Shirley G. Price McCarty left this life April 27, 2022, the 61st anniversary of her momma’s passing. Shirley was born the youngest of 12 children June 3, 1936, to Agnes Cracraft and Evan James Griffiths.
Following her graduation from Tooele High School in 1954, Shirley worked many years at Tooele Valley Hospital. She was a member of the L.D.S. church, Past President of Tooele Eagle’s Auxiliary, and a member of the Eastern Star. Shirley was also a member of Volunteers of America and was a part of the Foster Grandparents Association at Northlake Elementary in the kindergarten classrooms. She was known as “Mrs. Mac” to the students.
Shirley loved golfing, crocheting, traveling, oil painting, and her piano. She was always looking for a new recipe and loved cooking for her family. Her sweet pickles were delicious. She will be remembered for her many beautiful hand-crocheted dresses for new little baby girls.
Some of her fondest memories included singing with her friends in high school; Tooele High School reunions were such a joy to her. She loved her friends and often said “You gotta be a friend, to have a friend.”
She is survived by her loving children Melissa (Mark) Merseth, Kent Price (Kristine), Marcie Hibler-Stevenson, Jill (Doug) Lukes, Amy (Kris) Andrews, and Donna (Dennis) Swim; her many beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister Barbra Crocker (Helena, Montana); and her many dear nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers, two sisters, and her precious grandson Christopher Ryan Welch.
Funeral service will be held at Tate Mortuary Thursday, May 5, 2022. The viewing will be held from 10 to 11:45 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 12 p.m. Graveside service will be held immediately following at Tooele City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Shirley’s wishes were that you please consider a donation to the Children’s Justice Center.
“For what it is to die, but to stand in the presence of HIM, and be with those we love.”
