Regina E. Moore

Regina E. MooreRegina E. Moore, a woman who spent her entire life sternly mothering all those around her, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her daughters June 29, 2020, due to injuries sustained from a tragic house fire.

Regina was born in Weinheim, Germany, to Elfriede C. Essler and Ludwig A. Busch on June 20, 1957. At a young age Regina migrated to America with the love of her life Joe Jesse Moore. Regina and Joe met through her brother Rainer Busch and enjoyed dancing at Discotheques and spending time with Sandee and John. They moved to America in 1977 when Joe was assigned to Tooele Army Depot after his eight-year tour in Germany. Joe retired in 1978 and they started their business adventures together by owning several auto repair shops, a Texaco gas station, and then opening Moores Auto Shop in 1984 in Lake Point.

So much can be said about Regina’s feisty and eccentric personality. You never had to question where you stood with her and even though she could be abrasive sometimes, genuine unconditional love was always at the root of it. She was generous with her time and money and never passed up an opportunity to help others without even being asked. Regina unofficially fostered many children throughout her life, Mom or Grandma was a term used instead of her name by too many to count. She always made people feel welcome in her home no matter the circumstances and everyone could get a warm meal, a big hug and a lecture anytime they were in need of one.

There are too many facets of Regina’s character to give justice to the exceptional woman that she was. She loved all things shiny, mirrored, sparkly and colorful. Anyone who knew her knows that Elvis Presley had to be one of the first people to greet her on the other side. Few things made her happier than playing Elvis music on an endless loop. She loved animals and had what can only be described as a small zoo at her home, her open-door policy extended past people and included animals of all kinds. Regina was quite easily the most stubborn person in your life, but somehow she managed to perfectly balance her headstrong ways with a fierce, deep love that was felt at the core and could never be questioned. Her most amazing character trait was her perseverance. She overcame any challenge placed before her. She learned to speak English, run a business on her own, and most importantly she was an incredible mother without the guidance of her own mother. Regina was trustworthy, honest, dependable, resourceful, vigilant, resilient, and possessed the strength of her ancestors within. We can all stand to learn from her example of how to love without judgement and have joy in the face of adversity and fight to the end.

Regina is survived by her daughters Winnie, Sandee, and Ellen (Rich); brothers Rainer Busch, Michael Essler; and her grandchildren Latorya, Brandon, Brian, Brianna (Josh), Whitney, Tre, Brylee, Reina, Quinten, Marley, De’Andre, Izzy, Atlas; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe, her son John, and her parents.

Regina’s viewing will be Sunday, July 5, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main St., Tooele, Utah. Due to COVID restrictions the amount of people allowed in the funeral home will be limited, but we will do our best to accommodate everyone wanting to come. Obit Bruce Austin BlackwellApril 23, 2018 – June 18, 2020

Bruce, “the Caboose,” son of Austin Wade Blackwell and Alayne Barbara Blackwell, tragically departed this world June 18, 2020. Bruce leaves behind his father; mother; and siblings, Abigail Barbara (8), Jack Bennet (5), and Randy Carter (5). In addition to his immediate family, Bruce will be missed by his grandparents, great-grandparents, 18 aunts and uncles, and 37 cousins.

Bruce epitomized personality, whether he was stubbornly looking in his parents’ eyes saying “No,” or laughing hysterically in an instant. Bruce’s keen eye for sweets, earned him the title of “Candy Monster.” His unique ability to locate candy long after his parent’s thought all the candy had been disposed of resulted in the family finding him sitting on top of the counter with a sucker in his mouth, on the bench with a tootsie roll, or strolling down the hall with chocolate.

Bruce filled his two-year tenure on earth with love and family. He loved helping his siblings with chores, particularly vacuuming. He loved anything that would roll, including his toy trucks and construction vehicles. With the invigorating energy that only a two-year old can muster he got dirty, ran, jumped, climbed, and rode. Yet, with the sweet gentleness and trust reserved for one so young, untainted by toil and strife, he cared for his “baby.” Then, with cup of “mak” in hand he would crawl into the expecting arms of his mommy and daddy for early morning snuggles, whispering “I love you,” in his best monster whisper. His laugh, his smile, his big brown eyes and fierce love will be missed by all as we struggle to adopt his motto “Live and love big with all your might.” He will always be our baby boy, our Bruce, our Caboose.

