Family and friends of Shirley R. Salahuddin are devastated at her sudden passing on May 15, 2016, in Phoenix, Arizona. She was assisting her daughter Fredi, whose husband passed away two days prior. Shirley was born April 17, 1944, to Fred and Ida Johnson in Lexington, Kentucky. She graduated from Dunbar High School in 1962. While attending college at Kentucky State, Shirley met Kenneth Salahuddin Sr. and they were married in August 1966. Shirley then began teaching in Cleveland, Ohio. Passing through Utah en route to California, circumstances led them to Stansbury Park in 1978. Shirley was busy raising five children when she began working for the Tooele County School District in 1987 where she taught for 22 years. She was honored as District Teacher of the Year in 2002. She loved teaching, reading, learning, traveling, and participating in many activities with her children and grandchildren. “Miss Shirley” was beloved of many, many students in her classes. She was preceded in death by parents, a brother, a child and a son-in-law. She is survived by husband, Kenneth Sr.; children Kenneth Jr., Hollis Wright, Humrei Thompson, Fredi Pool and Aaron; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Lorene; and nephew, Leslie.
