Jean Hamatake, known affectionately as “Limey” to those who held her close to their hearts, passed away Aug. 21, 2023. Born Feb. 23, 1939, in the charming town of Dartford, United Kingdom, she was a spirited woman with a resilient heart. Jean had an enduring love for her family, and a penchant for standing up for those she saw being belittled. Her witty banter and unforgettable sassiness added flair to her role as a beloved bartender, making her a cherished figure within Tooele’s hospitality scene before her retirement.
A creature of habit, Jean found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Mornings found her savoring a warm cup of tea, her eyes pouring over the pages of the day’s newspaper. Her love for her family was unrivaled, with her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren being the stars in her eyes. Jean showed her unwavering support for her grandchildren’s sports events, dance competitions and her passion for baseball was known to all. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “It is not length of life, but depth of life.” Jean lived a life full of depth, filled with love, resilience, and spirited energy.
Jean is survived by her loving husband Richard, her son Kevin, daughter Lisa, and their spouses Connie and Dan, respectively; and her siblings Brian and Janice. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren Marcus, Brandon, Braydon, Emma, Abby, and Sam; and her great-grandchildren Boston, Lila, and Rai.
