Ronald John “Bear” Baetz, born Jan. 16, 1942, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, departed Sept. 11, 2023, leaving a radiant legacy behind. As a charismatic and dedicated member of the Tooele, Utah, community, Ronald’s impact was felt far and wide. His 40-year service as a construction foreman at Christensen and Griffith Construction Company mirrored his personal commitment to hard work and excellence. The same hands that could fix or build anything were also quick to support and guide those around him.
Ronald, a smart and supportive father, took great pride in his family, particularly his daughters. His love was ever-present, and his support unwavering. He was a man of many talents, who enjoyed the scouting program, teaching young men life skills, and participating in the annual 4th of July breakfast cookout. He also took pride in his service to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served as Bishop, a young men’s leader, and various other roles. In the words of Mosiah 2:17, “when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God,” and Ronald lived this verse every day.
He is survived by his daughters Amy (Shaun) Gladden and Ella (Brendan) Moore, his ten grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Baetz, his parents Charles Baetz and Annie Jablonski, his daughter Rhonda (Chris – deceased) VonNiederhauser, and his grandson Matthew Gladden.
A visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 25, 2023, at 10 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1025 W. Utah Ave., Tooele, Utah, followed by a funeral service at the same location at 11 a.m.
We invite you to share your fond memories and photos of Ronald on his memorial page. In doing so, we can preserve and honor the life of a man who was truly dedicated to his work, his faith, and his family.
