Obit Nancy Eileen ButlerNancy Eileen Butler finished her 15-month battle against colorectal cancer on June 8, 2016, at her home in Grantsville, Utah. She was 45. Nancy was a strong fighter, and she fought that terrible disease with courage until the end. Once it seemed obvious her battle was winding down, she left us quickly and peacefully in her sleep and returned to our Heavenly Father to be reunited with her Mother and other very dear loved ones. To us, her life, and her death, exemplified the words, “When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live.” Nancy was born on March 17, 1971, to Jessie Albert Butler and Peggy Jean Baker in Murray, Utah. She spent the majority of her childhood in the Tooele and Grantsville areas and graduated from Tooele High School in 1989. Nancy entered the Job Corps where she trained in health occupations and was selected out of 1,400 students to be an ambassador to Washington, D.C. Nancy was a beloved and special member of so many families, from her time growing up in a house full of siblings with whom she could share the blame for all the crazy things they dreamed up together when they were left alone, to her special connection with her aunts and uncles who she loved as sisters and brothers, to being a kind and generous aunt to so many nieces and nephews who always knew that they could count on her for a hug and a gift, she shared a life of love and laughter with so many. Nancy loved to read, color and spend time with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with all of her nieces and nephews and all of the children in the family. She was undoubtedly the favorite aunt and she always had her way of making them feel so special and loved. She would call them often and on all of their birthdays and holidays, call with reminders when their favorite cartoons were on, spend hours coloring and playing games with them and always holding them and making them feel so loved. Aunt Nancy will always be known as the greatest aunt ever. She was preceded in death by her mother Peggy Jean Erickson; grandparents; cousin Krystal Fonger and many aunts and uncles. Nancy is survived by her father Jessie Butler; her stepfather Ronald Erickson; brother Jesse (Barbara) Butler; sister Shannon (Paul) Wimmer; brother Joseph (Marci) McAllister; brother Martin McAllister; stepbrother Jody (Laurie) Erickson and stepsisters Windy (Trinidad) Garcia, Dawn (Troy) Finley and Ericka (Greg) Jordt. She is also survived by her dear friend Don Sanborn and her many nieces and nephews. Her family would like to extend a special thanks to all of the volunteers, staff, nurses and doctors at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. They were all extremely kind and compassionate and we are forever grateful for the facility and all of the amazing people there. Also to her home health nurses who she appreciated so much. Just like the lighthouses that Nancy loved we know she will continue to be there for us during our darkest times as a steady shining light of love and guidance. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2016, at Tate Mortuary at noon with a viewing one hour prior.

Marcelle was born Sept. 20, 1918, in Paris France to Henriette Bouvet and Albert Taleuar. As World War II came to an end, Marcelle married the love of her life Charles Lance in Paris and left her home to join her husband in the United States. Marcelle adored her beloved poodles and although she had no children of her own, she helped raise quite a few. As a child, Marcelle performed in Paris with the famous children’s opera and caught the travel bug at the age of 17 when she was called to be a nanny in Helsinki, Finland. In her lifetime, she traveled to 43 countries within Africa, Asia, South America, Polynesia, Europe from Morocco to Bora Bora. Her final trip was at age 85 to Antarctica. Marcelle enjoyed entertaining and preparing fine meals with a flair of elegance. Marcelle enjoyed dressing fashionably and was a seamstress and made all of her own clothes with attention to the finest detail, which included knitting, embroidery and crochet. She was awarded many first-place ribbons at the county and state fair for her abilities. After 71 years in the United States, her nails were as strong and beautiful as her French accent. Marcelle was an example of dignity and gracious living. We will remember her gratitude, love and her feisty approach to life. We are deeply grateful for the love, attention and service of all the caretakers who allowed Marcelle the ability to keep her dignity and independence until her last page was closed. Obit Linda Sue Ramos Barney“Suzy” or “Sue”

It is with broken hearts and great sorrow we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Sue was born on Nov. 19, 1954, to her loving parents Michael Ramos and Velma Ramos. She spread her wings and took her flight to heaven on June 24, 2016. She is survived by her children Richard Barney, Lisa Lafleur (Ned) Kimberly Looper (Jamie) Tammy Howell (Jeff) and Emil Lafleur; sister Verlin Gonzales (Mike); Michael Ramos Jr.; grandchildren Erika (Kota), Mary, Chris, Ethenna, Ricardo, Brandi, River, Austion, Chance, Marlena, Anna Lee, Jakie and Maddie and Shylynn. She is preceded in death by her husband Kent Barney; son Jerry Keith; her mother and father and sister Annetta. She was born in Vallejo, California. Her family moved to Tooele when she was a young child. When Sue married Kent, they moved to Grantsville and made it their home. Her entire life was dedicated to her family. She spent most of her working years in construction. She started out as a flagger and worked her way up to equipment operator. Her favorite job was driving the water wagon. Her favorite things to do included spending time with her grandchildren, riding her horse Saydee, fishing, crocheting, making jewelry, working in her flower garden and karaoke night with her friends. She loved watching scary movies, cooking for her family and spending time with her sisters and brothers. If I was asked to describe her in one word it would be “strength.” No matter what life threw at her she always would rise to the challenge. When someone would tell her “you can’t do that,” her favorite reply was “you just watch me” and she did. When she was diagnosed with a terminal illness and put on hospice she never let it break her. Even in her darkest hours of endless pain and suffering she showed tremendous strength and courage. We are very thankful for every day we had you in our lives. We are very grateful for every day, and every moment we had her in our lives. She will be missed more than words could ever say. Mom, you are our hero. We will love you always and forever. Rest in peace. Services will be held Friday, July 8 at 11 a.m. at the LDS church located at 1025 W. Utah Avenue, Tooele, Utah 84074.