Obit Ron HaleDec. 29, 1942 – July 3, 2020 (Age 77)

Ron Hale passed away peacefully in his home July 3, 2020, of natural causes.

Ron graduated from Grantsville High School with the class of 1961. He enjoyed playing sports especially football. He married his high school sweetheart, Carolee Johnson, on April 4, 1962. They were the proud parents of Eric, Andrew, and Heather.

After working many years, he retired to take care of Carolee. She suffered from diabetes and other health conditions. He selflessly took care of her for many years and took her to dialysis treatments for 15 years until her passing in 2018.

He developed a love for the outdoors at a young age while on memorable trips to the West Desert with his grandfather. He passed this love for the outdoors onto his children and nephews. Ron enjoyed fishing in Wyoming, hunting and camping in the West Desert. Carolee gave approval to these trips under one condition: that he would take the family on an annual trip to Disneyland.

After losing one of his companions, Der, the family dog, Carolee told Ron “No more dogs.” Ron told everyone else that she didn’t say about anything “about cats….”

Ron is survived in death by his children Eric (Cholamany) Hale, Andrew Hale, Heather (Mike) Sutton;  grandchildren Zen (Mandie) Hale, Shem Hale, Nia (Blake) Whitehead, Alex (Trent) Kranwinkle, and Meg Sutton; great-grandchildren, Ava Kranwinkle, Gus Hale, Uinta Kranwinkle, and Grey Hale.

Obit Vernon Marion Pankratz 17 Oct. 1939 – 4 July 2020

Vernon (Vern) Marion Pankratz, 80, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon surrounded by family near and far thanks to the blessings of modern medicine and technology. Obit Vernon Marion Pankratz 2He is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Diane Furner Pankratz, whom he married Aug. 16, 1963, in the Salt Lake Temple; 11 children Deonna (Alan) Weight, Sherri (Greg) Summers, Shane (Stephanie), Bryant (Stacey), Danny (Traci), Teena (Dan) White, Peter (Meghan), Justin (Jessica), Craig (Misty), Andrew (Corey), and Spencer;  32 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, with two more great-grandchildren on the way; his brother Dale (Jan) of Lakeport, California; and many other relatives and friends. Though he will be sorely missed by all who knew him, we rejoice in the knowledge that we will meet again.

Born Oct. 7, 1939, in Ignacio, Colorado, to Henry and Ida Pankratz, Vernon descended from a long line of stalwart men and women who loved the Lord, their families, and farming. Throughout his life, he honored this heritage. After graduating high school in 1958, Vernon joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and spent his life in service to the Lord through church callings, temple work, and sharing the gospel with friends and family on both sides of the veil. He accepted every calling extended to him and truly loved those callings that allowed him to serve his fellow ward members whether it was ministering to a household or the entire ward. He served three missions to the Netherlands, one as a young adult and two with his eternal companion, Diane. Much of his free time was spent doing family history work, and we have no doubt that as he passed from this mortal life to the next, he was greeted by thousands of grateful souls.

Vern loved farming and spent most of his professional life managing a welfare farm in Erda for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When he retired, he and his wife opened the Pankratz Pumpkin Patch in Tooele, which he loved not only for the opportunity to continue farming, but also for the opportunity to meet many wonderful individuals in the community.

As the father, grandfather, and great-grandfather (opa) to many, Vernon’s influence will be felt for generations to come. A man of unwavering faith and integrity, he taught by example and loved unconditionally. His legacy of faith, love, and willingness to work hard will continue to bless the lives of all his family present and future.

Obit Danny Keith HooleyDanny Keith Hooley, age 46, left his family, friends and all that he loved, behind Friday, July 3, 2020. He was born June 25, 1974, in American Fork, Utah, to Randy and Debra June Wingard Hooley.

