Obit Helen Lucille EyreHelen Lucille Eyre was born on a beautiful day Aug. 15, 1938, in San Francisco, California.

She was born to John Sharp and Lucille Ross and grew up in Salt Lake City. As a child she lived with her uncle Gene and aunt Evelyn’s family and had many fond childhood memories.

She married the love of her life and her eternal companion William Pratt Eyre on Sept. 3, 1955, and were later sealed in the Jordan River Temple. They created a beautiful legacy together, teaching them to believe in God, love, and family togetherness. It is in these teachings that has given the family peace and comfort knowing we will be reunited again in the glorious kingdom of Heaven. Our parents’ journey on Earth consisted of many joys and sorrow raising teenagers in four different decades. Mom was a wonderful seamstress and crocheted many homemade gifts. She loved to sing and attend church. Her family was her pride and joy.

Our parents loved to visit. We grew up knowing our uncles, aunts, cousins and friends because relationships were important to them. We cherish this gift as many people have reached out to share their wonderful memories of our parents. Our mom’s last part of her journey was challenging due to her being in a nursing home during the COVID-19 pandemic. We were unable to visit her and we could hear in her voice she was declining. As a family we made the decision to bring her home and we all took turns taking care of her, which was such a great honor to walk our mama to her home in heaven. Our parent’s life circle is completed. As a family we feel so blessed to know families are forever.

Mom was preceded in death by her husband Bill, daughter Nadine (Lester) Price, granddaughter Bree Lebo. She is survived by her son Bill (Glenna), Judy, Debbie (Les), Karla, Steve (Ann), Earl (Becky) and Leonard; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; along with numerous friends and family that our parents treated as their own children. We miss you Mama and are so happy you and Dad are watching over us till we meet again. Forever in our hearts.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., Jan. 27, 2021, at the Stockton LDS Chapel, 405 N. Connor Ave., with viewing prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. A night viewing will be held Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Tate Mortuary,110 S. Main Street in Tooele.

Obit Jake JaramilloJoaquin “Jake” Jaramillo passed away at the U of U Hospital on Jan. 19, 2021. Dad was born in Edith, Colorado, to Rafael and Elviria Duran Jaramillo. As a child he loved to act and was given the lead roles in school plays. He also loved riding horses bareback with his three-legged dog close by. Dad was always a hard worker, working in the mines at the age of 14. When the mine inspectors would come around, he would have to be hid so he wouldn’t lose his job or get the mining company in trouble. At the age of 18 he left Colorado and got a job with Tooele Army Depot where he stayed until he retired in 1979. During his years there he earned many awards for inventions that were implemented and are still in use today. He always kept two jobs to provide for his family which was always his top priority. Dad made many lifelong friends at his many jobs, Satisfaction Center, Tooele Transcript Bulletin, Allen’s Food Town, Tooele City Police Department, and Allied.

In 1954 he married the love of his life Florila “Flori” Lopez Jaramillo. They were together until her untimely death in 1981. There wasn’t a single day that went by that Dad didn’t think of Mom. Dad’s dream was to have his own business and in 1989 he opened J & J Jewelry. He loved going to work but especially loved the later years when his best friend, his son Rick, was able to join him. They worked together until his death.

Dad had many hobbies: bowling, golfing, but he especially loved to fix things and it was often said by many “If Jake can’t fix it, then it can’t be fixed!” He was a very good mechanic and always took very good care of his vehicles. Dad made beautiful leather crafts and each of us had our own personalized leather belts and wallets. He loved his cows, horses, farming, and ranching. But his most favorite was spending time with his family, his great-grandkids, and our Sunday dinners. Those dinners he was always so thankful for.

He was a devout Catholic and rarely missed a Sunday. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus, 4th degree level. We called Dad the “Bionic Man” because no matter what he went through, surgeries, amputations, quadruple bypass, he just kept on going. We thought we’d have him forever! We’ve lost our hero, mentor, best friend and OUR LIGHT, and our lives will never be the same. We take comfort in knowing he has joined our mom and for the first time in forty years he is truly happy again.

