Elsie Rose Pacheco

Obit Elsie Rose PachecoAug. 30, 1953 – Dec. 7, 2020

Elsie Rose Pacheco was born into this world with all odds against her. Weighing only 3 pounds, she was placed in a size 10 shoe box and her family was told she may not live for very long; regardless, Elsie was never one who liked to be told what to do. She liked to make her own decisions and she chose to live a wonderful life of 67 years.

In those 67 years, Elsie brought joy and laughter to many friends and loved ones. She was witty, sassy, and the life of the party. Her family meant the world to her and she held a special relationship with every person she knew.

Elsie adored her big brothers and sisters. Throughout the years, after the passing of their parents, the siblings shared the responsibility of caring for her. All her numerous nieces and nephews were blessed to have Elsie in their lives and grew up with her bossing them around.

Some of Elsie’s hobbies throughout the years included walking almost every day to the old Arctic Circle and 7/11 on Broadway. She was always welcomed there and adored by everyone. She would spend hours writing letters to some of her favorite celebrity stars: Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, and Elvis. She loved to watch old Western movies, “the little house on the prairie” and often talked about “them Ingall’s Family.”

Elsie was very creative, and she often would pleasantly surprise others with her talent of creating and making little clothes for Barbies; even though, she mostly favored her Baby Dolls and more often than not, you would see her carrying her twin baby dolls around, taking care of them, and telling them to be quiet.

A few years in a row, Elsie had the opportunity to run the torch for the Special Olympics with her big brother Alex, during his time with the Salt Lake City Police Department.

Our Dearest Elsie, you will be greatly missed by your family and by the many people of Tooele, all who had the pleasure of knowing you. Elsie was like a small-town celebrity and she loved to be with those who loved her. We will miss her wittiness and quirky one liners she will forever be known for:

“five times”

“I can’t help it”

“stop it, you rascal”

“ahhh, cut it out”

Our Family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Mission Health Services in West Jordan, where Elsie lived for the past five years and was cared for. Thank you for loving her.

Elsie is survived by her brothers Alex (Debra) Pacheco and Robert Pacheco,

sister Josepha (Rueben) Pacheco. She was blessed with many nieces and nephews and countless friends in Tooele.

She was preceded in death by her parents Alberto and Margaret Pacheco, sister Orlinda Cordova, and brother Rueben Pacheco, along with several beloved nieces and nephews.

Obit Katherine McPhie GillespieOct. 6, 1934 – Dec. 16, 2020

Katherine Gillespie, 86, died peacefully Dec. 16, 2020, while residing at Our House Assisted Living in Tooele, Utah. She was born in Milton, Utah, Oct. 6, 1934. The following year she moved with her parents to Tooele and lived there most of her life. She was the daughter of Frederick Gideon and Florence Lavern (Criddle) McPhie.

In August 1952, she married Floyd John Gillespie in the Salt Lake Temple, and together they raised five children: Jimmy, Marsha, Rhonda, Lee, and Karen. Her family was her greatest joy. She wrote in her journal how she would like to be remembered. She wrote, “I hope my husband, children, grandchildren, and even my great-grandchildren know how much I love them; they are my whole life.” This was truly how she felt because she devoted her entire life to her family.

Katherine was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served many years in the Primary and Relief Society organizations. Her faith in Jesus Christ was unshakeable and she knew and understood the principles associated with God’s Eternal Plan of Happiness. She deeply appreciated the love and kindness shown to her by her bishops, neighbors, and ward members after her husband died in 2003.

Katherine will be remembered for having a loving heart and a keen sense of service. Her love was shown to anyone who needed help and even though she suffered from various health issues most of her adult life, including open heart surgery, Kate’s door was always open to anyone who needed a friend to talk to, a meal to eat, or a place to stay. She was often one of the first people to respond when someone needed assistance and she took whatever action was necessary to provide support to ease their burdens.

From the time Katherine was a young girl she loved the outdoors. Growing up she enjoyed camping and fishing with the McPhie clan in the canyons of Morgan County. The memories of those extended family gatherings remained vivid in her mind. Kate and Floyd spent many summer weekends with their children camping and hiking in Settlement Canyon.

Later in their marriage, Floyd and Katherine spent weeks at a time camping and fishing at Fish Lake, Utah; they had a trailer there. While there they met some wonderful people, who became their lifelong friends. As they grew older, to shield themselves from the cold Utah weather, and for their health, she and Floyd spent several months each winter in Arizona. They loved the warm weather and had good friends there, but they always returned to Tooele each summer.

Her service extended to the Tooele community where she was active in the Tooele Civic League, and for many years she chaired the Women’s March. Katherine also served as the Tooele County Deputy Clerk for 15 years. While serving as the Deputy Clerk she always ensured that her patrons were her priority. She had a reputation of being helpful, caring, and always had a welcoming smile on her face.

