Obit Molly O MurrayMolly O Murray passed away at age 55 on Monday, April 23, 2018. She was born in Tooele, Utah, on June 7, 1962 to Jack E. Orton and Maxine L. Lougy.

She married Darby Levenhagen. They were later divorced. She married the love of her life, Wayne O Murray on April 3, 1987. 

She is survived by her mother, her brother Alex Orton (Tzezarina), and many nieces and nephews, along with four great nephews and nieces. 

Funeral services will be held at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main St., Tooele, on Saturday, April 28 at 1 p.m. 

Susan Laura Anderson Lee

Obit Susan Laura Anderson LeeOur darling sweet mother, grandma, aunt, sister, and friend called Slee, Susan Laura Anderson Lee, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018, after a courageous battle with uterine cancer. 

She was born Dec. 4, 1950, as the third oldest child of Lawrence and Ruth Anderson. She and her six siblings grew up in Tooele, Utah. After graduating from Tooele High School and spending some summers working for her aunt and uncle in Yellowstone, she married Jay Albert Lee of Grantsville on Oct. 16, 1970, and together they had four children. She became a widow in 1982.

All who knew her spoke only kind words of her and she never spoke ill of anyone. Hers was a life of service, selflessness and pure charity. Simply put, she went about doing good. 

She enjoyed playing the piano and playing the clarinet in the marching band. Swimming, reading books, cooking, watching “The Lord of the Rings,” “The Hobbit,” “Star Wars,” “Star Trek” and “Avenger” movies, as well as classic musicals, brought her great joy. She also delighted making her home a place of respite for many over the years.

She worked for a time at Tooele Army Depot and for 23 years at Tooele Title Company, where they were like her second family. She simultaneously spent years caring for her aging mother.

She was active in the LDS Church and served for many years in the Primary and Young Women’s Programs of the Grantsville 5th Ward.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Ray and sisters-in-law Angie Anderson and Janet Lee. 

She is survived by her siblings: Dana (Sharon), Richard, Steven (Natalie), Patricia (Steven) Turner and Kathryn Nunley; children Kenneth (Vicki), Carrie (Heri) Sutanto, Christine (Christopher) Johnson and Karen (Trevor) Crawford; and 10 grandchildren: Kelton, Taylor, Kayla, Benjamin, Hailey, Lauren, Tyler, Dillon, Brinlee and Audrey.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at the Grantsville West Stake Center, 115 E. Cherry Street, Grantsville, Utah.

A family visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30–10:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Tooele City Cemetery.

Criselda Crotilde Martinez Bernal

Obit Criselda Crotilde Martinez BernalCriselda Crotilde Martinez Bernal born April 18, 1946, in Cebolla, New Mexico, passed away suddenly on April 19, 2018, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Many of us knew her as Tilda, Chrissy or Criselda. We are happy she is no longer suffering. 

She is preceeded in death by her parents, Jose and Adelaida Martinez, and brother Chemo Martinez.  

She is survived by her six children: Berna (Chris) Sloan, Lebo (Taunya) Leyva, Christopher (Marcie) Leyva, Moses (Shannan) Oppenhein, Dustin (Crystell) Oppenhein and April Oppenhein; brothers, Steve Martinez, Edward Martinez and Freddy Martinez; sisters, Mayla Warr and Rita Sprague. She also had 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. 

Services will be held on Monday, April 30 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Marguerite’s Catholic Church, 15 S. 7th Street, Tooele.

Armani Alejandro Hutzler

Obit Armani Alejandro HutzlerArmani Alejandro Hutzler passed away peacefully in his mother’s arms on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. He was born at 4:26 p.m. and passed away shortly after at 4:48 p.m. that same day. 

There are no words to describe how much our “lil punk” will be missed. He is loved by so many people. 

Armani is the son of Tiana Hutzler. 

He is survived by his big sister Aleya Hutzler, great grandparents Alex and Maria Mondragon, Aunt Tasha and Uncle Zach, great Aunt Vivianne and Uncle Manny Jaramillo, and many more family members. 

Armani is now in the arms of his Grandma Tina Hutzler (Mondragon), Great Uncle Paul Mondragon and many family members that have passed along the way. 

