with his family and enjoyed “stirring up chaos within the family” (but all in good fun). Funeral services will be at St. Marguerite Catholic Church on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at 9:40 a.m. Lunch to follow graveside services.

Obit Tina Sue Shepherd (Fletcher)Tina Sue Shepherd (Fletcher) passed away unexpectedly at her home in Erda, Utah, on Dec. 23, 2015, at the age of 49 years young. Tina was born in Denver, Colorado, on Sept. 25, 1966, and came to Salt Lake City, Utah, at the age of 5.  Tina loved her children, grandchildren, the outdoors, and the color purple.  She is survived by her fiancé Jeff Rydalch, her children Jacob Shepherd, Jason (Candice) Shepherd, Jocelin (Rob) Wells, Cody (Tiffany) Rydalch and Amber (Greg) Hargis, her nine grandchildren, her parents Robert and RaNae Fletcher and Susan Dyck, her siblings JoLeen (Dale) Slack, Tammy Clemens, Terri (Jim) Nieder, Kurt (Jamie) Dyck and Shelly (John) Luoma, and sister-in-law Wendy Dykavich (Thorpe). Tina was reunited with her brother Thomas John Thorpe. Services will be held at Tooele Springs Calvary Chapel on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at 10 a.m. located at 47 N. Main in Tooele, Utah. Obit Judith Gwen Frandsen IrelandJudith Gwen Frandsen Ireland, daughter of John Leland and Rachel Anderson Frandsen, was born Feb. 13, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended the public schools in Grantsville, graduating from Grantsville High School in 1957. She then attended the University of Utah, majoring in speech and theater arts, and graduating in 1961 with a baccalaureate degree in secondary education. After teaching for several years, she enrolled in Brigham Young University where she earned her master of library science degree. She then joined the staff of the Salt Lake Public Library, subsequently serving for several years as director of the Rose Park Branch. She married Gary Burke Kellogg, later to become John Robert Ireland, in the Provo LDS Temple on June 23, 1977. Judith died at her home in Salt Lake City on Dec. 18, 2015, following a long illness. She is survived by her son, Matthew Qian-Quan Ireland, Salt Lake City, and sole sibling, John Christian Frandsen, Auburn, Alabama. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Dec. 23, 2015.

Obit AlDan (Al) JuddAlDan (Al) Judd was born in Kanab, Utah, on April 12, 1956, to Oscar and Myrtle Judd. His brothers and sisters are Theryl, JaNae (Ray), Lynette (John), Kim and Lon (Karen). AlDan married Sheri Willes in the Idaho Falls Temple on Jan. 20, 1978. They have five children: Trenten (Pamela), Daniel (Nirda), Royce (Abish), Stacy (Cody) and Stanley. They have seven grandchildren: Dallin, Kali, Jared, Ty, Kate, Vicky and Alejandro, and No. 8 on the way in May. AlDan grew up in the red rocks of southern Utah and northern Arizona. He enjoyed spending summers at his dad’s ranch, working in the hay, chasing cows, riding bikes through barbed wire, playing and working hard. Al worked for SkyWest Airlines for 35 years. He always worked nights which made him available for the family whenever they needed him. Al had a lot of hobbies including RC planes, big planes, guns and riding his motorcycle. AlDan traveled the country with Sheri on the back of his Honda Goldwing to visit national parks, monuments, and 22 temples from Rochester, New York, to the Redwood Forest in California. He was loved and will be missed. Funeral will be Wednesday at noon at the Stansbury Bayshore LDS Chapel, 5899 Bayshore Drive, Stansbury Park, with a visitation one hour prior. Another visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main, Tooele. Burial will be Thursday in Alton, Utah.


Kathlyn Hilda O’Leary Holm

Obit Kathlyn Hilda O’Leary HolmKathlyn Hilda O’Leary Holm died Dec. 23 at the age of 88. Kathlyn was born Nov. 14, 1927, in Milford, Utah, to Hilda Christensen and Fred William O’Leary. She graduated from Milford High School. She married James Victor Holm and together they had four sons. Most of their married life was spent in Salt Lake City. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She kept up with family members using Facebook. She had a great sense of humor. Her passions included oil painting, gardening, reading, and word puzzles. She delighted in driving through the desert areas near her home. She served in the D.U.P., PTA and the LDS church. She loved having her hair and nails done. In her later years she loved to go to lunch with her lady friends. She enjoyed eating chicken sandwiches, McNuggets, Chinese buffet, ice cream and chocolate. Kathlyn saw the best in people and if she saw negative in others she would not speak of it. She was truly a special woman and will be greatly missed. Survived by sons Terry V. Holm (Claudia), Bert Holm (Reva) and Guy O. Holm (Nancy), sister Vanda Eversole (Gene) and many beloved nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 30 at noon at the LDS 6th Ward Chapel (81 Church Street, Grantsville), with a viewing from 10-11:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will follow at Elysian Burial Gardens (1075 E. 4580 South, Salt Lake City). Services entrusted with Didericksen Memorial, 435-277-0050.

Obit Brittany Sue Limb 1Brittany Sue Limb (Pooh Bear), 26, of Rush Valley, our beautiful daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend returned to her Heavenly Father on Friday, Dec. 25, 2015. Obit Brittany Sue Limb 2Brittany was born in Provo, Utah, to Russ and Gloria Jones Limb on Monday, Nov. 27, 1989. She grew up in West Jordan, Utah, attending Heartland Elementary and West Jordan Middle School.