Outside of a few teenage years in Florida and Georgia, Danny lived his life in Utah. He loved his family, his four-wheelers, his trailer and definitely his truck. He was so proud when he bought his first home two months ago. He was told often these last few years that he was a poster child for what a person could accomplish. How is it possible to say in this brief space what he meant to so many, and what an inspiring story he wrote for himself. To his family, he was the glue that united us all. To his friends and co-workers at Precision Building Systems he was tough, funny, goofy at times, but got the work done as the shift supervisor. He had a great work ethic that he learned from his father. To all his many friends, Danny was known to be fun loving, adventurous, and most of all kindhearted.

Danny is survived by his father Randy Hooley; stepmother Margie Hooley, Tooele, Utah; loving siblings Wendy (Joe) Labelle, Lewiston, Idaho; Dana (Carl) Stratton, Tooele; Kimberly (Alfredo) Delgado, Las Vegas, Nevada; Matthew Reese, Tooele; Rachael (Richard) Manning, American Fork, Utah; and Tom Hooley, Tooele; so many nieces and nephews and he would be mad if we did not name them because he adored every one of them and they in turn loved him endlessly: Ashley Labelle Healey (Chris), Shaylynn Labelle, Anthony Stratton, Alyssa Stratton, Christian, Jordan, and Raegan Manning, Gage Reese, Monica, Rachel and Mackenzie Delgado, Cade, and Austyn Hooley; many loving cousins, aunts and uncles; special cousin Kevin Hooley who was like another brother. Danny loved Kevin’s family: Dakota, McKay, Shelby and little Rowyn, who brought so much joy to his life.

Thank you to all at Precision Building Systems for all the friendship, support, and love for Danny. So many special people in his life, you all know who you are and how he touched your lives. Thank you to all. Ride on, Dan the Man, till we meet again.

A visitation will be held Monday, July 13, 2020, at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main St., from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. A celebration of life will follow at 6 p.m.

Judi Joy Behling Spiker

Obit Judi Joy Behling SpikerJudi Joy Behling Spiker was born to Robert A. and Joy J. Behling on March 30, 1949, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Judi passed away July 8, 2020, in her home in Tooele, Utah, surrounded by her loving husband, daughter and son-in-law. She was the third of eight happy children and grew up in Mutton Hollow in Kaysville, Utah.

She attended Davis High School and Stevens-Henager College before starting her career as an assistant to the CFO of the Great Salt Lake Chemical Company. On Valentine’s Day, 1971, she met Boyd Spiker and from that point on they were always together, making homes in Utah, Oregon, Missouri, and Indiana, where they met many dear life-long friends. They had two children, Brian and Darci, along with Boyd’s two children, Shauna, and Andy, all of whom benefitted greatly from her extreme patience, youthful spirit, kind, gentle nature, and renaissance ways. She worked as an administrative assistant and had her own, small drafting business, which allowed her to take jobs only when she wanted, though primarily, she was a wonderfully clever homemaker and the most magical mother a child could have. She fed her family from her own garden, canning food and making wonderful treats like jams, pies, salsas, and ketchups to enjoy throughout the year. She was the most generous hostess, always taking such pleasure in planning menus to suit everyone on her list and naturally creating atmospheres that were special and fun.  She was an extraordinary seamstress, making patterns from scratch and creating prize-winning garments. She took the time to teach her children how to find true joy in simple things in life, the most important gift that one can give and one they appreciate every day. She was a quiet person whose warm, nurturing light shone on those close to her. She made her family and friends know, without a doubt, that she loved them. She was truly an angel on Earth.

Judi loved it when she and Boyd reached retirement and was most happy spending that time in her garden, learning to paint, golfing with Boyd and her friends, fishing in Utah’s beautiful mountain lakes and streams and traveling to see her family. She and Boyd traveled to Europe and have been in almost every state in the U.S. In addition to their sweet home in Tooele, they had a winter home in El Centro, California, where they golfed, danced, and enjoyed many activities with their very dear friends.

Judi was preceded in death by her father Robert A. Behling, younger brother Ronald B. Behling, stepson Andrew D. Spiker, and her loyal cocker spaniel Taffy. She is survived by her husband Boyd D. Spiker; daughter Darci J. Spiker (John Backschies) of Calabasas, California; son Brian (Monica) Spiker; along with grandchildren, Fiona, Finn, of Vista, California, Shauna Marie (Charlie) Muller of Madison, Alabama, her mother Joy Behling of Salem, Oregon, brothers Conway Behling of Falls City, Oregon, Craig Behling of Salem, Oragan, Cory Behling of Dallas, Oregan; sisters Marilyn Anderson of Salem, Oregon, Pam Grove, of Salem, Oregon, Wendy Cerdena of Woodland, Washington.

