Obit Burke Lon BeddoesBurke Lon Beddoes passed away peacefully in his home June 28, 2021, exactly two months after the passing of his loving wife, Nancy. Born to Marlene and Shirl Beddoes Nov. 9, 1962, the delivery was difficult on mom and baby; they almost didn’t make it. They stayed with Shirl’s mother, Maida Dispane, until they were well enough to go home. This left a long-lasting impression on Burke; he adored his grandma for his entire life.

Growing up, he had to split his time between two households. He lived in Payson on a small farm during the summers where he grew with his stepbrothers Shane, Greg, and younger brother Jared. He spent the rest of his time in Midvale and graduated from Hill Crest High School, where he also grew up with three sisters Lisa, Teri, and Dana; and step-siblings Jana and Jeff.

His love for collecting things started as a teenager with cars and records. He loved a fast car and great sound systems.

At the young age of 17, he met the love of his life Nancy and quickly became Dad to her daughter Roxie. He moved to Tooele to be with them. They married shortly afterwards and spent 38 years together. He got a job working for WF Engineering where he stayed over 30 years. They enjoyed fishing, watching the Jazz and going to concerts. They used to take long rides to nowhere just looking for adventure.

Burke was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Beddoes; his father; Shirl (Kay) Beddoes, mother-in-law Helen (Lorin) Smith; his beloved nephews Jed Smith, Brayden and Kieran Beddoes; and many adored fur babies.

A viewing will be held at Tate Mortuary, Wednesday, July 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. The graveside service will be at the Tooele Cemetery, July 8 at 11 a.m.

Obit Jay Loren Taylor 21/14/1958 – 7/2/2021

Obit Jay Loren Taylor 1On the afternoon of July 2, Jay Loren Taylor left this earth and is finally free of all the tubes and machines he was tethered to after being diagnosed with lung cancer 12 years ago.

Jay was born Jan. 14, 1958, to Frank L and Vardella Jenks Taylor, and was number five of six children. He spent most of his life in West Jordan, Utah.

Jay had a big heart and even though he didn’t have a lot he was always ready to help, whether it was lending a tool or giving someone a place to stay. The most help he ever gave was when he stepped in to be a dad to three little kids who needed him in their life. These three, Jimmy, Robbie and Tassie, loved him and he looked after them as if his own. He has had hard times in his life, but taking care of these kids were the highlight of his life until his last day on this earth. After they were older and didn’t need his help as much, he moved to Grantsville to be with his dad so he wasn’t alone. After he passed he stayed on with his mother and watched over her.

Jay had many jobs, the last working at Grantsville Irrigation Company with his brother Lynn until he was unable to keep working. His favorite things to do were building things out of wood, go fishing and hunting and going to Wendover with his kids. If you were lucky enough to know him you will have that memory to cherish forever.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by three brothers Martin (Jean), Lynn (Becky), Guy; and two sisters Frankie Smith (Dan) and Dawn Johnson (Dale); and lots of nieces and nephews; also James Tsouras; Robert and Cathy Tsouras and son Dacoda; and Tassie and Dave Morris and their three children RJ, Kayla and Kadance.

A viewing will be held July 8, 2021, at Didericksen Memorial, 87 S. Main St, Grantsville, at 10 a.m., followed by a graveside service at Grantsville Cemetery at 11 a.m.

Obit Douglas P. LawsonDouglas P. Lawson Jr, 82, passed away peacefully in Tooele, Utah, July 8, 2021, after a multi-year battle with dementia. He was born Oct. 8, 1938, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Douglas P. and Edith Lawson. The oldest of four boys, he had a lifelong love of horses, which he nurtured in numerous ways over the course of his life and shared with anyone who also loved them.

He married Ann Mortensen in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, June 29, 1962, and spent the rest of his life nurturing his love for her and their five kids. His family was always his priority, and he spent countless hours supporting his kids: Garit (57), Mindy who preceded him in death, Michael (54), Erin (51) and Marc (47) years old. Adding to the joy of his own kids, his and Ann’s 16 grandkids became sources of great pride and enjoyment as he spent as much as he could attending their sporting and artistic endeavors.

