Obit Wendell Paul DroubayWendell Paul Droubay, age 96, passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019. He was born to John Rowberry Droubay and Annie Shields Droubay on July 1, 1922, and grew up on the family farm in Erda, Utah. He was the eldest of six siblings.

As a boy, he was the instigator of numerous pranks, jokes, and fun. His growing-up years were happy, filled with love, hard work, and a foundation of faith that would stay with and serve him throughout his life.

As a teenager he met and began to date “the prettiest girl in town,” Geraldine Shields. They married in 1941. They are parents to four children: a stillborn daughter; Wendell Paul, Jr. (Kathleen) of Brigham City; Leslie, who lived but two days; and Richard Allen (Lynne) of Tooele. Dad is proud to claim eight grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren. His happiest moments were spent with his family, who love him dearly.

Dad was a life insurance professional, working for Metropolitan and then New York Life. He was the recipient of numerous awards and accolades for his tireless work in his chosen field. He loved his country, serving over many years in district political positions. And he loved the gospel of Jesus Christ, serving eagerly and faithfully in numerous callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including service as bishop of the Tooele 6th Ward, and as a member of the presidency of the Tooele Stake.

Dad and Mom loved to travel, journeying to locations throughout the United States, Canada, Hawaii and Europe. They served an 18-month mission to Austria where they supported a branch of the Church and fed the young missionaries, loving the Austrian people, and seeing some of the sights along the way. One of their favorite spots was Hebgen Lake in Montana where each summer for more than two decades they gathered with family for a week of fishing, sightseeing, and relaxation. They enjoyed Lake Powell in the heat of the summer and family Christmas gatherings during the holiday season. Dad loved the Lincoln automobiles he drove, and the boats he owned and towed thither and yon.

He is survived by his wife of 77 years, Geraldine; sons, Wendell (Kathy) and Richard (Lynne); grandchildren, Greg, Jeff, Kimberlee, Ryan, Mike, Chris, Kelli and Brian; by a whole bunch of great- and great-great-grandchildren; and by his beloved sister, Bertha (Dwight Clark).  He was preceded in death by his beloved parents; by siblings, Ruth, MerLynn, Bob and Kathleen; by his stillborn daughter and baby, Leslie. He has left his family a legacy of love, faith, service, hard work, and loyalty to God and country.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 28, at the Tooele Stake Center, 253 S. 200 East, at 11 a.m., with viewings Sunday evening, 6 to 8 p.m. at Tate Mortuary in Tooele, and Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.

Obit Suzanne Fern Edmunds Thompson 1Suzanne Fern Edmunds Thompson, age 73, passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, in Taylorsville, Utah. Obit Suzanne Fern Edmunds Thompson 2She was born to George F. Edmunds, Jr. and Beth Green Edmunds (Hansen) on Jan. 9, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the youngest of their two daughters. She and her beloved sister Claudia were very close. She spent most of her youth living in Salt Lake City and Spokane, Washington. She was in the first graduating class of Skyline High School in 1964. She attended Stevens-Henager College, earning a secretarial certification. She was sealed to the love of her life, Ronald E. Thompson, in the LDS Salt Lake Temple on Feb. 10, 1965. They were an example of everything a marriage should be and were best friends. We are sure mom and dad had a beautiful reunion after 13 years apart. Although she has courageously faced decades of illnesses — always positive and resilient throughout — her death was sudden and unexpected. Thankfully, she no longer must endure those pains. Now she can run, jump, smell any flower, enjoying the beauties of nature she loved so much. She will be dearly missed.

She was a devoted mother to her five children. She said being a mother was her greatest joy and accomplishment. She was proud to be a grandmother and great-grandmother. She gave unconditional love to all and helped all her children and grandchildren accomplish their goals on any road they traveled.

Suzanne was passionate for a myriad of things. She was a devoted member of the LDS church and had a dedicated love of genealogy. She was very artistic in many different mediums: crafts, painting, crocheting and more. Suzanne had an affectionate love for music throughout her life. She was able to bring her love of music to others by serving as a primary chorister for many years. She had a love for the theater which began in her childhood. That love was also passed onto the youth through being involved with stake roadshows; helping write plays and songs as well as direct. Suzanne was involved with youth and people of many ages; she was called “Mom” and “Grandma” by many whose lives that she touched. Suzanne enjoyed playing the guitar and adored singing. An amazing storyteller, she loved to laugh with a wonderful sense of humor.

Suzanne had a love of nature and animals. She volunteered at Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City, Utah, for 10 years. She served as president of the zoo’s docent counselors during some of those years. She loved educating children; bringing animals to schools to let them experience them first hand. She helped rehabilitate many birds of prey at the zoo and in her own home. She passed this love of animals and nature on to her children.

She is survived by her children, RonnaLee (Bill) Hesford, Ted Thompson, Annjanette Thompson, Claudia Thompson, Janice Thompson; grandchildren, Elise (Aaron) Pratt, Brent (Emily) Hesford, Jarod Lee; great-grandchildren, Grace Martinez, Damian Martinez; sister, Claudia (Sam) Kekauoha; nine nieces; three nephews; and her dog, Tika. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Ron.

A viewing will be held at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main St., Tooele, Utah, on Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Stockton LDS Chapel, 405 N.