Jake was so proud to be an American, and to live in the USA. He always flew a flag, and when it got tattered he would religiously replace it.

A funeral mass will be held Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021, at St. Marguerite Catholic Church for family only. A public viewing and rosary will be held Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021, at Tate Mortuary. Rosary from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Viewing from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m.

Jake is survived by his three children Rick Jaramillo, Arlene Reeder and Crystal Romero; four grandchildren Desiree Romero, Keaton Romero, Carlos Romero and Zach Jaramillo; six great-grandchildren Lexi Jaramillo, Kyrian R. Jaramillo, Cameron Jaramillo, Quintin Romero, Tempi Jaramillo and Brantly Gnora; one brother Fred Jaramillo (Mary); and many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Rafael and Elviria Jaramillo; and siblings Mike Jaramillo, Becky Mobley, Ralph Jaramillo, Joe Jaramillo and Horace Jaramillo.

Our hearts are full of love for Dad’s guardian angel here on earth Dr. Nita Weber. Without her we never would have had Dad as long as we did. She is truly our sister. We would like to give a special thanks to Father Rafael, Bill White, Debbie McManaman, Julia, and the church choir for all their help. We also want to thank the staff at Tate Mortuary for their compassionate care.

Obit LaDonna H. Matekel 1Our dear mother, grandmother and friend left us peacefully Jan. 21, 2021, with loved ones near. No earthly words can describe our love for her and the way she loved us in return. She taught us to enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

Obit LaDonna H. Matekel 2LaDonna was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Nov. 10, 1934. Her parents were Arvilla and Ray Hansen.

She graduated from Tooele High School and attended Brigham Young University. She married a wonderful young man, Louis J. Matekel (Shiek), in 1959. Their marriage was later solemnized in 1992 in the Frankfurt Germany Temple. They had three children they loved, supported and treasured. Mom often spoke of the pride she had for her children and grandchildren who had studied long and hard to be successful.

Our mom enjoyed music and was very gifted. She could tap dance, sing, and play the violin, organ and piano. Her passion and love for music was felt with every note. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she shared her talents through various church callings. Our mother had a strong testimony of our Savior and served him well.

She worked many years for the Tooele County School District where she held various positions, but her favorite was that of secretary at East Elementary. She lovingly nurtured and cared for each child.

LaDonna is survived by her son Bob (Shellie) Matekel of Puyallup, Washington; daughter Linda (Frank) Kimball of Tooele; and daughter-in-law Glenna Matekel of Tooele. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ashley (Andrew) Graff, Ryan (Taylor) Matekel, Jordan (Hanna) Matekel, Connor Matekel, Dallen Kimball and Rose Kimball; her step grandchildren: Audrey Elton and Kelly (Jodi) Elton; six great-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.

LaDonna was preceded in passing by her beloved husband, parents, grandparents and son Ron.

Mom was a very special person who touched everyone who knew her. She was very generous and gracious. She was known for her giant hugs and enjoyed sending surprise gifts and treats to her family near and far. She had a clever way with words and was often complimenting or thanking others through hand written notes. Her life centered around her family, her “big dogs,” and BYU basketball.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021, at 11 a.m., in the Tooele 4th Ward Chapel, 192 W. 200 South in Tooele. Interment will be in the Tooele City Cemetery.

Obit John Gillette GilbertJohn Gillette Gilbert, 69, passed away peacefully Jan. 23, 2021, in Salt Lake City, Utah, following a tragic accident.

He was born June 23, 1951, in Texarkana, Arkansas, to Kathryn Francis Gillette and John Noble Gilbert. He spent the first few weeks of his life in Texarkana, where his father was stationed with the Army, before the family returned to Utah. John and Kathryn later divorced, and both remarried, Kathryn to Myron K. Berryman, and John to Esther Alice Henson (nee Roach). John G. was sealed to John N. and Esther in the Provo Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a young adult.