We will be having a mass at St. Marguerite’s Catholic Church at noon. Friday, April 27, with a luncheon afterward.

Obit Tim G. HohmannTim G. Hohmann, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, April 21, 2018.

He was born Aug, 17, 1943, in Evanston, Illinois, to E.H. and Loretta Hohmann. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where, at the Pentagon, he met his sweetheart and eternal companion, Sharon Allred. They were married April 20, 1963. Shortly after, he was deployed to Vietnam, where he served one tour of duty as an air traffic controller. 

Upon his return home to the states, he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Upon leaving military service, he moved his family to Utah where he applied the training he received in the military, and at college, in the civilian sector, eventually becoming an electrical engineer — a successful career that he enjoyed for 45 years. 

He enjoyed golfing, going to the races, spending time with his family and traveling. He also loved serving in multiple church callings, especially those involving youth and children.

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

He is survived by his wife Sharon; sister Barb (Al) Bender; brother Richard; children Tracy (Ron) Crane, David (Stephanie), Scott (Shellie) and Troy (Dori) Hohmann. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

There will be a viewing Thursday, April 26 from 6-8 p.m. at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main St., Tooele. Funeral services will be Friday, April 27 at the LDS 11th Ward building, 180 S. Coleman, Tooele, with a viewing from 10-10:45 a.m. and services at 11 a.m. Interment at the Tooele City Cemetery.

Obit Mary Ann Jonsson Young“I’m just going Home …”

Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Mary Ann Jonsson Young, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2018, after years of being restricted in movement due to extreme back pain. She was born in American Fork, Utah, to John F. and Catherina Latare Jonsson on April 19, 1930.  

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, James (Bud) Young, and oldest son, G. Allen Young (Sharon Young Emery). Bud and Mary were married June 21, 1947, in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 1962 their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She is survived by daughter Frances (Robert) Ripley and son David J. (Joann) Young. 

Mom always said, “the grands are grand and the greats are great.” Her grandchildren are: Grandson Blake (Anya) Young, children Claire, Hank and Bridget; granddaughter Charlotte (Bryan) Coester, children Macy, Keller, Campbell and Bennett; granddaughter Melanie Young; grandson Gregory S. Hamilton; granddaughter Amy (Michael) Canning, children Sarah Elise and Katherine Grace; granddaughter Anna (Jon) Utley, children River, Cole and Luke; grandson Joseph D. Hamilton; granddaughter Emily Hamilton, children Nolan and Michael; step-grandson Rob (Sheridan) Ripley, children Devon, Carson and Bryson; step-granddaughter Kirsten (Ben) Jacobson, children Trevor, Ethan, Harrison, Bridger, Taiya, Brinley and Taft; step-granddaughter Lindsay H. Ripley; granddaughter Christy Jean Young (deceased); grandson Jonathan (Stephanie) Young, children Alexandria (Jonathan) Brown; great-great grandchild Isabelle Jane; granddaughter Angela (Wade) Perry, children Jacob Alan, Kaelyn Elizabeth and Tanner James; granddaughter Amanda (Mike) Marshall, children Lilly Grace and Emma Rose; and granddaughter Elizabeth Young, child Quinn David.

Learning and education was always important to Mom. She attended schools in American Fork, Tooele High School and Utah State University. Service was a part of her nature.  She served in a Relief Society Presidency, as Primary President and as Young Women’s President twice. Mom and Dad served as Service Missionaries and as Ordinance Workers at the Salt Lake Temple for many years. Mom enjoyed her career as Supervisor of the Tooele County School Foodservice Program. Her hobbies included a personal quest for the “next” recipe to try. She had a lifelong love affair with books and enjoyed her membership in The Bathtub Readers Book Club. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting. Even though Mom and Dad traveled extensively making new memories together, they always looked forward to returning home.  Now, they are Home together again.  

The family would like to express gratitude for the many acts of kindness extended to Mom from members of the Third Ward, her attentive aids and staff from Home Instead Senior Care and her compassionate Harmony Home Health hospice nurses.

Visitation will be from 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to funeral services at 12 p.m. on Friday, May 4, at the Third Ward, 141 W. Utah Ave., in Tooele City. Interment Tooele City Cemetery.