Doug was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many different leadership positions over the course of his life. And while serving as bishop early in his life, his favorite positions were always those where he was teaching the youth, who were always up for his many stories and playful teasing, a hallmark of the way he interacted with those he loved. He proudly served a church mission to England and stayed in touch with many of those he met during this time.

An avid athlete during his life, he loved to play, then coach, many kinds of sports. Another way to interact with and influence the youth, he relished the many opportunities he had to coach not only his kids’ teams, but also many other teams after his own kids aged out. As his kids and grandkids pursued other interests than horses and sports, his own interests grew as well to embrace all activities that his loved ones chose.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main St., Tooele, and a short viewing will be held at the Erda LDS chapel, 323 E. Erda Way, Erda, Utah, Wednesday, July 14 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m.

Doug’s family would like to thank everyone who has reached out during this time, and we want to express our appreciation for all those who were important to Doug’s life.

A livestream of the funeral will be available for those unable to attend in person at the following link: my.gather.app/remember/douglas-lawson.

Obit Karyl Ruth Maynard“Aunt Karyl”

Karyl Maynard was called home during the night of July 10, 2021. She had been ready to reunite with her husband Phil Maynard since his passing in 1995. Karyl was born July 17, 1930, to Kenneth and Ruth Stapher in New Hampton, Iowa. She attended elementary schools in New Hampton and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, before her parents moved to Tooele in 1946. She graduated from Tooele High School with the class of 1949 and began working at the Tooele Army Depot (TAD) in 1950.

Early in her TAD career Karyl met Phil (Millard F.) Maynard Jr. He had been assigned there as he returned from the Korean War as an Army Air Corp equipment operator. Phil was the love of her life and they married April 3, 1954, in Elko, Nevada. She had a variety of positions at TAD, retiring in 1977 as a chauffeur in the motor pool.

Another proud time was when Tooele City Mayor Debbie Wynn named her the Grand Marshall for the 2019 Independence Day Parade.

Karyl and Phil had no children of their own. However, they had many children throughout their lives. Their home and yard were always a safe place for neighborhood children as popsicles or suckers were constant attractions.

Obit Gilbert Eugene OrrGilbert Eugene (Gene or Mr. Orr) Orr, our dad, pops, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away in the early morning hours of Jan. 7, 2021, after a short illness in South Jordan, Utah.

On July 31, 1929, Eugene was born to Lester E. and Nola Park (Gordon) Orr in St. John, Utah.  Eugene was one of eight children. He attended school in Stockton, Tooele Valley. Eugene enlisted in the Army during the Korean Conflict, Nov. 7, 1950, to Oct. 24, 1952. He started his service in the 10th Infantry Division, and with further IQ testing he transferred to serve as a clerk in the Judge Advocate General Office in Korea. Eugene married Carol Osborne in 1954, becoming the proud father of Becky Jean Orr in 1956. Their short marriage ended in divorce. In 1962, Eugene married Zella Sackett of Grantsville, Utah, where they raised her five children and Becky Jean.

Eugene’s work history began as a young boy with his father Lester looking after sheep in the mountains of Utah. His love of the outdoors, work ethic, and essential life values were shaped by his father’s example of care for the sheep and Utah’s public lands. He also worked as a ranch hand in Neola, Utah. He gained employment with the Tooele Army Depot, Western Chemical Center, before his military service; after a short time working at Geneva Steel in Orem, Utah, he returned to Tooele Army Depot from 1955-1987. During his tenure at the Tooele Army Depot he received numerous recognitions for his superior performance, safety, and Special Achievement Commendations from the Department of the Army.

