Thomas “Von” August VonHatten, 76, of Tooele passed away Sept. 12, 2021. He was in the place he loved the most, the mountains. Setting up camp for the elk hunt.
He was born Sept. 4, 1945, in Breese, Illinois, to Victor and Agnes VonHatten. He had eight sisters and two brothers. He married Pam Robinson on Sept. 17, 1966, and enjoyed 33 wonderful years with her until her passing. They had three children Alan (Kathleen) VonHatten, four grandchildren; Scott (LuAnn) VonHatten, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and Becky (Steve, deceased) Huffman. Tom is survived by one brother and seven sisters in Illinois. After Pam’s passing, he met Kathy Chambers in 2001, whom he shared his life with for the past 20 years along with his stepdaughter Kyra.
He came to Utah in 1963 for his military service for the Army. After the Army he worked at the Tooele Army Depot, where he retired after 40 plus years of service. Tom loved hunting, fishing, and bowling and when he wasn’t doing one of those things he was at “The Lot” ready to help anyone and everyone. All you had to do was call and he would he there with whatever you needed — tools, trucks, trailers, and a strong hard-working hand. Tom was the hardest working man you would ever meet. He never stopped or gave up on any job. His willingness to give and dedication to work is a legacy that lives in his children and grandchildren. His love and gentle heart will be greatly missed by all.
Services will be held at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main St., Tooele, Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, at 1 p.m. Viewing for family and friend’s prior at 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Interment will be held at Tooele City Cemetery following the service.