 

Jerry Nelson Mascarenas

Obit Jerry Nelson MascarenasOur beloved brother, son, uncle, father and grandfather, Jerry Nelson Mascarenas, 61, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018. He was born Nov. 16, 1957, to Nelson Mascarenas and Lorna Diaz of Tooele, Utah. He loved spending time with his family, especially his kids and grandkids. His hobbies were working on cars, motorcycles, going camping and hunting. 

He is survived by stepfather Johnny Diaz Sr.; brothers, Paul Mascarenas, Johnny Diaz Jr., Jody Diaz (Gina), LeRoy Diaz (Kolette) and Johnae Diaz; sisters, Edna Diaz (Chad), Angela Beltran (Daniel), Monica Martinez (Moses) and Kristie Gonzales (Chuy); children, Tina Martin (Shane), Lucas Mascarenas (Tina), Emilio Mascarenas, Andrea Johnson and Consuela Leafty (Lorel); 10 grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his father Nelson Mascarenas, mother Lorna Diaz, little sister Amelia Mascarenas and grandparents. 

Funeral service will be held Thursday, May 3, at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main, Tooele, Utah. Viewing will be 9:30-10:45 a.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Following the funeral, interment will be at Tooele City Cemetery, 361 S. 100 East. The family would like to invite everyone to the LaRae & Shirley Event Venue, 30 W. 100 South, Tooele, Utah, after the graveside service.

Obit Rachel Elizabeth TsoRachel Elizabeth Tso passed away on Friday, April 27, 2018, from injuries sustained in a car accident. Rachel will always be remembered by her parents, James and Julia Vigil; brothers, Mathew and Gabriel Vigil; father Andrew Tso; grandparents, Martin and Susan VanNood, Joe and Janice Semas, Imelda Tso, and Dennis and Henrietta Vigil; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial visitation will be held at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main St., Tooele, Utah on Thursday, May 3, from 7-8:30 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, May 4, at St. Marguerite Catholic Church at 11:30 a.m.

Memorial donations in memory of Rachel Tso may be made to “The Brain and Behavior Research Foundation.”

 

Jean (St. Jeor) Rush

Beloved wife, mother, Dearest Friend and Grandma Jean to many, peacefully joined her husband, parents and brother on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, surrounded by those who cherished her. She was 89 years young.

Born Sept. 20, 1928, to Mick and Wanda St Jeor, Jean worked at Dugway Proving Ground and retired. For the last 17 years she faithfully supported the Tooele County/ Valley Food Bank as a receptionist. She was the first person to greet you as you came in and always left everyone with a lasting impression. Jean’s smile was her greatest asset along with her wit.

If Jean was your friend, you were a friend forever.

A memorial service will be held May 11 at the Tooele City Cemetery at 11 a.m.

Twila Porter, of Pine Canyon, Utah, passed away at her home Monday morning with her two daughters Linda and Cathy by her side. Her children and extended family had gathered prior to her passing and were blessed to say farewell to their wonderful mother and grandmother. We are comforted with the knowledge that she is now with the love of her life, Jerry, who preceded her in death eight “long” years ago. She was blessed with good health throughout her life and enjoyed a wonderful life with her sweetheart Jerry.  

Twila came to Tooele Valley with Jerry and four young children in the early 1950s and settled in Pine Canyon. She worked at Tooele Army Depot and Dugway Proving Ground. Upon Jerry’s retirement in the late 1970s, they became “Snow Birds” and spent their winters in Yuma, Arizona, enjoying the warm winter season to the fullest. After Jerry’s death in 2010, she continued to go to Yuma for the winters with her two daughters and their husbands. During the summers she enjoyed volunteering at Tooele Valley Railroad Museum with her lady friends. She loved to travel with these same friends and enjoyed water aerobics and the lunches that followed.  

She is preceded in death by her husband Jerry and four grandchildren: Camille Daly Stacy, Jamie Porter, Wendy Lougy Henrikson and Troy Lougy.