Eugene’s love for his family came from his parents. His mom, a schoolteacher, shaped his early learning and love for reading. His Father, although absent from the home because of his work with the sheep, was another hero to Eugene. He cared for his siblings and spoke of their time and adventures growing up in Stockton, Utah, and the Tooele Valley. Eugene had a great love for dogs, cats, and horses. He took great care to learn how to raise rabbits to supplement his family’s food supplies. In his youth Eugene had many adventures; he hopped a train to Colorado with a friend. When he decided he was too smart for school, he spent some time in reform school, and on the weekend, he would ride bikes between Stockton and Tooele to watch the double features. His hobbies included woodworking and metal detecting until he lost his eyesight. Eugene continued to live on his own in his and Zella’s Grantsville home until 2018, when he moved into the home of his step-son, Byra Sackett, with his cat, Calamity.

Eugene is survived by his step-children Phyllis (Paul) Wright, Byra (Donna) Sackett, and Karol Mark (Barbara) Sackett; his brother Glen Orr of Texas; and sister Lela Mae Strickland; grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Zella; daughter Becky Jean; step-daughters Leslie and Juanita; and three grandchildren; brothers Leo, Gordon, Lester Jr., Dwain, and James; and sister Nola Rae.

We want to thank Harmony Home Health and Hospice for the staff who helped care for dad in his last year.

Eugene’s desire was to be cremated, leaving an opportunity to have a graveside service for family and friends to attend after COVID restrictions lifted. Eugene’s celebration of life will be July 23, 2021, at 10 a.m., at the Grantsville Cemetery, 370 W. Main St., Grantsville, Utah.

Obit Timothy Ryan YadonTimothy Ryan Yadon, 43, was welcomed into the arms of his Heavenly Father July 24, 2021, due to a motorcycle accident in Chula Vista, California. He was born Nov. 3, 1977, in Corvallis, Oregon, the eighth child of Paul Aaron and Patricia Shurts Yadon.

Timothy was known for his sense of humor, adventurous spirit, and his ability to love and include everyone. The outdoors was his playground — you could often find him surfing the sand dunes, diving off cliffs into the sea, or hunting game animals. He had a positive influence on those he came in contact with and he loved unconditionally.

He was beloved by his work family at Henkels and McCoy. His favorite job was being a crane operator and lineman and that’s why he would show up to work everyday with a smile on his face. He recently was ensuring that the boss’ new puppy would love him by taking the time to play fetch with him; it was one of the last things he did on this earth.

Tim married Amber Dee Anderson of Grantsville, Utah, Feb. 8, 1997, they later divorced. Together they raised three strong-willed and beautiful daughters Taysia Lynn (24), Terran Lacey (21), and Taitlyn Laney (15), all of Grantsville. He loved singing and dancing with his girls. He was their hero, best friend and first love! He would cheer them up when they were down and celebrate in their happiness. There was never a dull moment when the four of them were together.

He met his fiancé, Ruth Aquino Moncada, of Tijuana, Mexico, in 2019. She was the woman who brought love back into his life and brought him out of the darkness. Ruth was the one whom he loved for the rest of his life. He couldn’t wait to introduce her to his whole family in October when they were to be wed. He will be missed by their dog Ramsey and cat Claw.

Steve was born May 29, 1977, in Fort Carson, Colorado, to Terrance and Kathleen Smith Roth and passed away July 26, 2021, in Taylorsville, Utah, with his significant other Tuesday Carusso by his side.

He graduated from Tooele High School in 1995. Steve worked for many employers throughout the Tooele, Salt Lake, and Ogden areas since 1992.

He had such a great love for animals especially his two four legged loves Suge and Sarge who have been with Steve through thick and thin most of his life. He enjoyed music, the great outdoors, camping, fishing, and hiking. Our Steve was such a gentle giant. He had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews, often getting down on their level, playing and making them giggle. They enjoyed that just as much as he did and loved him dearly. Steve will be truly missed by his family, significant other Tuesday Carusso, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Terrence Roth; brother Joseph P. Roth; and grandparents Sherden J. Smith, Norman and Vivian Davis Roth.