The family will hold a celebration of Judi’s wonderful life Saturday, July 18, 2020, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the family home in Tooele, Utah. We ask that people who drop by bring masks and be aware of social distancing. We will be holding the event outside to enjoy the beautiful gardens that Judi created and nurtured.

Obit Dale Rydalch EricsonOur sweet dad, Dale Rydalch Ericson, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home Tuesday, July 14, 2020. He was 83.

He was born April 24, 1937, the oldest son of John William and Marjorie Rydalch Ericson. He attended Tooele Central School and graduated from Tooele High School in 1955. He then went on to Trade Tech where he became an accomplished and talented welder.

In his younger years, he worked on the family farm helping his grandpa with the chickens and occasionally sneaking into the Razzle Dazzle to see if there were any quarters in the change return of the jukebox.

After college, he was a member of the Utah National Guard. He also worked for numerous companies as a welder but spent the bulk of his career at the Anaconda Mine and Tooele Army Depot. He finished his career working for Tooele County in the Roads Department.

Dad was a man of his word. His integrity and caring ways were always an example for us to live by. His sense of humor and sly smile could always make you laugh and put you in a good mood. Dad was very talented mastering the guitar and mandolin. He was also a great artist.

He and Mom loved to go camping and share their adventures with family and friends. In his “spare” time he built onto the house, rode his horse, worked on the farm and tried to accomplish the never-ending honey-do list from Mom. There wasn’t a Louis L’Amour book he hadn’t read.

In his latest years he loved racing around the yard on his lawnmower, rocking on the porch, telling stories, watching his old western shows, and always joking.

He met his sweetheart Lois at Al’s Drive Inn Cafe and April 24, 1959, on his 22nd birthday they were married. This marriage lasted 58 years to the day when Mom passed away on April 24, 2017. He and Mom purchased the family farm and built their home where they lived together the remainder of their lives.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Marjorie Ericson, two brothers Clyde Dean and William Judd, and one granddaughter Desiree. He is survived by daughter Kim Willoughby; son Monty Ericson (Terra) and son Clint Ericson (Scott); four grandchildren Mandy, Russell, Jeremy and Darci; and four great-grandchildren Kaden, Kyler, Emberly and Liam.

Obit Rodney Frank Grgich 1Rodney Frank Grgich stepped peacefully across the veil Saturday, July 18, 2020, at Willow Springs Rocky Mountain Care Center in Tooele, Utah, due to complications of diabetes. He was 77 years old. Rodney was born August 12, 1942, to Frank and Goldie Grgich in Tooele, Utah.

Obit Rodney Frank Grgich 2He graduated from Tooele High School and shortly after was inducted into the Army during the Vietnam War. During his service he was trained as a medic. Once his tour was over, he met and married Sharon Williams in Elko, Nevada. They had five children together and later divorced. He met and married Constance Bryan in Tooele, Utah, and as his health deteriorated the marriage was amicably ended.

Rodney worked at the Tooele Army Depot for most of his career retiring as a sergeant. While there, he earned several awards for safe driving and marksmanship with a M16 rifle. He would often take his children shooting and was known for driving either exactly at the speed limit or a few miles under, much to the dismay of his children and grandchildren. He served with the Grantsville Soil Conservation District and received an award for outstanding accomplishments in resource conservation. Of all the things he did in his life, farming was his passion. It was obvious to anyone who knew him that he worked so that he could farm. He raised alfalfa, barley, potatoes, and Charolais cows. One of his favorite things was looking over the fields when the alfalfa was in bloom and watching the sunsets across the fields.

Rodney loved Dr. Pepper, old westerns, Elvis, and was a quiet and generous person who found great joy in providing acts of kindness and service to those in need. He was loved by his family and will be greatly missed.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is survived by his children Tom (Tami) Grgich, Brenda (Troy) Gowans, Tricia (Mark) Houghton, Rodney Jr. (Jodi) Grgich, Brittney (Jason) Lillion; his brother Jerry (Sherry) Grgich; 16 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Dan, Reed, Ellis, and Marlin.

