Obit Penny SimmonsPenny Simmons passed away Aug. 14, 2020, in Tooele, Utah. Born Lillian Evelyn Simmons in Brockton, Massachusetts, she was known as Penny from day one. Penny moved to Arizona with her family in the late 1940s and attended school in Tucson, Tombstone and Las Vegas. She quickly realized she was a desert rat at heart and loved spending time in Madera Canyon, Oak Creek and Bear Canyon in the great outdoors of Arizona. She also loved all the great Mexican food available on practically every corner of Tucson. She returned to the East Coast in the 1990s, but eventually found her way back West, settling in Tooele and collecting a group of dedicated friends along the way. Those relationships meant the world to Penny and she often talked of all the special people in her life. After retirement from the City of Tooele, she enjoyed her ladies book club, baking, and was renowned for her lemon bars, for her friends and long talks with neighbors. She treated everyone with dignity, listened with empathy and patience and always had a high five for a job well done.

Penny is survived by her brother Jack Simmons (Gaylon); sister Polly Miller (Neil); daughters Mary Lynn Greenhow (Mykl Wells), Susan Greenhow (Frank Denier); and beloved grandsons Xavier and Xander; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Because of COVID-19 concerns no memorial service will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Tooele Children’s Justice Center, a cause near and dear to Penny’s heart. Checks can be sent to Friends of the CJC at 36 S. 100 East, Tooele, Utah 84074 or Venmo @childrens-justicecenter.