John grew up primarily in Tooele and graduated from Tooele High School in 1969. After high school, he attended the University of Utah, majoring in history, before leaving to serve a two-year mission in Hong Kong.

He married Catherine Geary in the Salt Lake Temple on Aug. 24, 1973, and they would go on to have six children. He was devoted to his family and worked hard every day of his life to provide for them.

In 1979, the family relocated to California, where John pursued a Mortuary Science Certificate at Cypress Community College, graduating in 1982. His career as a funeral director spanned nearly 40 years. Later, he earned a bachelor of arts in 2005, and a master of arts in 2008, both in history, from California State University, Bakersfield. Over the years, he and Cathy lived in Wyoming, Utah, California, Nevada, and Arizona before they retired to his hometown of Tooele. After retirement, he served a second mission at the Church History Library in Salt Lake City.

In addition to his two missions, John served in many callings in the church, including High Priest group leader, Cubmaster, and ward membership clerk, and he was especially proud of his work as the ward financial clerk in the Tonopah Nevada Ward.

John had a tremendous love for the written word. He considered himself a “bibliophile” and collected hundreds of books in his lifetime. He also had a deep fascination with world history, and a particular fondness for the history and culture of Asia. He also indulged in many passion projects, which regularly awed and amazed his friends and family, such as beekeeping, playing the drums, rebuilding an antique player piano, constructing a large koi pond, raising peacocks, and various entrepreneurial ventures.

John is survived by his beloved wife Cathy of Tooele; daughter Jennifer (Mark) Woolsey of Bakersfield, California; sons John (Kristy) Gilbert of Tooele, Jaren (Kathryn) Gilbert of Bakersfield, Joshua (Jessie) Gilbert of West Jordan, and Jacob of Tooele; brothers James (Peggy) and Jerry (Marilyn) Henson; sisters Michele (Reid) Wagner, Jeanette Johnson, and Connie Richins; 21 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Esther Gilbert and Kathryn and Myron Berryman, a daughter Jamie Lynn Gilbert, and brothers Stephen and David Henson.

Services will be held Thursday, Jan. 28, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Pinehurst Building in Tooele. Interment will be in the Tooele City Cemetery. The family thanks the Tooele Police and Fire Departments for their dedicated help and concern, and the University of Utah Burn Center for compassionate care during John’s final days.

Obit F. John Vorwaller 1Dec. 5, 1948 – Jan. 25, 2021

F. John “Ferd” Vorwaller, 72, of Elko, Nevada, died Jan. 25, 2021, in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by family. He was born Dec. 5, 1948, to Margaret Ella Sifford.

Obit F. John Vorwaller 2John attended Tooele High School and graduated in 1967. After high school he attended Weber State for two years. On typical Friday nights John could be found at 9-mile, racing muscle cars and dodging the reds and blue.

John married the love of his life, Valory Gordon on July 16, 1972, at the 5th Ward in Tooele, Utah. Together they welcomed four children into their lives and never stopped moving from that point.

Working hard for his family, John was employed by Mike’s Sinclair prior to his hard rock mining career at Mercer that began in 1973. The seemingly constant busy lifestyle of coaching his girls softball, entertaining neighborhood kids and running his children to and from every activity never yielded a dull moment. John’s sheer love for his wife and children could be seen and felt by anyone knowing the Vorwallers.

In 1996, after 23 years of mining at Mercer, John was offered to relocate to Elko, Nevada, and work for Barrick Goldstrike. While employed at Barrick, John worked in the warehouse on surface and underground where he and his co-workers engaged in productive yet humorous ways to pass the 12-hour shifts; until retiring in 2013.

