Fay Smith, age 95, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, at the Rocky Mountain Care Center, in Tooele, Utah.
Fay was born in Tooele, Utah, on Sept. 2, 1923, to Clyde Ephriam and Hattie White Smith.
Fay worked for many years in local business establishments starting with the Tooele Drug Store located on the north corner of Main and Vine streets. When that store was sold the new owner moved to a new location across the street on the south corner of Main and Vine. Both of these stores had lunch counters. Fay was well known for taking care of the “regulars” who visited the lunch counters in those stores. Later, when different businesses bought these locations, Fay was employed at Caldwell Drug, located on North Main St., and was owned and operated by Bill and Maurine Bickmore.
After several years at Caldwell Drug, Fay took a position as a dispatcher at Green Top Cab Co., owned and operated by the Gillette family. She was employed at Green Top Cab until she retired.
The Smith home, located at 309 S. 100 East, in Tooele, was located on what was referred to as “Cemetery Hill.” In the wintertime, most of the Tooele youth used this hill for sleigh riding. It was very common for some of us relatives to use the Smith home as a warming place, after several passes down the hill.
Fay is survived by several cousins and other extended relatives.
A graveside service was held on Monday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m., at the Tooele City Cemetery in Tooele, Utah.
