Mervin Kay Anderson unexpectedly passed away at his home at age 79, March 2, 2023. He was the seventh child of eight children born to Lester “Mozart” and Nora Gibson Anderson. He was born Dec. 7, 1943, in Tooele, Utah. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Kay married Patsy Jean Hunt Oct. 6, 1967. They later had their marriage solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity Feb. 22, 2001. He was blessed with three sons, 12 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, and he loved them all dearly. He was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. We will miss him and cherish all of the memories and good times we had with him.
Kay was very enterprising. He owned and operated several businesses: heavy equipment and topsoil, sheet rock and mudding, painting houses, realtor, movie theatre, ostriches, and horse racing.
Anyone who knew Kay knew of his love for rodeo. He was a member of the western states Rocky Mountain Rodeo Association where he regularly competed. His main events were bareback bronc riding and steer-wrestling. He also tried out the bulls and saddle bronc riding. Kay will always be remembered for his love of rodeos and horses.
He loved the outdoors, spending time with his family and friends breaking horses, camping, hunting, fishing, and rodeo. These traits and love he passed down to his sons, grandsons, granddaughters and great-grandchildren. His big hugs, sense of humor, friendly gift of gab (and sometimes, not so friendly), along with the many memories will live on in our hearts forever and ever.
Kay is survived by his wife of 55 years Patsy Hunt Anderson; children Shawn (Collette) Anderson, Lonny (Michelle) Anderson, Les (Kelly) Anderson; sister Sharon (Bob) Owens; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild on the way.
He was greeted in heaven by his parents Mose and Nora; brothers Bob, Harold, Les and Chuck; sisters Ida and Gaye; and granddaughter Cassidy is greeting him in Heaven too.
