Cheryll was born Oct. 31, 1947, in Benecia, California, the daughter of Dorothy and Jones Rose Jr. Cheryll’s greatest passion was her family, especially her grandchildren. She spent much of her life helping others, and was one of the sweetest, kindest souls to all those who were lucky enough to be in her life.
Cheryll’s family moved to Tooele, Utah, when she was a freshman in high school, where she met her husband and lifetime partner. In 1967, she married the love of her life, Howard Hammond. While living in Tooele, she had their first son, Bryon, and worked for the Tooele Army Depot. In 1972, they moved to Butte, Montana, where Cheryll worked for Montana Tech and had their second child, Mick. In 1980, they moved to Tonopah, Nevada, where Cheryll worked for the Nye County School District and made many lifelong friends. 1986 took them to Littleton, Colorado, where she wholeheartedly enjoyed the diverse restaurant choices and culture that the large city brought. Her final move was in 1993 to Winnemucca, Nevada, where she resided until her passing. Cheryll retired from the Humboldt County District Attorney’s office in 2008 after many years of assisting and helping community members through the Child Support Division, where her caring nature was always her greatest asset to others. After her retirement, Cheryll enjoyed traveling, participating as an active member of the NNATV and NNRC clubs and volunteering at and attending lunches daily at the Senior Center. Cheryll is survived by her husband, Howard Hammond; sons Bryon Hammond and Mick Hammond; granddaughters Courtney Hammond and Chelsie Hammond; daughter Angela Hammond; grandsons Cody Frederick and Brandon Frederick; sister Ramona Rose; brother Jerry (Lisa) Rose; many nieces and nephews and a number of other close relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy Rose and Jones Rose Jr.; her sister Karen Rose Eastburn Cato and her brother Randall Rose. A memorial service to celebrate Cheryll’s life will be held at First Baptist Church at 515 Garrison Street in Winnemucca, Nevada, on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow at the Winnemucca Senior Center.