She is survived by five children and one sister: Linda (Roger) Lougy, Steve (Patsy) Porter, Cathy (Jerry) Overstreet, Gary (Lisa) Porter, and Rich (Phyllis) Porter; sister Doris Chatman; 13 grandchildren, numerous great- grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a viewing at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main, Tooele, on Saturday, May 5 from 10:30-11:45 a.m. followed by a memorial service in the Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be at Tooele City Cemetery.

Obit Melissa Lynn PyneMelissa Lynn Pyne left this earth Monday, April 30, 2018. She was born on Feb. 13, 1977.

Melissa married Ryan Whitehouse and was blessed with a stepdaughter and two sons. They were later divorced. She married Austin Peters and was blessed with three more stepchildren and two more children of her own.

She was a daughter, sister, loving wife and mother. She was loved by many.

She is survived by her husband Austin Peters; her children, Preston Whitehouse (McKaylee McLaws), Braydee Whitehouse, Kambrya Peters and Lyncoln Peters; stepchildren Saige W. Page, Alexis, Mason and Kobe Peters, all of whom she loved dearly; her loving parents Roland and Holly Pyne; siblings Ashley Pyne (Amy), Kristina Jordt (Levi) and Cassi Moore (Greg); grandparents Mervin Pyne, Sally Rhodes and Arlan Rhodes; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her grandma, VaNeta Pyne, whose loving arms she will be placed in, and her cousin Dustin Pyne.

For those reading this, hug your children, love them with all you have, because when they leave this earth all they take with them is the love they were given.

There will be a luncheon on Saturday, May 5 at the Tooele 4th Ward, 192 W 200 S, at 12 p.m. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Tooele City Cemetery.

Obit Donna L. CunninghamBorn on Sept. 11, 1930, to Hazel Hammond and James P. Madsen, Donna Louise Madsen Cunningham left this earth on Sunday, April 29, 2018, to be united with the love of her life, Allen L. Cunningham. Also waiting for her was her daughter Betty and a grandson who preceded her in death. Although the family she left behind will miss having her, the family that was waiting there is celebrating with her now. She was 87 years old.

Donna was a waitress at Delle for several years, and worked at Tooele Army Depot until her retirement. She was always a wife, a mother and a grandmother. She had a great love of family, she was a good friend, and had a spirited sense of humor.

She is survived by her children Allen (Cindy) Cunningham, Gregory Cunningham, Gary Cunningham, and Pamela (Curtis) Butler; brothers Kenneth Madsen and Wayne (Cindy) Madsen; sisters Connie Sutherland and Maxine (Bud) Bolinder; 17 grandchildren, 34 great- grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren with two more on the way.

Graveside services, or a “drive by” as Donna called it, will be held at the Grantsville City Cemetery on Friday, May 4 at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations toward funeral expenses can be made in Donna Cunningham’s name at Chartway Credit Union in Grantsville, Utah.

Obit Sarah Lewis KerrSally Lewis Kerr passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, May 1, 2018.

She is survived by children Richard, Debra (Ben) Enriques, Glen (Mary) and LuAnne (Lee) Galpin; 18 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren; brother Arthur Lewis and sister Karen Manzanares. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Loren A. Lewis and Katherine V. Delgardo; brother George Lewis; and three grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 7 at White Pine Chapel, 751 N. 520 East, Tooele. Visitations will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 6 at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 W. 2700 South, Magna, and 10-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. The family would like to thank the hospice team. James Gale Oviatt

Obit James Gale OviattJames Gale Oviatt, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed from the loving arms of his family through the veil into the waiting arms of his parents, Lamon and Eva Oviatt, on Monday, April 30, 2018.

Jim was born in Price, Utah, on Dec. 22, 1945, to Lamon and Eva Oviatt. He grew up in Tacoma, Washington, and served a two-year LDS mission in the Western States. Afterwards, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he was honorably discharged in 1972. After his service to the country, Jim attended Brigham Young University, which is where he also met his loving wife, Glenna. They were sealed in the Manti Temple on May 16, 1974. 

Jim lived his life serving others. He always had a smile and a joke for everyone he met. He lived his life the way the Savior taught: Love one another. His faith in the gospel is a great example to his family he has left behind. He will be deeply missed by everyone he met.  