In January 2003, she moved with her family to Rush Valley, Utah, and attended Tooele Junior High before transferring to Dugway Junior/Senior High School where she was active in basketball, golf and choir, graduating in 2008. She then went to school for her CNA and went on to Steven Henager College, graduating in 2012 with her MA in medical specialties. Brittany started working for Danville Services in 2008 as direct support staff, and recently started a second job with Heartvigson School as a paraeducator. It gave her great pleasure working with adults and kids with special needs. Brittany was a very strong and loving person. She was a go-to for a lot of people and she was always there to help and love whoever was in need. She was a caring daughter, a great and helpful sister, and an aunt that took great pride in her nieces and nephews whom she loved more than life. You could always count on Aunt Brittany to be at any event they were in, and she was always there to babysit. She helped many family and friends through some very hard times.

Brittany is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a huge fan of the New York Yankees, Miami Dolphins, L.A. Lakers, Texas Longhorns, Jeff Gordon and Chris Young. She is survived by her parents; grandparents Bernice Limb and Merrill and Joyce Willis; siblings

Scott Thomas, Amy Anderson, Jennifer Thomas, Tiffany (Jason) Kallbacka, Kimberly (Cory) Rackley, Dustin (Erica) Limb, Cody (Ashlee) Limb, Rachel (Tim) Leavitt, Erica Limb, Joshua (Shari) Limb and Brady Tracy; 22 nieces and nephews with a nephew due in April; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Max Jones and Rex Limb; uncles Bruce Limb and Val Limb; and a special friend Jason Klinkenberg. There will be a viewing Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main, Tooele, Utah. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Rush Valley Ward Chapel, 985 N. Church Street, Rush Valley, Utah. Friends and family may visit Wednesday morning from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Tooele City Cemetery.

Obit Roy Loren Cassity 1Our beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend, Roy Loren Cassity, age 84, passed away at home on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Obit Roy Loren Cassity 2He was born in Tooele, Utah on June 13, 1931, to Edward P. and Arvilla Walker Cassity. He was the fifth of six children. At the age of 14, Roy moved to the Salt Lake Valley after the death of his mother. Shortly after the age of 17, Roy enlisted in the U.S. Army. Upon returning from the Army, he married the love of his life, Antonette (Toni) Thompson in 1950 in Elko, Nevada, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1961. Together, they raised five children. Roy was very ambitious and set a wonderful example of hard work and dedication. He loved his business “Triple C Trucking” and was always involved in a new project. He had numerous hobbies — stock car racing, trap shooting, bow hunting, bowling, boxing and baseball. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially at the family cabin. He was a natural with his grandchildren and always found a way to make them feel special. We will greatly miss his infectious smile, wonderful stories and his legacy of faith, love and devotion to family. He is survived by his loving wife, Antonette (Toni) Cassity; his children, Janet (Ron) Vincent, Charlene (Willie) Tso, Cindy (Randy) Christensen and John (April) Cassity; sister Joyce Weight; 21 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Ronald Roy, his parents, sister and three brothers. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Skyline Ward Chapel, 777 Skyline Drive, Tooele, Utah. A viewing will be held Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main, Tooele, Utah, and again from 10-11 a.m. at the church prior to funeral services. Interment will be at the Tooele City Cemetery.

Obit Nora “Jane” Redfield (MacKnight)Nora “Jane” Redfield (MacKnight) succumbed to cancer after a 34-year remission from breast cancer at the home of Craig and Dottie Burnham in Bountiful, Utah, on Dec. 11, 2015, while under the hospice care. Jane was widowed by her late husband, Bennie Lee Redfield, on May 12, 1992, in Tooele, Utah. Cremation is through the Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home in Helena, Montana. Jane was born Feb. 1, 1935, to Crawford George MacKnight and Flossie (Murray) MacKnight in Vernal, Utah. Her hometown was Jensen, Utah, where she attended Jensen Elementary School and Uintah High School. She continued to educate herself throughout her lifetime through reading books (3-5 novels weekly). Some of Jane’s favorite hobbies and activities included reading, fishing, hunting, gardening, camping, riding ATVs, waterskiing, painting, photography, playing cards, cross-country motorcycling, dancing, bowling, private piloting and being a serious movie critic. Jane was a friend to everyone she met and would oftentimes strike a conversation with a total stranger. She was proud to be a granddaughter of Josephine Bassett Morris and lived her life according to “Granny’s” beliefs and expectations. Being a mother to five children at a very early age, Jane had the opportunity to grow with her children while raising them. Jane was active in both The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Baptist Church. As a young woman, she was involved with the PTA and 4-H Club. Jane lived her life her way and to the fullest; no regrets. The most important thing to Jane was her family. She was loved and will be missed by many. She is survived by her son Robert Kerry Smuin Sr.; daughters Tracy Lee (Smuin) MacKnight and Annette (Smuin) Smith; sisters Dorothy (Craig) Burnham and Gladys Wilda MacKnight; 24 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews. Jane was preceded in death by her father, Crawford George MacKnight; mother, Florence “Flossie” Estella (Murray) MacKnight; brothers William George “Boone” MacKnight and Francis “Frank” Norvil MacKnight; baby Abraham MacKnight; sisters Amy (MacKnight) Lube, Isabelle “Belle” Emma (MacKnight) Christensen and Betty Ann (MacKnight) Eaton; son Gilbert George Smuin; daughter Janet Faye (Smuin) Stills; and grandsons baby Cliff Morgan and Joshua Latham. A memorial service will be held in Jensen, Utah, the week of July 4, 2016. Family and friends are encouraged to attend this celebration of Jane’s life on Sunday, July 3 at Josie’s cabin in Dinosaur National Monument.