Never slowing his pace; in retirement John could be easily found at all family functions. He spoiled his grandchildren rotten. He was constantly finding cars for Jayden, listening to Cory play the piano, attending Gavin’s football games, attending Madison’s chorus events or Alexandria’s junior football games. For the last six years, Papa John was the number one fan for his daughter’s softball team, The Honey Badgers. In John’s downtime his laughter could be heard by all as he watched the Golden Girls or listened to the silly stories his children and grandchildren told him. Or you could find him driving, a little too fast, his prized Chrysler 300 while jamming out to Patsy Cline. He was a man who exemplified putting his family first and loved his family to the depths of his soul.

Up until his death he remained close with Robert and Kathy Vorwaller. He often could be found spending time in Utah with Margie and Denny Morgan, whom he loved dearly. Margie was by far one of his most favorite people.

John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Valory; three daughters and one son Amy Vorwaller, Rebecca Vorwaller, Jennifer (Nikkayla Simon) Vorwaller, and William (Jennifer Smith) Vorwaller; five grandchildren Cory (Emily Anderson) Vorwaller, Gavin Vorwaller, Madison Brown, Alexandra Brown and Jayden Simon; numerous cousins; several nieces and one nephew; and numerous adopted children, including John Daly and Glen Wheeler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Robert and James Peck, and one sister Lillian R. Peck.

A celebration of life will be planned at a later date due to COVID restrictions.

Memorial donations may be made on John (Ferd-Dog) Vorwaller Go Fund Me account: www.gofundme.com/f/john-ferddog-vorwaller-memorial-fund?qid=0d0a6c405d5fa40c174504f523994bb8

He ran cross country his senior year of high school. After graduation Jayden worked at Pro-Pack Distribution with Fernando Vasquez, one of his best of many friends. Jayden’s fascinations included: Star Wars, Marvel, dinosaurs, cars and gaming. He also loved clothes and shoes (which he had more of than his mom). Wherever he went, Jayden brought the party and helped everyone feel love and laughter.

Jayden loved going on any Boy Scout adventures, especially the Black Hole. Barbara Joan Crebs Carlson

Obit Barbara Joan Crebs CarlsonBarbara Joan Crebs Carlson slipped peacefully from this life and joyfully joined her dear Roy in eternity Jan. 23, 2021, in Gilbert, Arizona.

This tiny lady was born 93 years ago to Robert and Vera Crebs.

When Joan was thirteen she made a decision to “Go to church and make new friends. That decision changed my life!” This simple decision impacted the lives of her brother and parents and, indeed, all of her posterity. She was an influential leader and teacher in her wards and stakes and on their mission to the Independence Missouri Visitors Center and Kansas City inner city. We will praise her forever for living the gospel, loving God and showing us how to serve Him and others.

At his mother’s invitation, Roy started dating Joan. It did not take long for them to become close friends and after dating for seven months, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple. Joan and Roy were a happy, outgoing couple, enjoying each other’s company and being with family and friends. Their love for each other grew throughout their 63 years of marriage — and will continue to grow for eternity.

Joan’s gift of organization was useful in her many jobs as bookkeeper, clerk and secretary in elementary schools and government offices. She was a dedicated employee, but always felt her greatest work and joy was with her family and within her home. Family was so important that she did not want to lose or forget the family’s stories and memories. She blessed her family by recording our history in photo albums for nearly 40 years.

Joan had a great love for her ancestors. Her father did not know his birth year, which she was able to find. She found extensive records of her Swiss and English ancestors back to the 1700s, which took many, many years. We are sure she is happily meeting her family now. The culmination of this service to her ancestors was traveling to Europe to see where they had lived. She traveled through three countries in two weeks, walking many miles daily and remained excited, energetic and cheerful… at age 79. What joy!

She and Roy prepared Monday night dinners for all of her grandchildren in Provo for 17 years. She loved having them visit and they were able to get to know each other. During those same years she lovingly cared for her parents and later for her dear husband.

Joan loved the beach, BYU sports, waterskiing, swing dancing, sewing and quilting, camping with their trailer, enjoying nature, and traveling to see family.