Jim is survived by his wife of 43 years, Glenna; his three children: Lisa Sullivan, Shawn Oviatt and Wendy Oviatt; his brother, Lamon Oviatt Jr; his sister, Kay Martin; and his five grandchildren: Nick, Ben, Javan, Jayden and Savannah. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 4 at 11 a.m. at the Tooele North Stake Center, 580 N. 270 East, Tooele. There will be a public viewing Thursday, May 3 from 6-8 p.m at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main, Tooele. There will also be a viewing at Tooele North Stake Center from 9:30-10:45 a.m. on May 4 prior to funeral services.

 

Frances Garcia

Obit Frances GarciaFrances E. Garcia passed away peacefully, May 4, 2018, after a long battle with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, which had its many challenges throughout her life. She was born on March 16, 1956, to Joe and the late Cora Candelario Garcia in Tooele, Utah. She graduated from Tooele High School in 1974. 

She married Ron Romero in August 1973 and later divorced. She was blessed with three sons: Ron (Amy) Romero, Anthony (Karen) Romero and Nicholas Romero; and daughter Rechelle Romero, whom she had the opportunity to raise into a beautiful young woman. 

She is also survived by her father Joe; three brothers, Rick (Karen) Garcia, Anthony (Terri) Garcia and Greg (Ramona) Garcia; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all of whom she was deeply fond of. 

She worked at Smiths for years, as well as at the Tooele County Courthouse for many years until her health no longer allowed her to continue to work. 

She truly lived life through simple pleasures, raising her children, chatting with friends and family, and spending any time she could with her grandchildren. She created such wonderful memories with each and every one she has touched. 

There will be a Funeral Mass at St. Marguerite Catholic Church, 15 S. 7th Street, Tooele, on Thursday, May 10 at 11 a.m. with a visitation prior from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be at the Tooele City Cemetery. 

We’d like to extend a special thank you to Rocky Mountain Care and Mountain West Medical Center for the special care given to Frances.

Obit Marilyn J. Gowans1946 – 2018

Marilyn J. Gowans, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, finished a life of love and service to family and friends, and is free of pain. She joined her mother, grandson and other loved ones.

Her greatest joy was her family and friends. The more they were around, the happier she was — when she was not in Wendover.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Keith Gowans. They were married in the temple in 1991. And survived by daughters, Jodee (Mike) Lester and Dixie (Dan) Patterson; son Scott (Emily); nine grandchildren: Michael, Russel!, Jeremy, Emily, Andrew, Nikki, Grayson, Danielle and Josey; seven great-grandchildren: Marcus, Tripton, ember Lee, Xavian, Adrian, Jackson, Kylar; sisters, Arlene (Dave) Herrera and LaVon Chaffinch; and nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at 1 p.m. in the Tooele City Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Dalton-Hoopes Funeral Home, 50 W. Main, Grantsville.

Obit Vicky Lynn AndersonVicky Lynn Anderson Argyle passed away peacefully at her home in Rush Valley on May 15, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 5, 1945, to Calvin Olif Anderson and Vivian Marita Iverson. She grew up in Garland, Utah, with her parents, three brothers (Calvin Oneil, Doug and Mart) and one sister (Voris).

She married Jim Argyle on March 8, 1965, and was a devoted wife and mother. After she married they moved to Rush Valley where she spent the remainder of her life. She enjoyed the peace and quiet of living in a small community and the opportunities she had to spend time with her family in the outdoors.

She enjoyed going to yard sales, collecting perfume bottles and had a special talent for embroidery. She loved to spend time with her family traveling, hunting, having a picnic in the desert, or just going for a ride on the Rhino to enjoy the scenery and smell the flowers.

She loved her family and will be deeply missed for her kindness, loyalty and the devotion she had for her friends and family. 

She is survived by her husband, Jim Argyle; sons, Dave (Laurie) Argyle and Larry Larsen; and daughter Debbie Argyle.

She was preceded in death by son William (Judy) Argyle, her parents and her siblings.

At her request a brief graveside service will take place at the Clover Cemetery, Johnson Lane, Rush Valley, on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. followed by a luncheon at the LDS Church in Rush Valley.
