John Thomas Reeder, 91, passed away Feb. 25, 2017, from causes incident to age. He was born Jan. 3, 1926, to John Thomas Reeder and Bessie Cole in Treasureton, Idaho. He enjoyed his childhood on the family ranch in Treasureton. He married Leora Reeder of North Logan, Utah, Oct. 3, 1945, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They spent several years raising their children in Dugway, Utah, first in the trailer park and then moving to the housing area. They bought a home in Tooele and lived there 43 years. He spent his last years living at Apple Village Assisted Living Center in Layton, Utah. John spent his childhood on the Reeder ranch and his teens helping the local sheep ranchers. He joined the Army in 1944 and was proud to serve in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy, where he was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He retired from Dugway after 31 years working in security, I.D. and registration and vehicle maintenance. He enjoyed running into friends he had made there. He got enjoyment watching the hummingbirds outside the window, doing word search books, raising his chickens and peacocks on his little farm, tinkering on vehicles, jerry-rigging everything and fixing things half-assed. He is survived by children: Cheryl (Eugene) Carbine, Uintah, Utah; Thomas (Wendy), Sandy; Sharlene (Robert) Jorgensen, Leavenworth, Kansas; Marsha (Dennis) Murray, Tooele; and Keven, Callao, Utah. He is also survived by siblings Erma Walker of Delta, Utah; Francis Butler of Idaho Falls; Alice Johnson of Treasureton, Idaho; Neale (Marie) Reeder of Malad, Idaho; Nedra Reeder of Bountiful, Utah; Vernon (Lorna) Reeder of Spanish Fork, Utah; a sister-in-law Naretta Reeder of Preston, Idaho; 18 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leora; parents; his brother George and sister Violet Weeks; brothers-in-law Lealand Weeks, Irvin Butler, Roger Walker and Cliff Johnson; three half-sisters, Vera Eliza, Jane Ambrosia (Amber) and Maggie Ruth; and two special grandsons Wayne Thomas Reeder and Mark Thomas Reeder. Viewing at Tate Mortuary 110 S. Main, Tooele, Friday, March 3, 2017, 6-8 p.m. and graveside service and interment of his choice in the Wellsville, Utah, Cemetery on Saturday, March 4 at 1 p.m.