Service will be held Saturday, July 25, 2020, at Tate Mortuary. The viewing to be held from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m., followed by a graveside service at noon at the Tooele City Cemetery where he will be interred. The family wishes to give a heartfelt thanks to all the aides, nurses, doctors, and hospice care workers at Willow Springs Rocky Mountain Care Center who cared for Rodney with such loving and compassionate care.

Obit Paula Mantes Argus7/10/1934 – 7/19/2020

Paula was born in Tooele, Utah, to her beloved parents Helen and Ernest Mantes. She was a high school English teacher for thirty years, encouraging and inspiring her students to become true learners, joyful readers, and open-minded thinkers. She was a beloved leader in the Order of the Eastern Star in her local Tooele Valley Chapter, statewide in Utah, and internationally as a General Grand Chapter Trustee. She traveled all over the world with life-long colleagues and friends. She tinkled the ivories with effortless elan. She speechified with oratorial vigor and a few dirty jokes. She was a fabulous dancer; cutting the rug with a beautiful combination of exuberance and elegance. She played a pretty good hand of bridge. Her shrimp dip was renowned. She cherished her friends and was fiercely cherished by them in return.

She died peacefully in her sleep and is survived by her brother George and his wife Mary Ann Mantes, her daughters Cathy Argus and Camille Argus, and son-in-law Andrew Posey,  granddaughter Hallie Hemingway and her husband Joey Schultz and their children Elliot and Lincoln, grandson Dave King, nephew Ernie Mantes, niece Stacey Kouris, her husband Mark Kouris, and grandnieces Gabrielle and Zoe.

Obit David KroffDavid Kroff of Tooele, Utah, passed away July 25, 2020, from complications of Parkinson’s disease.

Dave was born June 12, 1940, in the Clegg family house in Erda, Utah, to Edith Mae Clegg Kroff and Eugene Kroff. He was the second oldest of eight children. As a child he spent time working on the family farm in Erda and helped his father and siblings build their home in Tooele. He attended Tooele High School where he excelled in the backstroke and met the love of his life Michele Colby. Dave went on to attend the University of Utah where after a short break from the military and raising a family he received his bachelor’s degree in business. Dave married his love Michele Colby on Nov. 1, 1963, in Fort Carson, Colorado, where he was serving in the military. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1971. Together they settled in Tooele and raised five amazing kids.

Dave worked for Sperry and later Tooele Army Depot where he retired as a project analyst. There were always new business adventures with his brothers and sister, and he enjoyed being a business owner. Dave loved his time as bishop of the 23rd and 3rd Wards where his talents to connect with youth, serve others, and council with love were well used. Dave retired from the Tooele Volunteer Fire Department with 40 years of service. Later in life he enjoyed his trips with Mom to Hawaii and his yearly trips to the Tetons with his siblings.

He was a loving father who could fix anything, make anything out of PVC pipe, make a slightly dangerous go cart, and teach us all how to shoot a gun. His tender letters that were left on our pillows assured us that he loved us and understood our struggles and would always be there to support us. As a grandfather and great-grandfather, he was the ultimate tease and constant source of love. He will be greatly missed!

David was proceeded in death by his loving parents, Edith Mae Clegg Kroff and Eugene Kroff, his loving wife Michele Colby Kroff, and son Allen Michael Kroff. He is survived by daughter- in-law Anaise (Allen Michael) Kroff, daughter Kimberlee (Paul) Choate, son Colby Dean Kroff, daughter Angela Kroff, daughter Elizabeth (Eric) Wagner; grandchildren Alita Alex, Angela Kroff, Aaron Kroff, Emilee Choate, Jackson Choate, Sam Choate, Ethan Wagner, Archer Wagner, Ryder Wagner; great-grand-daughter Leina-Marie Alex; brothers Robert (Carol) Kroff, Richard (Julie) Kroff, Paul (Denise) Kroff, Joel (Mariam) Kroff; sister Kathy (Howard) Fait; Jerry (Roxanne) Kroff.
