Anthony (Tony) F Leonelli died at the age of 84. He was raised and lived in Tooele, Utah. He passed away Dec. 10, 2021, at his home.
Tony was born in Tooele on Nov. 3, 1937, to Joseph R. Leonelli and Mary L. Panunzio. He had two siblings, brother William (Billy) Leonelli and sister Louise Crumbie. Tony attended school in Tooele and married his sweetheart Sylvia Lukich on July 30, 1960. He lettered in high school wrestling, football, and golf. Tony was an avid golfer. Playing from an early age he went on to win the Oquirrh Hills Men’s Club Championship three times, the first being when he was a senior in high school. His favorite golfers were Arnold Palmer and Phil Mickelson. Tony was always a huge Notre Dame fan watching them play many times in person, but his highlight was being able to go back and watch them play at Notre Dame’s home field. He enjoyed many years watching the Utah Jazz play having season tickets for 28 years. He was a devout Catholic attending church at St. Marguerite where he spent many years helping the church community. Tony’s whole life was all about his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids — a man all about family. He was affectionately known as “Grandpa Tone” to many. He also stayed close through the years with many of his classmates.
Tony is survived by his wife Sylvia of 61 years; children Anthony (Joann) Leonelli, Mary Christine Leonelli, Joseph Leonelli. He also had 14 grandkids, 21 great-grandkids, brother, cousins, and many nieces and nephews; predeceased by his parents and sister.