Kate was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Floyd, son Jimmy; granddaughter Jody; and great-grandson Kenai. Also preceding her in death was her sister Margie McPhie (Bill) Patton of Kearns, Utah; and two brothers Fredrick V. and Gerald C McPhie, both of Tooele. She is survived by her children Marsha of Payson, Utah; Rhonda (Mike) Larsen of Tooele; Karen of Tooele; Lee of Meeker, Colorado: brother Jack E. McPhie and wife Tina of Franklin, Idaho; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She enjoyed life to the fullest. It was unfortunate that the last few years of her life she was burdened by failing health that caused her move to assisted living. She lived in her home on Fairlane Drive in Tooele, for over 50 years and had many close friends and wonderful neighbors whom she dearly loved.

She requested that no services be held and instead of sending flowers please donate to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Katherine, God bless you. You got your invitation to join your Savior and loved ones in Paradise in heaven. Rest in Peace.

Later, she would always be waiting for her adult children and grandchildren to drop in to enjoy her wonderful cooking. Along with cooking (her tortillas were the Best!), she liked to crochet, travel, and go to Wendover. She was a member of St. Marguerite Parish.

Mom is survived by her husband of 25 years, Clovis, son Mike (Bonnie), daughter Gayla (Rick), son Bill (Patricia), and (son) Fr. Ken Vialpando; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Mom was preceded in death by her first husband Willie, daughter Gloria, and sons Brian and Art.

Due to COVID-19 and safety guidelines, the funeral mass is for family Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, at St. Marguerite Catholic Church, from 11:30 a.m. in Tooele. There will be a viewing held at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main St., Tooele, from 10 to 11 a.m. Please follow the COVID-19 guidelines and wear a mask. Obit Randy Charles AddyRandy Charles Addy, husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and friend passed away peacefully at his home in Grantsville Dec. 23, 2020. Several years ago, Randy suffered a workplace injury that ultimately was the beginning of the end for his health and life.

Randy was unique in every way, often described as a true gentleman and a man’s man. There wasn’t a river in the western United States he hadn’t fished and mule deer hunting, well let’s just say he was a little obsessed. Randy was an all-star football player for Tooele High School and a US Army Veteran.

Randy could do just about anything and always made sure whatever he was working on was better than new when he was finished. Randy was a true man of integrity and wouldn’t think twice about doing the right thing in any situation. Randy loved the outdoors and planned his life around being able to visit and explore new places.

Randy loved his wife of forty-seven years Carol, he thought Carol was his queen and treated her as such. Randy was on top of the world when he and Carol would travel together to far-off places. Randy loved his only son Casey and took him along on countless adventures to go hunting and fishing. Randy also loved his daughter-in-law Jenny and welcomed her into the family with open arms. Later in life the twinkle in Randy’s eyes became his grandchildren Amelia and Hunter. Randy was always a voice of reason and will be missed more than he ever imagined. Randy’s final resting place will be in New Harmony, Utah.

Obit Leonard Joseph StalliviereOn Dec. 31, 2020, Leonard Joseph Stalliviere, 67, passed away peacefully at home, with his loving wife Linda by his side.

Leonard was born Nov. 4, 1953, in Tooele, Utah. From a young age he was charismatic and had a great sense of humor. He joined the United States Army in 1971 and served in the Vietnam War. He loved the rodeo and riding his motorcycle. He was a devout father and avid hunter. He was grateful to pass on his passion for hunting to his sons, going together every year since they could walk. He was an extremely hard worker, even up until he passed. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 3 Union for most of his career. He spent many years working at Kennecott before going on the road pipelining. He worked all over the US while pipelining before retiring in 2016. While on the road for work, Linda and Leonard loved to hop on his motorcycle and explore some of the beautiful sights throughout our country. He was a devout Catholic and proudly served for many years in the Knights of Columbus. One of his most memorable days was when he married the love of his life Linda in a Catholic ceremony.

This past year Leonard was able to watch his granddaughter Hope be born, go on a few motorcycle rides with Linda, put an addition onto their home, give his daughter away at her wedding, and take one final hunting trip with his boys. He will be greatly missed but his family will cherish the memories that they have with him and find peace in knowing they will be reunited one day in God’s Heavenly Kingdom.

Leonard is survived by his wife Linda; children Matt Johnson, Rusti (Joe) Hardy, Trevor (Jennifer) Stalliviere, and Justin Stalliviere; stepchildren Jason (Cat) D’Avignon and Aimee D’Avignon; grandchildren Oakley Stalliviere, Hope Stalliviere, Emilia D’Avignon, and Adelaide D’Avignon; brother Norman (Dara) Stalliviere; sister Carlene (John) Clark; and his dogs Tanner and Jenny.