Obit Edward J. SimonichDear Dad,

I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of your manners. Generally when you make plans with someone, it is polite to inform them you have other intentions. I, for one, had not expected you to pass away on July 4, 2016, at your home and had no plans to write your obituary. Maybe with a little more notice, I would know better what to say.

Dad, I miss you. I miss your stories about how you were born to Mike and Kathryn Long Simonich on Jan. 25, 1957, as the fourth of six boys raised in Tooele, Utah. I miss hearing of the challenge they faced keeping six boys out of trouble. There were casualties — an innocent babysitter tied to a clothes line pole, peers subjected to the wrath of the Broadway Bombers, and a brother or two caught in a failed attempt to tunnel under an irrigation canal. I guess they were successful though, because you graduated from Tooele High School and earned a horticulture degree from Utah State University.

I miss my teacher. Between your time working as the houseplant manager at Engh Floral, propagator at Native Plants, and nearly 30 years as grower and co-owner of Progressive Plants, I don’t know many with as much knowledge or passion for plants as you.

I miss my friend — the one who enjoyed beating me in a tennis match as much as recounting his adventures in horseback riding (or falling off). The one who could claim to hate cats, but would still buy food for the strays every week.

I’ll make you a deal. While you are gone, I’m going to try to forgive you for the fact that I know more about the Beach Boys than anyone my age should, that I still feel shock at discovering John Wayne was not actually a member of our family, and for telling that stupid flying purple pope joke — and no, it did not get any funnier the more you told it — as long as you remember how much I love you.

There are many people here who care for you and will miss you too. Your brothers Pat (Sue), Bill (Cheryl), Mark (Sandy), ex-wife Janet, Tim and Jim (Lori); nephews and nieces Greg, Jeff, Kate, Melissa, Daniel, Jake and Samantha; your incredible friend Julie and all others whose lives you touched.

We will be holding a graveside service at Tooele Cemetery, 361 S. 100 East in Tooele on Saturday, July 9 at 11 a.m. for those who wish to join us as you embark on your next journey. I hope you can be there. Laku Noc, Eddie Basketti. All my love, Lacey.

Obit Linda Lucile Carr Langley 1Today we mourn and honor our beloved Linda Lucile Carr Langley — wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Obit Linda Lucile Carr Langley 2Aged 72, she departed this earth and into the arms of our Heavenly Father at 10:10 p.m. on July 12, 2016. We will miss her loving kindness and sweet gentle spirit. She welcomed all into her heart — friend of friend, neighbor, family. It didn’t matter. All were family to her. We remember her for her love of music, family togetherness, simple pleasures, and living for others. If someone was in need, she was there to help fix you up, dry your tears, and provide the comfort you needed. Linda was born in Lehi, Utah, to Elmer Joseph Carr and Lucile Anderson, the first of two children. She graduated from East High School in 1962, having been involved in the Spanish Club, the Junior Red Cross Club, the Junior Choir her junior year, and the A Capella Choir during her senior year. She served an LDS mission to the Northern States Mission, an area which then covered parts of Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin. Following the return from her mission, around the year 1968, she auditioned and tried out for the Oratorio Society of Utah, of which she was a member for more than 25 years. She was president of the Sacra Dulce choir, an LDS-based community choir when she met Charley. She also participated in ward and community choirs through later life. Linda especially loved singing “The Messiah,” the oratorio by G.F. Handel. She attained a business degree from LDS Business College. After a “lengthy” courtship of about 14 months with Charley C. Langley Jr., she married him in the LDS Salt Lake City, Utah temple and was sealed to him for time and all eternity on Jan. 6, 1978. Charley being a widower, Linda was suddenly mother to five children from previous marriages. Charley and Linda had three additional children together. She lovingly knitted the yours, mine, and ours household into one. In coming years, none of the children knew clearly who belonged to whom originally. This is part of the legacy of love for which we honor her. She also served in various church and community roles such as ward bulletin preparer, choir member, boy scout and cub scout den leaders, and many others. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Charley Langley; sister Kristine (Steven) Green of Centerville, Utah; daughter Lesslie (Curtis) Gibson of Riverdale, Utah; son Charley (Cheryl) Langley of Scottsdale, Arizona; son Bruce (Tara) Langley of Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin; daughter LaVon (Kevin) Fuller of Holladay, Utah; son Spencer (Julie) Petersen; son Ronald (Sierra) Langley of Vernal, Utah; son Benjamin (Teresa) Langley of Tooele, Utah; daughter Lucinda Langley of Ogden, Utah; 15 grandchildren; and many unofficially adopted children entered her heart and home. Funeral services will be held in Vernal, Utah, on Monday, July 18, 2016. The location for the viewing and service will be 235 E. 600 South, Vernal, Utah 84078. The viewing will begin at 10 a.m. with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. A graveside service will be conducted at the St. John Cemetery of Rush Valley, Utah, on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at 11 a.m.
