Annie Grace Crook Redden Barker, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 at the Southern Utah Veteran’s Home in Ivins, Utah, on Saturday, May 23, 2015. Annie was born May 8, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ernest and Grace Harenberg Crook. She is survived by two daughters, Karen (Garry) Jensen, Glenwood, Utah, and Peggy (Joe Pat) Hutcherson, Frankfort, Kentucky; and one brother, Ernest R. Crook, San Luis Obispo, California. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Martina Ann Redden; a son, James E. Redden; brothers, Edward, Bart, and Preston Crook; ex-husband, James B. Redden; and her second husband and best friend, Jack T. Barker. Annie was a long-time resident of Tooele County, Utah, graduating from Tooele High School in 1944. She joined the Navy that same year and was a veteran of World War II. She met and married James B. Redden in November 1945 while stationed at Long Beach Naval Hospital in California. Annie and James finally settled in Tooele County, Utah, where they raised their family, farmed and worked at Dugway Proving Grounds. Annie reenlisted in the Naval Reserve in 1968 for eight years and completed the last 12 of her 20 years with the Utah National Guard. Annie and James divorced in the early ’80s. She retired in 1986 and married Jack T. Barker and they relocated to Hurricane, Utah, where they lived a wonderful, full, retired life until his death in 2001. Annie was a go-getter, participating in the Huntsman Senior Olympic Games for 18 years, getting a lifetime service award and serving as an ambassador for the Games; volunteering at the Hurricane Senior Citizens Center; and restoring and showing her vintage 1933 Model B pickup. Declining health brought Annie to live with her daughter, Karen, in Glenwood, Utah, and finally to the Southern Utah Veterans Home in Ivins. Journey of Hope Hospice and the staff of the Veterans Home were wonderful caregivers for Annie and the family is very grateful for their kind and considerate care.
