Obit Howard Everett DavisHoward Everett Davis passed away on November 18, 2014, joining his beloved wife, Margie Marie, and eldest son, Stephen Lee, who preceded him in death. He leaves behind two sons, James H. (Jennifer) Davis, and Howard McKay Davis, and two daughters, Ann (Mark) Hallows and Janine (Craig) Petersen, 33 grandchildren and 66 great-grandchildren. Howard was born on April 15, 1931 in Salt Lake City to Howard Heber and Mildred Everett Davis. Howard’s family was a railroad family and he lived in many small communities and outposts along the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. He had a profound love of trains, particularly the O’Malley Steam engine! Howard graduated from Tooele High School and attended Utah State and Brigham Young Universities. He married the love of his life and childhood sweetheart Margie Marie Brown on March 20, 1953. Howard and Margie lived, loved, laughed and served together for 60 years. Howard lived for family and especially his Margie. Howard played piano and was fond of filling his home with music. He loved building memories with his family playing games, going on vacations and taking Sunday afternoon car-rides. Family unity, love and fun surrounded him and his family throughout his life. Through the years, Howard was a faithful and devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved his church service and associating with the members in the wards and stakes in which he resided. He served in the North Central States Mission and often talked about the trials of ‘going without purse or script.’ His missionary companions remained his friends for the rest of his life. He had a strong testimony of the Church and established a gospel-centered home. Among the many callings he received, he was the High Councilman with caretaker responsibilities for the old Provo Tabernacle. He took great pride in that facility and attended many functions held therein. Howard was the Executive Director of Married Student Housing at Brigham Young University for many years. He was well known for his friendly disposition and positive work ethic. He often went out of his way to help young families overcome difficulties and get a good start in life. He started a grocery store in married student housing to help young families, operating it as a ‘break-even’ rather than profit-maximizing-enterprise. Howard will be deeply missed by family and friends. He leaves a boundless legacy with his family and those who knew him. His family invites you to join with them in a celebration of his life. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, November 24, 2014 at the Slate Canyon Chapel, 1540 East 800 South, Provo, Utah. Friends may call at the church Sunday, November 23, from 6-7:30 p.m. and Monday from 9-9:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Tooele City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent online at www.bergmortuary.com. As a family we would like to give our love and appreciation to Nina Liechty who helped to care for Howard while in his home. We are thankful for his Home Teachers: John Anderson and Leo Gramajo. We are also thankful for Monica his nurse, for her compassionate care of our Dad.
