Obit Joseph Bruce CleggJoseph Bruce Clegg returned to heaven suddenly on Tuesday, May 19, in the evening, with his family by his side. Bruce was a fourth-generation rancher and his greatest accomplishment is his family. Born Feb. 28, 1947 to Howard and Zella Clegg, Bruce has been a lifelong resident of Tooele County and loved this valley. He attended Utah State University after Tooele High School and then returned home to marry his high school sweetheart and eternal companion Janice Talmadge on Sept. 12, 1969. Together they had six children, all of whom still reside in Tooele County. Bruce has been active in the sport of rodeo since age 12. He began working with the Bar-T rodeo company at the age of 16 and continued until 1989 when a farming accident occurred. At this time, he became a business owner and pursued other ranching endeavors. He was also an avid team roper and competed in many rodeo events. Then he hit the sawdust trail on numerous trail rides, treks and adventures, because as long as he was mounted on a 7C horse he was complete. He impacted countless lives with his selfless qualities and was an inspiration to many. Bruce was admired by numerous cowboys for his natural talent with a horse and in return, he treasured (sometimes laughed) every moment teaching and including those who wanted to ride. His western legacy and leadership will never be forgotten. His faithful service for the LDS church, including as ward bishop, influenced many souls and made him into an even more caring and trusting man. He was a member and past president of the Grantsville Soil Conservation, Tooele County Cattlemen’s Association and PRCA Rodeo. He was also a charter member of the American Land Council. In his most recent years he served as Tooele County Commissioner (2006-2014) and took pride in serving his community. His love for Tooele County drove his desire to serve his great county and the great state of Utah. He always said there is no better place than home and he will forever call Tooele County his home. Watching his children and grandchildren participate in their activities fulfilled him and he was their number one fan and toughest hero. It has been said of him, “His heart is as big as his lasso.” He is survived by wife Janice; and his children Amie and Bret Paulick, Wes and Heather Clegg, Camille and Mike Patch, Lareine and Craig Baker, Lindsay and Rion Sundloff, Adam “Sav” and Heather Clegg. He is also survived by 21 3/4 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom still live in Tooele County and participate on the family-run ranch. Bruce is preceded in death by his parents and brother James “Jim” and also survived by his brothers and sisters Marilyn, Marjorie, Dan and Bob and their families. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2015 in the Stansbury Park So. Stake Center on Interlochen Lane at 11 a.m. with a visitation from 9:30-10:30am. Prior to the funeral, there will be a viewing on Monday, May 25 at Tate Mortuary from 6-8 p.m. Following the funeral services we invite anyone who would like to join us for a horseback procession from the stake center to the Clegg home for one last ride with Bruce. From there we will proceed with burial services to take place at the Tooele City Cemetery. He’s now off on his next adventure, clearing the way as he hits the sawdust trail …