Joan’s life was given to Roy, her family and Heavenly Father. Her family is grateful for her steadfastness, sense of humor, and decision to be happy and grateful no matter what happened.

She is survived by four children: Susan (Arnel) Brown, Nancy (Bert) Brinton, Robert (Gaynelle) Carlson, and Leanne (Clay) Riding; 21 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Among those delighted to welcome her home are her parents Vera and Bob Crebs, her brother Richard Crebs, her grandson Chris Carlson, two great grandsons Liam Fairbanks and Ian Crabtree, and Roy’s mother whom Joan dearly loved Caroline Carlson.

Joan’s graveside service will be held Friday, Jan. 29, at 12 p.m., at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park & Mortuary, 3401 Highland Dr., Salt Lake City, Utah. Due to COVID, the graveside service will be short and we request masks be worn and social distancing practiced. The service will be recorded and available for on demand viewing. Condolences can be expressed at Wasatch Lawn’s website.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Humanitarian Service.

We want to thank her loving caregivers at Beehive Homes of Gilbert and the Canyon Home Care and Hospice for their great love, kindness and service to Mom.

Obit Michael Drue SchofieldMichael Drue Schofield, born Sept. 1, 1952, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Edgar Samuel Schofield and Helen Marr Cluff, passed away Feb. 3, 2021, of pancreatic cancer. Mike’s take on cancer was, “It’s like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.” He was raised by his mom and stepdad Wayne Buzzard, in Lake Point, Utah. He married Debra Gollaher on June 15, 1973, in the Salt Lake Temple and they were blessed with four fabulous children: Christopher (Emilia), Danielle (Cristian) Perez, Summer (Tony) Spinello, and Bryce (Karen). Mike and Deb have 16 fantastic grandchildren.

For many years Mike, along with his stepfather, ran a mink business in Lake Point. Mike fed, watered, cleaned, pelted, and cared for up to as many as 1,500 mink and their kits. After demand for mink fur declined, the family sold the business in 1974.

During summer breaks in high school Mike was employed at the Tooele smelter working on the slag line. After high school he attended a two-year electronics technical school in Phoenix, Arizona, and began working as a copier repairman for AB Dick. Later in his career he was hired by Heidelberg to repair and install large Heidelberg printing presses, Stahl paper cutters, and bindery equipment. Mike and Deb lived in Lake Point until 2003 when Heidelberg transferred Mike to their Kennesaw, Georgia, headquarters where they lived until 2007. Mike and Deb then moved back to Utah. Mike retired from Heidelberg in 2013 and started his own company, Wasatch Graph Tech, servicing and installing the same printers and cutters that he had worked on for over 35 years.

Mike served his community as a volunteer firefighter, EMT, and eventually Captain of the Lake Point Fire Station. His fellow volunteer EMTs and firefighters traveled many miles and helped many people in need along the I-80 freeway and sometimes almost to Wendover in Tooele County. He also served in the Boy Scouts and in 1993 attended Wood Badge training and completed all requirements.

Mike inherited his wonderful singing voice from his mother and he sang in many church choirs as well as a production of the Messiah. He took guitar lessons and was proficient with six and twelve-string guitars, enjoying many hours of practicing, playing, and singing with Lake Point friends. Learning carpentry from his stepfather and metalworking from high school, Mike remodeled his 70-year-old home. He then built his own workshops where he created and repaired many machine parts for his customers by hand. He was also a very skilled woodworker.

Mike served in many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His favorite calling was that of ward clerk. He also served as counselor in the bishopric of the Redwood Ward, maintaining dear friendships with whom he served. Mike leaves behind many family members, friends, and customers whom he loved and enjoyed being around.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother Helen, stepfather Wayne Buzzard, stepbrother Gary Buzzard, and sister Raellen Martinez.

The family would like to thank the doctors, physician assistants, and nurses at Utah Cancer Specialists for the loving care they provided Mike over the past two years. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Huntsman Cancer institute at huntsmancancer.org/giving/
