Obit Dennis MilesOn the evening of March 27 at the Veterans Hospital, Dennis Miles passed away with his children and grandchildren by his side. Dad suffered most of his life from chronic medical problems and was unable to regain his health from a bout of pneumonia. Dad was born June 15, 1941, the second of five children to Lawrence (Dutch) and Dorothy Wheeler Miles. He grew up in Tooele, and at the age of 17 joined the United States Air Force. While being stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois, he met Faye Wilkins. They were married Aug. 1, 1959. Together, they traveled both stateside and abroad while Dad served his country and they started their family. After 11 years of service, Dad was honorably discharged. They returned to the Midwest, finally returning to Erda, Utah, where they finished raising five children and one granddaughter. Their children have blessed them with 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. From the time Dad was a little boy, he loved being outside with the animals. He loved raising chickens and rabbits. As he grew up, Dad learned to raise all types of livestock and the value of hard work. After settling in the Tooele area, Dad suffered a work-related injury that forced him into early retirement. Because of his knowledge of farming and livestock, Dad was able to take care of his family and teach them the value of hard work and taking care of your family without much extra. We learned from Mom and Dad that family is what counts, and how to work together to take care of each other. We were blessed as a family to spend time hunting, fishing and camping. We also spent time farming and raising livestock. Everything involved family. Mom and Dad’s greatest joy was their family. In their later years they were surrounded by children and grandchildren. The life lessons they taught us were realized by the love and devotion of their family. Dad is survived by his children Larry (Peggy), Sam (Martha), Lottie (Kent) Perkins and Dennis Jr. (Tina) and granddaughter Ashley (Shane) Cloward, as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one sister and three brothers. He is preceded in death by his wife Faye, daughter Vicky, granddaughter Cortney and great-granddaughter Brylee Ann. Family will be receiving guests on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Tate Mortuary from 6-8 p.m. As per Dennis’ request, there will be no services.
