Our beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, and friend, Janet Marjorie Beck Huggins, returned to her Father in Heaven on Jan. 27, 2024, surrounded by her adoring family here on earth and on the other side of the veil. The veil was very thin that day, which gives her family great peace.
Janet was born June 25, 1945, in Whittier, California, to Marjorie Cumpston Beck and James Crawford Beck. She was the third daughter with two younger sisters and a younger brother. She tells of many fun memories she had growing up in Southern California. She definitely had a golden childhood.
Janet married Don Buis in 1963 and to that union came her first daughter, Rebecca Claire. That marriage later ended. Then Rachel Janelle joined her little family. In 1973, Janet met Clarence Hubert Huggins, Jr., “Bud”: they married May 3, 1975. To that union brought Clarence Hubert Huggins III “Buddy,” and Andrew Patrick Huggins. Janet and Bud moved from California to Missouri in 1979, which brought many adventures for the family. They then moved to Utah in 1987.
Janet loved music and instilled that love in her children. She played the piano beautifully and we have many fond memories of her playing on the weekends when she had a free minute. She was also talented in sewing and crocheting. She sewed clothes for us while we were growing up and continued to sew for grandchildren for many years. She loved to bake and made sure that every birthday had a birthday cake made from scratch. She loved jigsaw puzzles, board games and playing cards. She also loved to read and always had a book handy.
Janet was very sweet, kind, and giving. She loved Heavenly Father and Jesus and was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The family was baptized on Dec. 24, 1980, while they lived in Springfield, Missouri. She served in many areas in her wards: Primary presidency, teacher and pianist, Young Women, Relief Society teacher, Chorister, and Missionary Prep teacher. She sure loved all her sweet primary kids whom she taught over the years.
Janet worked many jobs throughout her life: secretary, home day care, and Certified Nurse’s Aide amongst them. Her favorite job was working for Deseret Mutual Benefits Administrators which she worked for from 1987 to 2013. She made many lifelong friends at DMBA. She loved sending out cards to family and friends for birthdays and holidays. She never forgot anyone. She was very active in her high school, California High School in Whittier, California: she was a member of The Wahalians club in high school, and to this day has stayed in close touch with each of those dear friends.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents James and Marjorie Beck; dear husband Clarence Jr.; her son Clarence III; grandson Marc Daniel Huggins Southam; and brother James Charles Beck. Janet is survived by her daughters Rebecca Huggins (Allen Roberts) and grandchildren Michael (Vanessa), Michelle, and Mitchell; daughter Rachel Vidrine and grandchildren Jacob (Liz), Joshua, Sarah, Katie (Jakob Johnson), Hannah, and Caleb; son Andrew Huggins; and six great-grandchildren whom she adored. Janet was always ready to hold a baby! Janet leaves behind her sweet sisters, Nancy St. Onge, Cathy Palm, Ginny Brewer (Glen), and Robin Higgins.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the medical personnel that attended to their beloved mom and grandma after the tragic motor vehicle collision that ultimately took her life. We also wish to thank the Lake Point community and her very dear friends for taking such good care of our mom these last few years and being such a wonderful support.
A viewing will be held Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, at the Lake Point Chapel, 1366 Canyon Rd., from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. The funeral service follows at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Lake Point Cemetery.
